In every apartment I’ve ever lived in (Minneapolis, all 1910’s or 1960’s construction) the furnace, whether steam or hot air, is controlled by the landlord and paid for as part of rent, and literally does not get turned on until they decide it’s really cold. You can usually adjust your steam radiator(sort of...) once the furnace is on. This one is hot air, and I can adjust it up and down once the furnace is on. In more expensive buildings, I imagine there is more electric baseboard heating with more individual unit control, and gets billed with electricity. AC is window units for the plebs, and I assume something central with fancy buildings.

Conservatives have managed to gain such an ideological monopoly on the use of force, that everybody else thinks it's repugnant. we need marginalized communities to arm themselves, since situations like uvalde have shown that in the modern era, cops are afraid of people with guns. follow the example of the Black Panthers, and show up with force to show cops that they can't get away with all the sh1t they do. and if you tell me "well if black people did that they'd get shot" look at the world around you. they already are, regardless of what they carry. also, if you're not part of a marginalized community,,, use that privilige and show up to defend marginalized communities with force (ask people if they think they'll need it first, obviously. don't just appear with weaponry). we need people to go to politicians' houses and make their lives hell. we need to do the same for billionaires, and landlords, and white supremacists. we need to make it unsafe to be a bigot, a class traitor, or a pig, because as long as it is safe for people to inhabit those roles, they will. and voting isn't going to make them feel unsafe. in fact it does the opposite, by making progressive people think that they've done all that they can. anyways, this isn't meant to bring anybody down, and i don't want y'all to think you're in the wrong for doing what you're doing. it's just frustrating seeing good people fall a little short, and i hope that my little rant might convince some people that they need to do the extra work. much love, comrades
i totally agree about all the things you should be doing, but i think that people do underestimate the power voting has, especially on a local level. there needs to be more focus on all the activism that you should be doing outside of voting, but voting is such an easy way to (sometimes) make that change easier
