This video is very helpful. I have a timing fault code. I will use a PicoScope on my car plus use this method too to check the timing of my encoder wheels.
As someone who did this on that engine many many times i can say you’re timings are fucked up mate. Use the germanautosolution kit or the original BMW ones. After you set everything correctly, use the holes (mentioned in the video) only to check the position of timing chain covers…. If they dont fit you get a failure code aswell because the camshaft sensor isn’t in the right position to do his job even if you did a 100% correct job on setting up the timings. This is really helps me out as i dont have the money to get the timing kit as of right now. By doing this would i be able to do the timing guides?

Did you check and isn't it ok that those holes in the lid line up with the holes in those tabs?
