    Inspiring to hear how well you've responded to the higher intensity. Curious to see what you can achieve for the shorter distances. A sub3hr marathon would be seriously impressive 💪👍

      Thanks Kristoffer. The sub3 is definitely ambitious atm. Lots of work to do to make that viable but it's definitely on the bucket list.

      I'd definitely recommend it! I'm loving being part of a big club. Going to local races together and training together each week is great.

    Interesting to see your club is WADAC. I'm in Winch and I run ultras and have an Ironman and cycling background but since switching to ultras, my speed work has dropped off a cliff. My 8yr old daughter has just joined WADAC, so I'm there on a Tues but haven't taken the plunge to join myself.
    I'm doing North Chilterns tomorrow, Wendover Woods in Nov and have an entry for Arc100 in Jan (eek!)
    I pretty much run on my own but whilst waiting for my daughter to finish on Tuesdays, the club does look great. I should pull the trigger but this 57 yr old body grumbles a bit nowadays!

      Good luck tomorrow Ian and with the Arc! That is a monster race. Definitely on my to-do list but not sure when I'll try and tackle it.
      You should definitely join. The club has a real mix of fast runners and ultra runners and a massive mix of fitness levels. I've always hated doing speed sessions but it makes a huge difference doing it with others. And everyone bunches up based on their pace so there is always a group running at the effort you want to run. There are groups in the club running most days, but I'm mostly just coming for the Tuesday track and Thursday threshold sessions. It's definitely helping me get away from the ultra shuffle.
      They also do a lot of local road, relay and cross country races which make a nice change when not building for a big ultra.
      You can always come for a taster session to see if you enjoy it before committing. Just email the membership email on the website and they'll get you along for a few sessions.

    hi James glad your running club is helping you. I think with the right conditioning work as well you will make huge gains. For my last 50k race I only averaged a 35 mile a week leading up to it. I got my running economy dialed to my race pace and did a lot of conditioning work. I went through 50k in about 408 in 90 degree heat on a hilly off road course and I have not even raced a marathon before. I will be putting a video of how I did it on my channel at some point. I have some tips that I think would help you and as your tips help me it would be nice to give something back.

      Interesting! You must be in pretty good shape right now. I definitely need to work on my strength and conditioning! Will keep an eye out for it!

    I found a similar effect by including parkrun into my marathon block.

    • @jamesday1
      @jamesday1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! Were you running parkrun at max effort regularly? I've always found a race pace 5km to be quite a painful experience 😅

      @@jamesday1 yeah I was or I was running with a group that would be my 10k pace if I had a big run the next day. Really helps you get used to running in crowds which is so hard to replicate
