    9:20 guys I just want to point out how far away the microphone is from her. Truely epic opera it is.

    • @tinyhowie
      @tinyhowie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Yes. This singing was supposed to be able to project across 20-30 meters with clarity in an open ground without the help of a mic. It is likely they may have to tune down the mic just to protect our ears. We've been having this opera in Canton area in villages, none of them use mic, and surrounding neighbours can all hear the performance in the mid of the village.

    • @batperson3532

      @@batperson3532 usually they wont perform with the microphone

    • @NatsuKazooXIII
      @NatsuKazooXIII 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not just in opera, but singing in general. Distance between the singer and the mic is important because if the mic is too far, the voice won't be heard. And if the mic is too near the singer, it will cause those airy sounds that's painful to hear, especially in high notes. :3

    • @haihengh
      @haihengh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@NatsuKazooXIII there are reasons why opera sounds a certain way, certain sound wavelengths project sound further than others. opera exists long before the microphone was invented, for Chinese opera singers they are required to sing in open fields and let as many people hear the singing as possible. it took years of practice to master the sound, and most of the time, when you go to those operas live, you can feel the singing.

    • @aliciaxlife
      @aliciaxlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      you're welcome! Also I don't blame him at all for thinking that. It is very easy for most people who don't play at a high level to know the importance of a conductor. ^u^ that's why I was explaining it live to chat because a lot of people share that same idea.

    • @douglasjrza
      @douglasjrza 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      As much as I don't like Tectone's takes sometimes about Genshin. On this occasion he was being very obviously sarcastic during both of the concert streams about the conductor not being important in these performances. Even though I am defending him here, I wish he didn't do it. But he's doing it to rile up his chat which he does on every topic he covers on his stream.

    • @alicebalan
      @alicebalan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      never watch him. even CN community know tectone is very toxic and lots of drama, thus we dont like to watch his content and just ignore him.

    Hehe hehe 5 months late to watching your reaction of this concert. So beautiful:)
    Definitely interesting watching this concert from the perspective of a former erhu player in primary school for 4 years. it is not that easy to find it here where I live now:(
    Love your insights into the concert as a violinist. The bow synergy thing is definitely a thing, a bit strange but definitely a thing (does that make sense?) We have that same thing with the string section in our primary school orchestra. It was definitely quite funny at first and then it soon became the norm. These Genshin concerts have certainly make me want to go back to my primary school days.
    Thanks for shedding light on conductors' role for tha audience, I always get a bit frustrated when people dismiss the role as easy, or unimportant. The short time I was the section leader I was like...please don't look at me! We are doing fine, right?
    Great video!
    P.S That erhu player in the concert...makes me miss my own erhu...also you are now making me want to try out the violin

    I have not touched a Violin in like 14 years, was taught in school during band at like 2nd Grade, I quite enjoyed it, but growing up poor and not being able to afford a Violin was what pretty much prevented me from learning it further, I even learned to use Flute and Clarinet in Band in grade 9 and 10... Could not afford those either so I am pretty much back to square 1 in terms of using them

    • @aliciaxlife

      yup! So those are specialized instrumentation they are able to be put in front for display and since they are independent of a sectional the "concentration of unison" (sections playing together) and sound control is less on them. The conductor controlling the sound stylistic choices in live performance and indicators are essential for the following a lot more (only mentioning their live performance stuff their daily and rehearsal stuff is also intensive). 1) make sure the unison of a section is brought in properly and is maintained for consistency from practice to performance 2) bringing back in instrumentation that may have had a long resting period and helping with their reintroduction. This doesn't only help the section playing again but also the other sections so that they can see keep matching well 3) this is a bit more about prior to live performance they will practice within and make notes constantly within their scores and even the musicians themselves will write on their pieces to make sure they are consistent with the conductors notes.
