    Palpatine is the kind of guy who, when his entire decades-long, super-complicated, galaxy-spanning, masterfully woven conspiracy against the Jedi is almost revealed, turns, 100% unfazed and in control, to a Jedi Master and says, "that seems unlikely, don't you agree?" and he never even flinches. And then he straight up reveals the conspiracy to the clone trooper. That's why he wins.

    I love the dramatic irony of this storyline. We all know Fives can't succeed. We already know how the war goes. But on first-viewing, a part of me desperately wished that Fives would manage something. It's so sad, because there's only one way things could really end, and yet you want to hope against all odds that things will work out. That's basically a feeling the prequels can evoke as a whole, but you don't know how an individual arc will go. This one's frustrating, as we know things can only really end one way, but Fives comes tantalizingly close to making a major difference.

    • @bluehero-96
      @bluehero-96 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Oh, he can't? That's not what the movies and novelizations say. That's not what the rest of Star Wars said. The arc would have fit if they did remove the inhibitor chips, but order 66 happened anyway. The clones have so much conditioning already that inhibitor chips are a redundant drama insert.

    • @phoenixgauntlet5237
      @phoenixgauntlet5237 3 ปีที่แล้ว +127

      @@bluehero-96 I don't want to do this - I've seen what you can do, but... the fact that pretty much every clone who had their chip taken out were disobedient to Order 66 (except for the especially conditioned ones). The few would have betrayed - but with their own reasoning, not brainwashing - and the majority would have fended off the massacre, most likely resulting in the uncovery of the Separatists in the Jedi Order.

      @bluehero-96 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Who actually removed their chips and disobeyed order 66? Rex apparently didn't remove his chip until after order 66, contradicting Rebels, adding more stupid to the list of Filoni's shit. The two with Rex in Rebels weren't in a position to do anything either, one presumed KIA, and the other not in the presence of his Jedi general at the time of his death. Really, only ARC troopers (who are trained specifically, not promoted), and commandos can seriously question and resist orders, and that's a byproduct of their more independent design.

      Palpatine like every high level Force User can sense the future to a limited degree of course, nonetheless he wouldn't die here that's just not possible, he's like the Devil in the Star Wars Universe and it took literally all Jedi in history combined including The Chosen One (within Rey) to finally kill him for good (and if we take Sidious' statement literally: all the Sith in history that were within him).

      To elaborate a bit further:
      The Clone Army is itself pretty suspicious. They're a clone of Jango Fett, a guy they know was an agent of Dooku. Your Clone Army having about two degrees of separation from a Sith Lord should be a *very* big red flag.
      In addition, Obi-Wan was told that the Clones had some degree of mental conditioning by the Kaminoans. And The Jedi Council did notice something was up about Palpatine. Put all these pieces of information together, and you can figure out the plan.
      To be fair, the Jedi did actually catch on to Palpatine's plan, they just did so a little too late.

      Furthermore, at the time they actually didn't know that Dooku was a Sith apprentice. They of course assumed it, since he clearly fell to the dark side, but they couldnt be 100% sure. The audience knew he was, because it was revealed that he was Darth Tyrannus at the end of the movie.
      Dooku also revealed that the Senate was controlled by a Sith Lord and offered Obi wan to join him to defeat the said Sith lord. I reckon this confused the Jedi quite a bit.
      Of course, the Jedi do indeed find out that both Dooku is a sith lord and that he created the clone army, and this happens in season six, very close to the end of the war. That's really where the issues start.

    My question is how is Shaak ti supposed to know the Palpatine is a Sith? Nobody else in the Jedi order knew it. All the Hate towards her for some how "killing all the jedi" doesnt make much since.

    • @SchnellTim
      @SchnellTim 7 ปีที่แล้ว +255

      She was supposed to give Fives a fair say. That didn't really happen. Shaak Ti was also negligent of the Kaminoan doctor's evident dislike for Fives. The doctor injected Fives' with something, probably some sort of chemical to increase Fives' degradation rate and increase his anxiety levels.
      There were just too many slip-ups on Shaak Ti's part.

    • @BL4CK5M1TH

      And also, Master Ti never sought to question what he was saying for herself. She understands there is more to what Fives is saying and doing but nothing comes of it, and what little action she did take was more or less pointless

      I got the feeling that Palpatine was very focused on manipulating the Jedi, both with actual false clues, like his apprentice Dooku, his scapegoat Grievous and of course the gigantic war, as well as the force, as can be seen with Yoda and other members of the council.
      Fives finding out about the chips was a freak accident, something unforeseen but once it became known to him, thanks to being the chancellor, he was able to fully take control of the situation, clouding Shaak Tis mind and forcing Fives into attacking him.
      To me, the Jedi weren’t clueless, Sidious was just terrifyingly cunning and powerful.

    Nala Se is a really complex character it turns out. Back when these episodes came out I assumed wrongly that Nala Se and the rest of the Kaminoans were just greedy little aholes, but when I think back to the episode when the medical base was being attacked and Nala Se was given the chance to evacuate, she chose to stay with the injured clones even if that meant she would die. And after seeing the first episode of The Bad Batch, how she protected them and Omega, and even with this scene, given what she said the episode prior, I think Nala Se really cared about the clones and would do anything she could to protect them. I think she honestly thought that Fives was a threat. If he somehow convinced the Republic to have the inhibitor chips removed, that could lead to them being aggressive like she said, which would lead to the Republic decommissioning them as the Empire would later do. She also did not trust the Jedi, and probably thought having such a failsafe order should they go rogue was a good idea. From her perspective I can totally get that now. She just didn't know it was part of some grander plot.

    George Lucas is clearly a student of history. Palpatine seems to be a well put together combination of Hitler, Stalin, Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus, Caligula and Diocletian. George also seems to have mirrored historical events when writing about Palpatines plans, for example, Order 66 is an obvious copy of the Night of the Long Knives.
    This is very effective, as it makes the events in an otherwise unrealistic fantasy land seem very plausible. The fans who criticised the prequels obviously knew Fuck all about the world around them to not see that

    I feel like this really adds to Palpatine’s ability to manipulate and adapt. An unforeseen malfunction has just happened, and Palpatine tries to cover it up as a virus, then one clone gets a little too sleuthy and is about to blow Order 66 out of the water. But he’s perfectly calm outwardly, gives no sign that he’s trying to cover anything up, and quickly thinks up a plan to make Fives seem insane, make him the victim of the situation, and cover up his plot at the risk of assassination by Fives or someone else looking into Order 66 like Fives did since Fives’ actions might seem strange to the average clone or… anybody.
