I do contract work at a war museum. There are quite a few artifacts that have been gifted by vets after visiting the museum. Knowing that their story will be shared and passed on, and providing a piece of that history for others to view, has been an instrumental part of them finding peace.
As someone who grew up in the same city as him and enlisting in the army literally tomorrow morning it’s really an inspiration. There’s no way this was a coincidence having this video pop up I believe it’s a sign that I’m doing the right thing by joining the military. Thankyou for your service.
As a Vietnam vet & having just watched Andrew's video, his story resonates with me. As part of my journey, I've been reading Vietnam stories. But this one is different! It shows a more common thread between veterans of all wars. I've just purchased his book. Thank you Andrew for this inspiration!
I'm going to get this for my dad. A'sau valley 1969. His 75th birthday is in August. His life has been hard. I have so much respect for you as a fellow vet and son of a Vietnam vet. Happy Easter
Andys work with veterans is amazing. The Rifle and The Rifle 2 are amazing books. Some came home and did amazing things, others went the other direction. He tells both sides, the good and the bad. Keep up the great work Andy!
I was in the Navy during Nam. They had me doing shipboard work, but no combat. And I trained with the Grand rifle, and understood a lot of its' meaning. This interview really had the ring of truth. And I learned a lot. Thank you for bringing it to us.
My grandfather was a U.S. Army WW2 combat vet. Many years ago I bought a M1 Garand and showed it to him. His eyes got wide and he refused to hold it. WW2 traumatized my grandfather.
Great interview. I've seen Andrew on the Underground History Channel. Great guy. I want his book but I've seen him more with WW2 heros than I've seen on his own military experience. I'm glad y'all were able to do this with him.
Served Army 93-97. Joined to see combat. Never got my wish. Was asked after 9/11 to rejoin when I was 26. I knew my military history. Told the recruiter. “The Russians lost. Why would the US do any better” i just got done reading a book about the soviets in Afghanistan. I did not fall for the patriotism bit. I knew I could see combat. But we would loose. I was right over 20 years later. I pity all 9/11 vets. Stupid cause and stupid war.
I can confirm a lot of what's being said. I was there in 11-12. RC-East. Hundreds of types. Incendiary propellant was a favorite of theirs in my province.
God bless you sir. I understand why those wwII vets brighten up at the sight of a Garand. Thank you for your past service and continued service. Happy Easter as well.
I remember seeing that same couple. I watched the man try to hold the lady in comfort and prayed that I had someone to die with like that when my time came. I’ve been married to a disabled veteran for 9 years now. World is a kind of sad funny like that.
Thank you for telling us your story. Thank you. I did not join the military but i will show my child this video to help that they will understand the importance of being American. Also its so sad you had to go through that. Im a 911 middle school person so ya.
Oh my god I just listen to this whole thing and I didn’t even realize it was him… I’ve read part one of “the rifle” fantastic book and I can’t wait to read the second one!
I deployed in 06 and 2010 to Kandahar province, and hopped across the Helmand River once or twice on each tour The British had about 5000 troops, the Dutch had a very effective battlegroup, and the USMC had a ton of folks...all in AO's right next to each other. No matter how many Taliban they killed, the place was always a hot spot...it never died down...
@erikspolyssov4772 so I'm no expert on how the insurgency was structured or supplied in Helmand, as both of my tours were to Kandahar province... Their biggest ally was Pakistan, by far. The Taliban would cross the border into Pakistan because they knew NATO wouldn't directly engage them there and the Pakistani's protected them. Pakistan also supplied about 95% of the ammonium nitrate that were used in IED's (Yes, the same Pakistan the US was supplying about $10B in military aid to annually...there's a reason why UBL was found in Pakistan, it's not like they didn't know he was there) The Haqqani network was another force that was in line with the Taliban. They recruited foreign fighters to an extent, and were known to be better overall fighters than the Taliban (on average) Foreign fighters typically meant they would be better equipped and better trained... In our AO - we mostly just came across Taliban though.
The Islamic movement of Uzbekistan The Turkistan islamic front Caucasus emirate Did you fight them? One of my family friends was also an infantry men he fought them He has a combat infantry badge The foreign fighters what kind of equipment did they carry Beside the Afghan taliban?
Dude just described my childhood😭😭 sticks used as toys guns, the ghetto but it was single moms and kids having fun etc… and i wanted to join the military because of it but thx to diabetes i cant🤦🏽♂️

New gen combat boots should have special armor features that like a airbag being deployed, the boots deploy out of each sole a carbon fibre " umbrella, deflecting the blast to the sides. Just a thought. Something needs to be done!
I wish you life a life of peace and happiness.you have seen so much.I never knew my Father was in the Army till I was a teenager because he seen the horror s you might have seen.Your a tuff Mfr.i know not just physically mentally
U hear that they have no remorse for human life. So y not just let them and anyone else pour into our beautiful country! I drive truck the last 25 years we r in trouble its alarming how many r here. Hopefully my kids and grandkids still have this beautiful country to explore.
There was only one person who survived the tower collapses on 9/11 that joined the military and he jpined the Corps. Not sure where this guy is getting all these supposed survivors that joined his reserve unit....
You not going 200 meters to save a bunch of friendly soldiers on fire because of some rule with an imaginary line is the epitome of cowardice. When i was in the Marines as a boot, i was scared shiless of my senior lances disapproval. I eventually realized how cowardly it was when i found myself doing the wrong things over the right things because i didn't want to go against what they said. This story is a way more extreme example and that should not have happened.
If anyone is feeling lonely and brokenhearted know that Jesus heals and delivers from every form of torment, he truly gives a peace that surpasses understanding that this evil world can never give. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Fear and worry come from the devil but life and peace come from Jesus. God has been misrepresented by people who don’t know him, church attendance is not Christianity.

Congrats man, it’s a great opportunity to be entrusted with some unique responsibilities!

With all we know about the military industrial complex, it's wild people are still enlisting. Wish I had known before I enlisted in 2009.
