Martha Wash is a legendary singer. She is the voice behind some of the biggest dance hits from the 80's and 90's:
    Weather Girls - "Raining Men"
    C+C Music Factory - "Everybody's dance Now"
    Black Box - "Everybody Everybody"

She sang all the leads on Black Box album, didn't get credit, sued them and won a lot of money. She was also 1/2 of Two Tons of Fun, Sylvester's backup singers.

This was recorded on the debut album for Two Tons of Fun, the background singers for Sylvester. You may have reviewed her with Black Box or C&C Music Factory. She was the uncredited vocalist who had to sue for royalties years later. She's one of the best ever.

Jack, you’ve heard Martha *everywhere* but she often goes by different group names or uncredited in BGVs. Her more popular songs & features include “It’s Raining Men”, “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)”, “Strike it Up”, “Everybody Everybody”, BGVs on “Centipede” by Rebbie Jackson (Janet & MJ’s sister), and her work as BGVs for the late great Sylvester.

Oh my a great request. Love this song, love this singer. She and Izora known as two tons o' fun or the two tons were backup singers for Slyvester, another amazing talented vocalist. They eventually changed their name to The Weather Girls and had hits like "It's Raining Men" in 1982. She has an amazing song with Luther Vandross called, "I Who Have Nothing." Then she went on to sing vocals for C+C Music Factory & there was a controversy about that because she was not in the music video & not properly credited for her vocals. Another woman, French model Katrin Quinol, was lip syncing Martha's vocals in the music video. I remember hearing Everybody Everybody and thinking she sounds like Martha Wash from the Weather Girls & also thinking her voice didn't match her look or her energy, I still had no idea. Around that time quite a bit of that was going on. Like Milli Vanilli, that duo did have me fooled. I had no idea that wasn't their voices.

Rolling Stone said Martha Wash was one of the most unsung singers of the 90s because she was the voice of the Club and no one knew. Her voice was the night club from it’s raining men to everybody dance now and she rarely got credit. They used her voice and had skinny models lip synch to her, refusing to pay her. She sued and made vocal credits mandatory in the US

One of the best female singers of the last 50 years, and sadly very underrated because she was mostly a background singer, and as is famous in the record industry, found it hard to find a record company to back her because she was a large woman who could sing the hell out of the little twinkies we have to listen to today.
