      I don't know if you've seen it at this point, but The Bass Gang also did a version of this song with Lauren Paley. While Voiceplay balanced the creepiness out a bit with the Disney Haunted Mansion characters, The Bass Gang just went full steam on the creepiness.

    Lauren Paley is known as the Stairwell Siren. She sings in her apartment complex’s stairwell to creep her neighbors out. Lots of her stuff is on TikTok. She was a perfect choice for this song and of course VoicePlay killed it.

    The whole thing is an homage to the Disney Haunted Mansion. Geoff is portraying the Caretaker. Eli is Alexander Nitrokoff, one of the portraits in the Stretching Room (you can see his portrait behind him of his character standing on a keg of dynamite. The character is a Russian ambassador and an anarchist, hence the accent and "explosive" personality). Cesar is fortune teller, Madame Leota, who appears in the Mansion as a ghostly head in a floating crystal ball. Lauren is Constance Hatchaway, the attic bride (she was filmed separately and did her own makeup). Her "hurry back" at the end is part of what a tiny ghostly bride (often called "Little Leota") says as you exit the ride. And Layne is the Hatbox Ghost, whose head disappears from his neck and reappears in the hatbox he's carrying. The bookshelves are a nod to the Mansion's library of ghost stories, all four stretching portraits can be seen to the right, and the portrait in the middle of the scene is Master Gracey, the aging portrait from the Mansion's foyer. Also, Elizabeth Zharoff (aka The Charismatic Voice) provided some extra spooky background voices.

    Geoff decided to hit us with a C#1 subharmonic at the end. His ability to sustain those subharmonics on pitch is amazing.

    • @johndeeregreen4592
      @johndeeregreen4592 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marcch72, F#1 being his lowest chest note. That is 3/4 of an octave lower than an average bass singer and only 2 semitones higher than the lowest note on a bass 4-string bass guitar (bass instruments are always one octave lower than typical bass singing voices) ... so, yeah, I would call that low.

    Lauren's high "scream" note is an E♭6 - quite high for a non-opera singer!
    Lauren's solo version of this song is available on YT, it might be worth a listen or reaction.
    VoicePlay's minis channel has a video of them "accompanying" Lauren while she sings this song in her stairwell. It gives a very different mood to the song.

    This is the same set that is used in the PattyCake Productions piece Villains at the Haunted Mansion. The characters are from the ride.
    Lot of tiny details:
    -Lauren: her demented eyes turn red just before the banshee. She is semitransparent- you can see embers through her
    -Layne’s crazy makeup! A LOT if people had here and Geoff mixed up. Lots of black food color in some sort of gel for his teeth. When he laughs, the inside of his mouth is black.
    -Grim Grinning Ghost busts appear in the bookshelf behind Geoff (who had to crouch the whole time)
    -Eli is unstable Alexander NITROkoff on a keg of TNT/nitroglycerin (BOOM!) (“stretching” portrait behind him)
    -Cesar is the medium Madam Leota at the seance table. Was he singing in his head voice?😂
    -Elizabeth Zharoff (Charismatic Voice) provided background eerie tones.

    They have based the characters and the background on Disney's The Haunted Mansion, Geoff knows it well having taken part in that production at Orlando. You can see it as well in the Grim Grinning Ghosts. The original of this song I believe was electronically produced and is very haunting, then Lauren did it in her stairwell to scare her neighbours and it went viral. So when VP decided to do it they asked her to take part and Layne flew to her to film her on a green screen and added it in.

    Loved your reaction, thanks! I'd love to hear your reaction to VoicePlay's cover of Warriors, and of Aerosmith's Dream On. If you do, it would be fun to do them in that order. Although the two songs aren't originally connected musically, VoicePlay decided to loosely connect them through the story line. In their vision, Dream On picks up about 2 years after Warriors. Musically - in my opinion - they are two of VP's most spectacular.
