    Right, this is for anyone wondering. Shade tree mechanic here.
    The job took me about a day to do, not including all the stupid little stuff (I need oil, and a few other bits and bobs for the car in general). I used all hand tools.
    EXCEPT. This man in the video is a BEAST. I couldn't hold the gearbox up, so I had to dangle a chain through to do it.

    The bottom arm pinch bolts (1:40) can be horrors to remove. Use a flat screwdriver to (slightly spread the clamp and rattle the bottom arm up and down the bolt comes out easily. If it’s rusted scrap the bolt and replace with high tensile.

    • @khang2122

      Yh, bloody pain.... Had a long arse bar to try and pry it down, woudnt go down,opened that clamp as wide as possible, finally got it out

      @davidelliott5843 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Grind the tip off a screwdriver so the end just fits the clamp slot. Keep it for next time. You can now separate the clamp without hitting the ball joint pin.
      Get yourself a pair of replacement ball joint rubbers. The old ones are probably split, but they are easy to replace.

      How does the AP Racing clutch compare to the SACHS Clutch set 3000 951 532 which is recommend to fit my vehicle? I'm located in Croatia, so AP is not available to me, but can order online... have any link to reccomend exact clutch set for Panda?

    I have the Panda 4x4 0.9 Twin air, have you ever done a clutch on one of those? Is it much different?
    What sort of mileage do you get out of the stock clutch?
    Cheers.

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PD Tech we don’t seem to get any of the 4x4 ones. So my knowledge on that one will be limited. As far as I know. Correct me if I’m wrong. The gearbox is pretty much the same apart from the transfer box attachment.
      On average the mileage is roughly 80k miles we have found on these models.

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WMCS Cheers for the reply, as far as I know the gearbox is standard 6 speed box, with drive going to the rear wheels through a central driveshaft and rear diff setup.
      I'm on 37k miles, clutch feels fine and I'm very cautious with it anyway so it should last a few years yet.

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These gearboxes are prone to wear in the input bearing which takes out the oil seal. First clutch lasts 80,000. Yay!
      40,000 miles later, the new clutch starts slipping due to oil contamination. Boo!

    When u get the call and u r doing your parts gathering, u determine what type of oil it takes and make sure u have a sufficient quantity. And probably a selection of spare nuts and bolts and plastic rivets for the fender liners and belly covers. I always have a torch on the ready, so as to cherry red the exhaust nuts, although I have yet to c u deal with an exhaust removal. Almost all the cars and pickups I deal with, require exhaust removal, hence the hot wrench

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All gearbox lubricants will be either 75w90 semi synthetic or fully synthetic.
      So I always have 10L of each on board at any given time.
      I have about 30kg of assorted nuts bolts fasteners of any size and threads.
      Cable ties. C clips. Retainers. Plastic pops and so on.
      I have yet to use heat to remove a bolt. Always WD40..,
      I suppose for exhaust if the bolts has been exposed to constant hot/cold then heat rust might need to be torched.
      I avoid removing exhaust and always find ways to work around it.
      What vehicle are most common in your roads.

      95% r automatic transmissions. Quite a few SUV’s with big V-8’s. Quite a lot of work on the front of the engine on those monsters. Honda’s Toyota’s and Nissans. 60% of my work is check engine lights. Cars r smogged every two years and cel has to b out or it won’t pass. So no registration. Lots of scan tool and some scope work. Lots of brakes.

    • @robzster75
      @robzster75 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My suspicions were correct, the release bearing was shot, which in turn had bent the pressure plate, thanks to this video, I changed out the clutch. The hardest part of it all were the ball joint pinch bolts and drop link removal, had to cut all three out 😂😂 thanks again!!!

    • @qwertyuiop2895

      Yes, the bearings are the weak point of the FIRE family engine + C514 series gearboxes in any model.
      But, the cars are simple, perfect for DIY repairs.

  • @davidelliott5843

    I made an inner CV joint separator. Used angle grinder to slice a cheapo fork wedge ball joint separator down its length. Then welded in a 5mm thick steel separator to widen the fork by about 40mm. It pops out the inner joints with one firm hit. Well worth the effort.
