All laptops should have the largest removable battery possible that runs from one side of the laptop to the other.

Hi. I noticed that G5 comes with DTS:X. When i first bought my Acer Nitro 5 it also had poor sound quality. Then after a month i found out that culprit for a bad sound was DTS:X Ultra settings. Just open DTS:X Ultra go to Custom Audio and there turn on Volume Smoothing. To me that was night and day difference. I also put Treble Enhance on 70, Bass Boost on 45 and Dialog Clarity on 20 and also used Traditional Spatial Model. Hope it works because i'm planing to buy that laptop soon, but thank God here in EU comes with 2x8 sticks of ram.

@@markoistuk9458 Thank you for your audio solution. I am thinking about buying an Acer nitro laptop and want to ask you a question. Do you think it is possible to swap over the original battery to one with a larger capacity from the same manufacturer if the bay that normally has an SSD is left empty so that there is enough room for the longer battery ?

I picked this up for sale from Amazon Black Friday sale for $749, I also bought the additional Crucial 8gb DDR4 3200MHz stick of RAM upgrade for $18 & a 1 TB Crucial P3 NVMe for $49 for a total of $816. I also did a thermal paste upgrade & also used a laptop fan stand, with these upgrades which all ended up still costing less than the regular price of this laptop made this a very capable laptop. All of the upgrades were easy & took less than 15 minutes to complete.

@@albertbokor6643 It wasn't hard, the laptop came apart pretty straight forward. I used 91% isopropyl alcohol with a microfiber cloth to remove the old paste, then replaced it with Thermal Grizzly paste. Reassembly was just the reverse of how it was taken apart. The whole process took only a few minutes but was able to see an improvement on the temps when running benchmarks.

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago. Key things were:
Build actually feels quite sturdy and doesn't feel like a budget laptop. The power brick is also quite slim so the whole thing is very light and easy to carry around. The keyboard definitely isn't as flimsy as depicted, it doesn't just detach and requires a lot of force to flex. Definitely agree with the speakers - completely unusable. For the same price there's definitely no reason to go for 4050 or last gen 3060, when you can just stick an extra 8GB ram in it for $20 to achieve similar performance to the other 4060s that cost $100+ more. Ultimately you get what you pay for - G5 is good value for budget, but sits at that lower tier of 4060s.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  ปีที่แล้ว +51

Perhaps I wasn't clear in the demo, I wasn't showing it "just coming off" on its own. I went out of my way to pry the keyboard off. I'm just outlining the reason that it is mushy is because it CAN come off, not that it will randomly come off. Most other laptops don't have that as an option, so the keys feel more sturdy.

in my country laptops are VERY expensive, i bought this on sale for 1000 euros. but it had 16gb ram dual channel, 4060 and 1tb ssd (and its 17.3 inch) and i am VERY happy with it. it is amazing, runs all games i play at very high/ultra settings without a single issue. it can be loud but i dont mind that part as that and sound is my only issue(sound could be much louder & better, but besides that its perfect for me) also to add, im seriously impressed with internet speed - im not expert but on my old lenovo legion with 1650 thats about 5 years old, i was having around 60 ping in online games, and now in same games i have about 20% less ping on same wifi just by using this laptop.

that's funny, in my country, if you know to shop, brand new laptops will outspec and outperform desktops slightly, despite having a screen and keyboard included, but USED, the desktops outperform laptops 3-4 times easily, as people ask stupid high prices for used laptops. at the end, if laptops are so expensive, just get a desktop or 2 :)

[05:33] Thanks for the detailed review! It's great to see the performance breakdown and comparisons with other laptops in the same price range. The battery life on the G5 seems surprisingly decent, and the upgrade options are a plus.
[08:20] I'm curious about the cooling performance with the cooling pad. Did you notice any significant improvement in thermal throttling or overall performance when using it?
[12:13] As for the screen quality, it's unfortunate that it's not up to par with some other budget laptops. Did you find the screen's performance to be a deal-breaker for gaming and content consumption?
[19:33] Your comparisons with the Acer Nitro 5 are very informative. It seems like the Nitro 5 offers some advantages, especially in terms of build quality and keyboard. Based on your review, it does seem like the G5 is a decent budget option, but the Nitro 5 might be the better overall choice.
Thanks again for the thorough review!

In conclusion, as an RTX 4060 budget-friendly gaming laptop, this G5 is a good contender.
The RTX 4050 6GB on the Acer Nitro 5 is impressive on many aspects, especially when using on full power 95-100w on games performing similarly to the RTX 4060 8GB 65-75W on the Gigabyte G5.
Well, in any case, for future-proofing, go for the G5 and plug an external display to at least boost some frames.
And for productivity and AI-work related tasks, the G5 could be a better option for 8GB of VRAM RTX 4060.

The battery is located in the bottom of the laptop, and it is held in place by a few screws. Fan curve in Gigabyte center did absolutely nothing. It was very noisy and distracting since it almost never went quiet. I was also reaching thermal throttling most of the times playing Warzone 1. So, let's say I use this laptop *daily* for something like card games and/or League of Legends and World of Warcraft, and using medium (instead of high) graphics settings in those games, up to 15 hours weekly. Would it last for 5 years, or would it be trash by its second or third year? Would prioritizing performance over screen quality improve this laptop's life expectancy or would these be negligible differences?

IMO, the 40 series absolutely crushes the 30 series as it has Frame Generation where I can max out AAA titles with butter smooth play.
The keyboard on my G5 doesn't flex like in this video. They released a bios update that fixes the mini display port. The speakers are very low end but some creative pebbles for 30$ will demolish $5000 laptop speakers , they are fine for on the road.
Now there is a real issue, this laptop will pull far more than 150 watts, this causes performance issue especially if you have additional fans, controllers connected.
It will bench better when the adaptor is cool, I have purchased a 230 watt adaptor in the mail currently for $70 Canadian. I believe that this laptop will perform much better once it can draw as much clean power as it likes. I am very happy with it, but the acer Nitro 5 is now on sale for only $200 more and it comes with a 280 watt brick and 16GB DDR5 installed, so that would be better at that price. Another thing is the 4060 has no advantages past 100 watts, it actually loses frames. I simply added a single DDR4 8GB stick when purchased and it worked perfect at 3200mhz for $20.
I also don't think the build quality is cheap, they cheaped on the power brick tho.

I want to ask something, here in Indonesia we have brand called Axioo that about to release their newest gaming laptop called Axioo Pongo 960 (i9) and 760 (i7) that is very similar to this, its still in pre-order stage and expected to be released near the end of this month, it has some differences compared to the gigabyte G5 which is (the 760 version):
    -Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-12650H (instead of i5)
    -Graphics: RTX4060 8GB DDR6 (100w instead of 75w) Hybrid
    -Screen: 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz SRGB 100%
-Memory: 16GB SODIMM (2 x SODIMM DDR4 Dual Channel memory up to 64GB,Frequency up to 3200MHz) (instead of 8gb)
The price is Rp16 Million or roughly around 1070 USD

I have just bought the Gigabyte G5 KF laptop in Spain (16Gb RAM). Paid 910 euros with an extra 1T SSD.
This is my initial impression of it:
    • The keyboard is fairly compact and keys such the shift key is way too small and too close to the up arrow. Making it kind of hard to use it easily. I guess it is only a question of some time to get used to it though.
    • The mouse pad is not in the middle at the bottom of the keyboard. It is shifted to the left (I assume this is because the NumPad is not “part” of the keyboard according to Gibagyte). This is all good, but your left hand is not resting properly on the keyboard and this makes it uncomfortable to write for longer periods.
    • The speakers….god….the speakers. I have never listened to speakers of such low quality. They could have just not included them. I am serious. The quality is so bad that listening to anything makes me wonder what they were thinking when they agreed on using such speakers and I immediately switch to my earphones. You cant really do that when you want other people to listen to your music or video, can you?
    • The SSD. Gosh..a gaming laptop with 512Gb? I immediately bought a 1T SSD in order to have more storage.
It is not a terrible laptop, but I am returning it. There is no way I would keep it.

Bought it on Amazon 6 months ago while it was on sale for 800 Euro with 16 GB RAM already inside. Screen, graphics, relative silence in silent mode and overall handling is good. Sound is bad without headset or external speakers. With entertainment mode ON ( heavy gaming ) It turns into jumbo jet - big no-no. If you are a casual gamer dont buy - wait for 3rd or 4rth RDNA generation silent budget laptops. For example Guild Wars 2 or Dying Light runs smooth and silent in native resolution on Mendocino AMD Athlon Gold 7220U with integrated 610m RDNA 2 ( with only 15 WATT usage ! ) with 8GB DDR5 RAM. IMHO it would even run Horizon West - the intro plays smooth but then game crashes. Newer APUs like AMD Ryzen 7-7840HS would handle even that.

I just got the gigabyte G5 laptop for my birthday today, but it doesn come with the gigabyte controls for the keyboard. Does this mean i have to download the software onto the laptop?

@JarrodsTech What are your thoughts on the GIGABYTE G6 KF ? Have you had a chance to test/review one?
I wonder how it compares to this G5. I imagine the G6 should have about a 10-15% better performance across the board.

We declined it, not worth spending the week it takes testing for something so similar with a slightly bigger screen.
