There's nothing more scary than a child/teen left all alone in this world, my heart breaks whenever i watch this scene. A lonely girl with no family, no money, no power, surrounded by hyenas standing in line to take advantage of her. Just the thought of going through something like this is unbearable
This movie really sticks with you. It makes you appreciate everything you have. The ending, feel, and atmosphere of the movie just feels dreadful and the ending leaves you feeling empty
Imagine bringing/forcing a child into this world just to leave them to suffer and fend for themselves, feeling so lost they end up taking their own life. The ones who betrayed this little girl, stole her innocence, and left her all alone are pure evil.
This film is a poigniant reminder about the nature of prostitution. 99% of the time, there is no true consent. Most prostitutes are actually tricked and enslaved into this type of work
That’s really what I think happened to the mother. I watched a recap of this video thinking that she didn’t care about her daughter, but seeing her cry while holding her made me think she was manipulated by Sergei.
I know it’s not confirmed but I think it’s safe to say her mom got sold into human trafficking as well. I’m sure the mom wasn’t perfect but they probably forced her to disown her so she wouldn’t keep asking and go looking for her.
Yes, honestly i never considered that at first but looking back it seems like that could've been the case. The fact that they told her last minute that she couldn't come along and the fact that she never called or wrote.. It did seem like the mother cared for her and her "boyfriend" lied saying that Lilya could come later when he never intended for her to come along at all. Mother probably thought she would make life easier for her daughter by making money in the US to send back and believed her boyfriend's lies. Perhaps her mother was being held captive too. had her documents confiscated, no access to phone or mail.. then that strange letter was sent by her "mother" (probably the captors) basically abandoning her. also when they were leaving, the "boyfriend" had zero compassion to let them properly say goodbye while it seemed like it was absolutely killing the mother to leave her. The whole move to the US obviously seemed extremely last-minute and it seems like her mother was tricked by this man that she thought loved her. There were probably many parallels between the mother and the daughter's experiences-- someone faking a romantic relationship to exploit them, promise of a better life, tricking them into leaving their loved ones saying they can "come later"..
This makes a lot of sense. It's consistent with the themes of the film too, as Lilya's experience mirrors her mother's, which started the whole chain of events in the first place. It means her mother wasn't as heartless she appears, but as an audience we're seeing the situation from Lilya's perspective and as she probably never makes the connection, we're never overtly shown that that was her mother's reason for leaving.
This movie suddenly popped into my head. It really hit me hard when I watched it. I totally forgot about this scene. Her parents are to blame for what happened to her. They are no parents. By far the most depressing film I’ve seen.
When I first saw this movie I thought Lilya's mom abandoning her in that second world shit-hole slum and doing it out of nowhere would be the most depressing scene in the whole movie. Little did I know that was only the top of her slippery slope into hell. I'm far from a white knight, in fact I've been accused of being kind of a douchebag to women. Even so, I found myself wanting to reach through the screen at times in this movie to embrace Lilya, tell her everything would be okay, rest her crying eyes on my shoulder and get her the fuck out of the path to ruin on which she was left stranded. Never before and never since this movie have I so desperately wanted to reach out to the protagonist.
The twist is that her mum may have been taken in the same way she was, they both left the same way, they might have been held hostage in the same building and never known. This movie is fantastic, real and sad.. my favourite film
Wow this seen was so heartbreaking. I can't breathe. The seen where she threw that God painting it felt so real knowing there are millions of people who are actually facing these stuff
No, from the real story that this film was based off the mother didn't get sex trafficked. Instead she got married a 3rd time and apparently regretted abandoning her daughter.
Yeah... When things are bad in US, they surely are 100000... worse than in former USSR... What makes things bad in US is the ignorance and arrogance most of people show. Cheers.
uhm, did you even watch the movie? her mom didn't make her suicidal, that was hardly the beginning. didn't you notice the new bruises on her face when the creator of this video skipped from that scene to the other?
I liked when teh dog came and leik tried to make her feel leik better cuz her leik left her and shitz.. it was a nice dog leik awesome dog i love that dog
I wonder the dog was part of the crew or just some stray husky dog randomly walking by... Since movie scene filmed outside take certain amount of space, people & gadgets I'd say it wasn't randomly walking by
I think the dog scene symbolises that Lilya is like an abandoned stray puppy from now on, at the mercy of the elements, with no one to care about her. The dog symbolically welcomes her with a warm kiss into that harsh world.
i first watched this movie years ago and i sometimes watch short scenes like this again even though this movie broke me. i have never cried more at a movie. it's painful but also beautiful.
@Simulki I have seen this taoe. In the middle I was wondering if that man was this kind of person and I had right....Too good to be true... Also since I saw this trailer I understand that you may have right
@MondoBeno Hmm.. that was maybe in the early 90's when things really were bad. Life is pretty good right now :) except the fact that human traffic still exists in this world and there is nothing that you and me can do about it.
It’s a true horror movie.
No ghosts. No zombies. No monsters.
Just the reality.
No monsters? I beg your pardon. Her mom, aunt Anna, the fake boyfriend, the pimp, all the men who SAed her. They are all monsters.
so deeply💔

Whenever parents say they'll go first they're really saying that their abandoning you.
