The major factor is personal interest. Another factor is the acceptance of the people who speak the language. Yes, you can't live in Nigeria for a year without developing an interest to learn the language people speak where you reside. The love people would show you will technically push you.

I think the problem about these youngsters is that they are speaking of their lived experiences and things that some of us South Africans do not want to admit. I'm in my 30's and shocked at the vast difference between us and the South African Gen-Zee's. Perhaps depending on where you grew up, the general climate was respect and being cordial. You can't do that with many of these kids now, okare it bothers them to acknowledge that not everyone is a peer. And it is really funny to witness the ignorance of some South Africans hoarding iup on artificial colonial borders like African countries sprung up the way they look now. If only you knew how we looked before they cut us up only to stitch us up in all the wrong places. Many of you are despising your own brothers and sisters, yet many speak nothing of European foreigners who literally own this country. But anyway, ba tla re we talk too much. Just by the way, the Western belt of Africa holds royalty. Before artificial countries, there was Negroland. But then again, our amazing education system can never teach you history. This is a beautifully done video. These youngster's parents make me think of my own parent, even now there's things I wouldn't dare say or do because of my upbringing. Unfortunately now we have in the majority, a buddy-system parenting.

Ah, listen, our democracy has made us comfortable. It is not a bad thing at all, but the downside is that majority of us are not well-travelled. Even worse, there's those who grew up in one village, schooled there, high-schooled in the next village, went to varsity in the same district or province, and married a local girl. So they were raised in South Africa, but they still can't speak or understand any of our local languages? Can somebody make that make sense to me?
Because if it was a South African raised in Nigeria, I'm very sure that he or she would've been fluent in at least one Nigerian language.
The major factor is personal interest. Another factor is the acceptance of the people who speak the language. Yes, you can't live in Nigeria for a year without developing an interest to learn the language people speak where you reside. The love people would show you will technically push you.
Depends where they stay, suburbs don't teach you local languages. At school in the suburbs, the kids speak English mostly....so it happens even with South African kids.
@@siphosipho7333 they do teach local languages, but not as home languages... Probably as first or second additional languages.

He hit me with a "what meat tray should I bring" and I'm so dumbfounded like whaaaa? And he says "yeah, when invited to a party you bring meat and drinks", and I'm like if you're gonna basically invite me to a coal-fire like that then don't bother. If you're gonna have a party or get-together, YOU MUST CATER FOR ALL YOUR GUESTS!!!!! Imagine when Nigerians then achieve more success, they would be generally attributed to drug and scam. I say this based on the recent crime statistics revelation of SA.
Very insightful
Education is Nigeria is obviously better. How? the end product. Nigerians all over the world are very successful in academics and are among the best in the world, breaking records.
like for instance, my 8 yrs old daughter does 18 subject in basic 4 and she has been top of the class ever since.
Imagine her going out of Nigeria to study and even studying like 4 or 5 or 6 subjects, she will destroy the class and smash all record. the power of 9ija

We don't glorify English in South African
Most of ladies their experience with south African is about suburb areas.
What's the issue with that 😏
I think the problem about these youngsters is that they are speaking of their lived experiences and things that some of us South Africans do not want to admit.
