Which Bobby Garland is Best for Crappie?

- The most popular fish species in North America is crappie, and more anglers reach for Bobby Garlands to fish them than any other brand of soft-plastic lure. The company offers various iterations, all designed to do something a little different in hopes of drawing strikes from the tastiest fish in fresh water.
With crappie season now upon us, we wanted to see which would give us the most confidence over the coming weeks, so we set up an underwater camera in a pool, and worked the lures in front of it. What we found was eye-opening and will certainly impact our lure choices this spring.

I appreciate you showing an underwater video of each one in action...the Slab Hunt'R Minnow seems to be best for me. Looks more like an actual minnow in the water.
Love this video. Would like to see more sacalait baits! Definitely a tube jig I’d love to see what it looks like since I catch most of my sacalait on it!
Lures w/ more action, swirl tails etc, for trolling and minnow profile jigs for vertical presentation seem to work best for me. Several years ago, a guy pulled up beside me and threw me a 'Shiney Hinee' -- a hair jig -
I said to myself, "Nah, I don't think so", but I use it almost exclusively now for vert jigging. 1/16 oz sits perfectly horizontal and never wears out.
A loop knot will do wonders
You have the best lure underwater vids ever!👍 I used these small lures for salt water trout. The trout were good size but were straightening out the hooks! Can you recommend some strong hooks in this size? Perhaps a vid using different brand hooks to test strength and corrosion resistance? Thank you!👍

Nice video! Sometimes crappie anglers think about profile more than action. Baby shad definitely fits the profile idea, looking just like a baby minnow. Many crappie like to tightline a jig under a long pole, rather than bouncing off the bottom. Not sure if it would make a difference in action, but you can’t keep the skinny tail of that baby shad from moving even if you try. Every little wave, move of the boat, or rod results in tail movement. That is one reason it can be so effective, imo. And sometimes less action can be more. Still like seeing them underwater. I’d like to see some crappie magnet jigs please
Use a loop knot for more action.
Did you just recently film this? What was the water temp of that pool? A lot of soft plastics on the market harden up and lose a lot of their action in very cold water.
I’m curious to see a repeat test during the time of year when the Crappie bite starts heating up.
Slab hunter minnow looks like a stout, durable bait that could hold up to a few fish.
They have a min version of the slab huntr but its a bit too small. The regular size on is a bit too big for most crappies and gills. I wish they would have made the huntr smaller version slightly bigger.

I use these baits that don’t have big action on a small spinner set up. Usually pretty successfully.
11:37 this actually looks like it slays. Crappie are usually just huddled around and this seems like the perfect lazy bait for them to chomp on.

I love your pool reviews. But, some of the plastics are finesse baits that must be moved slowly on the vertical motion. You are moving way to fast.

Interesting to see the swimming minnow do so poorly. It's one of my favorite baits, and it usually has a ton of action. Maybe you got a bad one.
How about next time using some local bait companies products. I mostly use the crappie psychic crappie weapon with his trailer’s.
I think you are applying to much action to the Baits.
I believe that you need to slow down to achieve the action that those Baits are designed for. You are moving those Baits way to fast. Especially the Baby Shad. Easy Cowboy.

PS. The other thing is you are using a Swimming Pool. A Swimming Pool does not have the same Water Pressure that a Lake has or any other body of Water and that will effect the actions of the Bait you are Testing. It's about Water Dinsenity and Pressure.
I could be wrong but that is my opinion of the matter.
