    Finally somebody realized how to do it. They do a ton of money selling everything but fuel, even to people doing only quick breaks, so to people doing a long stop, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

    • @larsoleruben
      @larsoleruben 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Exactly. They have realized that selling food, coffee, etc will make a super nice extra profit to the electricity sales they also do. And with batteries they can purchase power at night when it is cheap, and sell it during the daytime for with a huge profit.
      Seems only Circle K is in for it. In denmark we see Circle K and OK doing the same.

      $/hour = visits/hour * $/visit. Charging takes too long and they don't get many visits, too short and people don't spend much. Wonder where the sweet spot is and if they would be discouraged from installing the next crazy fast charging technology. I'm guessing about 15 min charging is about right, long enough for people to grab a coffee and a bite, but keeps the turnover high.

    • @TransientTRP
      @TransientTRP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      When I had a gas car, I would fill up and go. Almost never did I go inside the store. When I'm fast charging my EV, I'm wandering around looking at whatever is nearby. If there's a store like this, I can guarantee I'm going inside and looking around.

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@msmith3395 ... I think your 15 minute analogy for charging is about right for charging. Comparing that to a "gas only stop" on a road trip I just finished, it takes almost 15 minutes to gas up, restroom break, and grab a snack. (2 or more people in the car) OTOH, add in those tables (inviting people to take a break) is a deal changer, and probably jumping the average time up by another 10 minutes. This is where marketing a service will win out and people will spend more money. It's a win for a business in the long run.

    • @davidshipp623
      @davidshipp623 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the great thing about EV’s is the rest break and the fuel break become the same time. It would actually be good to have some slower chargers as well in other parking places, so that those staying for a whole meal have a bit more time. Best thing is a clear distance to the gas pumps.
    Charger - Restaurant - gas pumps - and furthest away - truck diesel.
    As an EV Driver I personally do not want to charge next to a smelly and loud Diesel truck.
    Way to go - Circle K.
    Looking forward to it.

    Electric stations could have walls, there are no fossil fumes, after all. With the waste heat from the transformers, they could be an oasis in winter.

    • @noocyte
      @noocyte 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In Norway (any other cold climate) they should harvest that warm (scavenge as Bjørn calls is) and use it to heat the inside (cafe++).

    • @FaceTubeU
      @FaceTubeU 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really practicle. It would require industrial ventilation and filtration systems because tires produce a large amount of particulates as they wear down that are not healthy to breath in. All that tire rubber mostly goes into the air as dust rather than the road from the friction. While not nearly as bad as exhaust fumes from ICE vehicles, all that tire rubber dust being breathed in by the station attendants would not be good for their health. A large solar canopy that covers the whole lot would be a healthy compromise.

    Bjorn, this battery pack in a container is to address peak charging issue. Probably electricity provider does not deliver power to cover all charges and if there are all in usage batteries can balance missing power and charge when stations are not fully utilised. I saw this solution in Poland.

    I like this! It's a bit funny they didn't install chargers for the spots where you were parked, and they forgot some labels on the parking/charging places.

    • @babstude
      @babstude 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zetadimensions yeah that's true sadly !! we do have some government incentives in Canada but I believe they are far less generous than what most of the European countries can enjoy. It's not like there is "no" demand in my country; I live in a city of 1 million people and I see several EV's on the road whenever I drive around town; they are coming but slowly.

  • @kimeinvik
    @kimeinvik 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is funny how quickly things change. This station is next to a brand new section of the road. They spent 4 years building it. When the road build was launched, they quickly anounced they would build a gas station there. At that time it was gas only. A little time later, circle k wanted to also add chargers. But local politicians did not want to give up more space. And now, a few years later, this is what we have! Talk about a total turn around!
    Also Bjørn - the hill you went up on too see the roof, will have a "MAX" burger joint eventually.

    They’ve just opened one in UK too, and FastNed. Gridserve were the first with the mega charging hub in Essex. I think the multi-stall approach is finally coming to the UK (non-Tesla of course, as they always did it). Maybe CircleK could invite Tesla to add superchargers at these new stations with onsite storage like Gridserve did.
