    I think I chose this major is because I love how you work with yourself. Besides the dentist, you’re kind of your own boss. You work you schedule without people having to tell you what to do. It’s a very independent position and I love it. This video was cool

      I have worked with Dental hygienists that dictate their schedule and choose how long to schedule appointments, have the freedom to order whatever supplies they need or prefer (pink gloves, different mask colors, etc). But, I have also worked with Dental Hygienists that are treated like dental assistants, which isn't bad but they are pulled to help assist the Dr. etc.

    as a student (almost licensed!) with 0 experience, it's really comforting to know that our routines in clinic are basically the same as a practicing hygienist. minus the part where you see a lot more patients in one day. It just makes it less intimidating knowing I am being prepared correctly. Thank you!!

      The most expensive thing on the planet is trust. It can take years to buy and simply a question of seconds to lose.
      . At the point when you fully trust someone, either you get an individual for life or an exercise forever. There’s no in the middle.
      Trust lies at the center of love; there can be no true love without trust. I feel so happy that the trust on one another continues developing.

I have told her maybe become a dental assistant first to get the feel of working in a dental office. Then finish school for dental hygienist. I'm a mental health nurse and I work long hours, overnight, holidays and mandated many times. I don't want my daughter to live a life that requires to much time away from her to enjoying life and family.

    I just came across this channel. I'm a dental hygienist in Michigan. I graduated from the local college in 1985. Have been with the same dentist for 34 yrs, he is 90 and going good. He is down to 3 days a week. It's a super old office and many patients are as old as the doctor, he is working on 5th generation patients. I'll probably retire in about a year. When I think how much I'll miss those people I get sentimental. I wish I had modern equipment like you. Very nice office. When I first hired in I was told the first thing you do is punch in, the second thing you di is start the coffee pot. Then continue. Ha ha

    • @ebonyrdh6772
      @ebonyrdh6772 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@IrrelevantReviewsAndComments hi there. Sure, I can elaborate, but first, I'm so happy you're considering it. A good friend of mine was an RDH for idk, maybe 18 or 19 years and she went back to school to become an RN and she enjoys being able to do both, but her primary is nursing at the hospital. Anyway, Hygiene put me in a place where some already slightly damaged cervical and lumbar areas of the spine from when I was in the Army, became more damaged. Pain is no fun, and it can put a major damper on work and everything surrounding it. Posture is everything as a RDH so my back was making life hard. In my case, I've always had large breasts and my shoulders just moved more and more forward to accomodate the weight of those over the years, creating a major problem. Also, I'm left handed and dental hygiene caters to the majority, which is not me. Some other cons are time, sometimes you feel rushed to see all of your patients; therefore you find yourself trying to accommodate the patient and save time by losing the most ergonomic position and just working in the position that will save the most time. The redundancy of the daily routine also gets a lot of hygienists. Listen, although I have introduced you to some of the cons, there are many, many pros out there so maybe go in and shadow a hygienist and see how you like it. The field would love to have you 😉

    Can I just say this pumps me up even more for hygiene school? Coming from a longtime dental assistant, I really appreciate that you help get your office ready in the morning. My hygienist is the same way and I love that we all get along and help each other like you all do. You're showing a lot of potential hygienists not only how to be efficient and precise, but to act as part of a team. 👍 Btw, what brand are those scrubs? They look super comfy! Edit: Oop. Found them in the comments. My bad!

    Amazing!!! Here in Brazil, I use to go to a clinic that a dentist perform cleaning routine, every six months. The funny part is that she has an assistant to help with the
    sanitation of the tools and a receptionist to take care of the schedulings. Looks like you handle it all, alone. Nice work!

    • @Rellchello
      @Rellchello 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      lrg Yeah no worries! Honestly, there’s a lot of potential reasons. I might stick with nursing as I just want to consider other possibilities. I went into the program with one of my best friends and she has since left the program; I also had some bad experience in the hospital and overall I just haven’t had time/don’t enjoy what I’m doing with my time while in the program. I have so much respect for the field and I know it’s in demand, but I guess I went into it blindly and while I want to help people and care for them, I don’t want to do it at the cost of my own well-being. Perhaps I will enjoy it eventually and feel happy as I know there’s so many different parts of nursing. Although, all things considered, I have always been a person who’s terrible with knowing what they want in life and despite it being my first year at uni I feel like this is my first time truly exploring possibilities for my future.

    I'm really debating between majoring in nursing or dental hygiene- if anyone could help out, what the job prospects for dental hygiene is, abundance and how is the job like? Thanks in advance.

    Are you guys not required to purge after each patient or was this just for video purposes? It’s interesting to see the differences in how we all do things depending on where you’re practicing. I’m in Ontario, Canada and you technically can’t even open and flush your chair without wearing full ppe. And we’re technically not allowed to prep a tray the night before for the next day and especially not leave it on the delivery tray. And we definitely can’t unwrap/open any instrument/handpiece/motor cassettes or pouches prior to the patient being seated. All instruments and pouches had to be labelled and numbered before they go in the autoclave in case we had to do contact tracing. And all this was pre-covid! Do you guys have to do quality assurance portfolios? I love watching your videos!

    I wish the dental hygienist at my office helped out as much as you did! With there only being 2 dental assistants it can be hard to catch up with sterile. I’d like to bring it to her attention but she always gets so defensive. Anywho, great content!! 💓

    I’ve been thinking about becoming a dental hygienist and I was just asking it the schooling really hard or stressful and was it easy to find an opening for your job?

    Can you make a video in regards to carpal tunnel or any other physical threats that dental hygiene comes with. Maybe what types of things that you do to prevent them or take care of them (for the medical problems you have)?? Such as; yoga, massages, medicines, oils, etc.

    I loved this video! Are there Dental Assistants at your office? I thought they were the ones who set up the trays and break down the room.

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you so much :) Some offices have specific dental hygiene assistants to help the hygienists - but some offices do not, in which case, the dental assistant is busy assisting the dentist, not the hygienist. It just depends on the office! Hope this helps! Thank you!
