Was honored to serve in the Army branch of the U.S. Military from ’66 - ’68 as a computer operator [lucky].. wasn’t I? ……. As this was during the Vietnam ordeal]. Full Metal Jacket a move one of the best ending scenes ever made. If you remember, these Marines were American children during the post war boom of the 50s. The war in Vietnam, by contrast, was a rude awakening from their American Dream of a childhood, and broke many of these servicemen. The war represents their transformation and loss of their childhood, as the Mickey Mouse club was a popular show during the Golden age of the 50's. Them singing it here, in the middle of a war zone, shows how different they have become from their youth.

Stanley Kubrick was an artist. You don't destroy a masterpiece. Also, since they are singing it, it counts as a cover. They probably had to pay a small royalty. However, they also changed it a bit. After saying Mickey Mouse, instead of repeating it, it should say Donald Duck.

+Nigel Thornberry This song refers to the belicist brainwasher program (patriotism through press & media) to the young men for so these men go to combat in war and die for the economic and teritorial interests of evil elite who rules the countries governments. All made by our governments. The song make reference ditect to the Walt Disney MK ultra program that he apply to the public from his own films in 40's (maybe since Snow white) and co-worked with CIA to dominate the secret agents and movie and music stars later (Using Mickey Mouse image for this brainwasher). The use of the song tell it that everybody that go to war to combat go the useless slaughterhouse.
At the end bootcamp, when Hartman goes into the head to address the disturbance by Pvt Pyle, he yells "What is this Mickey Mouse shit?" So the movie ends with the Mickey Mouse club theme song. As a viewer you're invited compare the realization of Pyle "I am in a world of shit," with the situation the Marines are marching through, and the world in general. not really, its really ingenious if you think about it, these men have gone through hell and have seen very horrible things, and they sing a song of their innocent youth to try to cling to something while march onward deeper into the shit with the knowledge a good chunk of the fellow men singing with them won't make it out with them.

"That was just the Director being cute." yeah, but it's STILL a funny way to end a Dark Movie.
not really, its really ingenious if you think about it, these men have gone through hell and have seen very horrible things, and they sing a song of their innocent youth to try to cling to something while march onward deeper into the shit with the knowledge a good chunk of the fellow men singing with them won't make it out with them.
I don’t think you know the director of this movie very well. Everything he adds to the movie has meaning and a purpose.
but this was in the book.
