A twist to these pet stories. My wife and I (married 38 years) have a 85 pound Lab, great dog. Only 3 years old so still basically a puppy. A big strong puppy. When people come to OUR house, we put him in a kennel. They meet the dog, then into the kennel. It’s in the living area but keeps everything calm (dog included). We constantly get crap from certain guests about putting him into a kennel instead of letting him roam around. “He should be free” and “he has rights, too” and all manner of stupid stuff. 100% of these coming from women, btw. So a couple observations: 1. It’s our dog. 2. It’s our house. 3. You’re our guest. 4. We missed that you’re the queen of England and get to order us around concerning. 🐈

Why is it weird or strange or even unacceptable to some people to NOT want a big hairy dog jumping on you and licking your face and jamming it's paws into you crotch? I'll never understand it.
    Control your damn dogs people.

It generally makes for good research into the mind of the opposition, so I know which counterarguments will be most effective for undermining their premise/position.
Just remember that US voting is, by law, (supposed to be) kept confidential. No one has the right to know how you voted, and it’s considered in poor taste to ask. If you’re in near-constant contact with your family and can’t afford a big blow-up, then just let them assume how you voted, and don’t correct them if they’re wrong. That’s supposing your family won’t listen to reason or at least put differences aside. If you think they’ll be able to respect your opinion when you explain your reasoning, it might be helpful to have a conversation with them IF they ask.

For Christmas, my brother was hosting and we had to go to his home for the holiday. My mother knows about his allergies and we asked her not to bring her dogs because three giant hair balls in a small home would be way too much for him to handle. My mother decided against it and brought them anyway saying that they would be lonely at home alone. My partner could only stand it for just over an hour and we had to leave - he could barely see the road on the drive home from the allergic reaction. I grew up with dogs. I grew up with my parents Treating the dogs better than their kids. To be fair the dogs did behave better. I love dogs. When my old black lab could no longer go up the stairs to sleep with me, I spent the next few months sleeping downstairs with him. Until he passed away.. The dog was bigger than me so I couldn't help him get up-and-down the stairs. I used to lie down on the floor with him. When it was time for him to go I made a whole package of bacon and fed it to him right until it was time for him to pass. He was around 15 years old. His paw was so big it didn't fit on their paw print mold. I love him. He was a great dog.
All that said. If someone doesn't want your dog around them it's your responsibility to keep your dog away from them. If you can't have control over your dog to keep them off of someone you're the one with the problem. You need to train your dog. You don't have control over your dog you're not a good dog owner. I think very highly of dogs to the point where I sleep on the floor with them. Human children come before dogs or any pets. Unless your children are being absolute h*** in's and can't respect the dog space, Children people come 1st. Those kids could have had allergies, They could have gotten a hurt. They could have accidentally rubbed those dogs the wrong way and gotten bitten. And no It is not OK for you to tell someone who doesn't want to be licked by a dog oh just let them do it. Do you know where dogs tongues have been? they're disgusting.
Few things gross me out more than those people who kissed their dogs on the mouth tongue or have them lick your face. They clean their privates with that tongue., They eat poop, They eat rotten dead things trash. They lick their butt holes and then go and lick you.
Nobody should be forced to be licked by anybody. The family with the dogs or the a*******.

My parents were divorced. I grew up With my mom from the time I was around 12,13 she had full custody.
Wasn't really allowed to be around my dad much. I only got to see him a few times a year. It was only when I visited my grandparents.
As an adult, I was so much closer to my dad than my mom. This is because my dad put in the effort. My dad would call and ask to spend time with me. My dad was the one that was always asking to spend time with the kids and offering to come pick us up to make it happen.
My mom wouldn't even visit me when she'd come into town for an appointment 5 minutes away.
I love both my parents. But my dad's the one who acts like he actually wants me around. He was the best grandparent to my kids. He passed away 3 years ago. I lost the only family who went out of his way to be with me. He Showed me how much he cared and loves us and wants us in his life. He showed me that he chose us. He chose to spend his precious time On us.
As someone who was basically raised by her grandparents I am completely shocked by how uninvolved my kids grandparents are. Except for my dad, My kid's other grandparents They don't call to talk to the grand kids, They don't show Any signs of missing us. They don't ever ask us to visit. I don't get it.
Growing up I was very obedient and well behaved. My kids are not so obedient but they are well behaved in polite. They show that they love it when we're there and they spend time with the kids, Show the enjoy it. But that's it. It's like they would be fine with it, or without it.
I understand my Mother in laws, They still have a teenage boy they're raising. They're super excited whenever we come to visit but they're just too busy to be active grandparents. My parents are retired. My mom does enjoy when we visit and they do love us but they honestly prefer their own time together or socializing with their friends more.
I tried getting my husband's father more involved but I gave up. Even when we lived minutes away we couldn't get him involved with us. Couldn't even get him to call us back. He wouldn't come to the hospital when the kids were born, He didn't come to our house visit after to meet them. He wouldn't come to birthday parties or dinners that I invited him to. And we never hear from him. We only see him back when we used to go visit that side of the family's Christmas.
I'm dumbfounded how people can be so uninvolved. Do they not miss their kids? miss and want to be around their grand kids to see them grow, Watch their character develop Maybe help teach them become the people they will be? It's sad.

In the second story, part of me feels like it was an a-hole move of the mom to divorce the dad and put hime in a facitility. The flip side is, if she legitimately struggled to care for him, the sad reality is that theres a possibility that the only way for her to be able to get any outside help for him may have been to divorce him. If they were married, her income may have counted against being able to get any kind of medicaid, im assuming he couldnt work and she became the only income, there may have been a lot of expense to try to get any sort of care/help etc. That said, while it seems lime an ahole move, without any extra detail, I can kinda give her thr benefit of the doubt that it unfortunately may not been due to lack of caring for him or that she just wanted to dump him, but that unfortunately it may have been out of practicality, for lack of a more sensitive way to put it.

I've got a nephew who went visiting and encouraged the dog to jump up. The son who owned the dog told him no. The dog was large and if he jumps could hurt someone. The nephew now has a dog and allows that behavior and he doesn't understand why people have a problem with it. There are idiots all over the place and sometimes they are relatives.

Also, it's the mom that is the A-hole for using the 98 year old grandma as a pawn to leverage Becca into getting the Maxeen.

The woman with the dogs should either control her dogs or leave. That's no different than bringing over your bad kids. My dogs are my kids too. But, I don't allow them to jump and lick my guests unless they are ok with it. Most people say it's ok. When they don't like it I put the puppy in a metal cage out of respect. The lady with the dogs is rude. But, at the same time it's rude to treat her dogs like they are less than her kids. I love my dogs more than any human on this planet. And, they have unconditional love for me. I think we should recognize that and give them the respect they deserve. Why should a human, who does bad things and only cares about themselves, get more respect? Dogs are so underrated. Intelligent people understand that.

Wife Divorced Mentally damaged Husband/father- for as horrible as it sounds, I've heard other wives being forced to do the same thing. As long as the deficient partner has a family with any income, THEY must pay any professionals to care for the disabled. Social Security WILL NOT HELP. She was devastated when her lawyer said to divorce him, so medicare would pick up the bill for his care. This lady, I don't think her husband was old enough to collect social security and even if they could secure disability payments, it wouldn't cover the charges of the facility. Their life savings had been depleted; the kid's college funds were depleted; she was contemplating the need to sell the family home JUST TO PAY THE FACILITY TAKING CARE OF HER HUSBAND... because the living expenses of the family were not as important as paying the facility to warehouse the dying father. It broke her heart, but she had living children to care for, on her own, and sadly the husband/father was a financial anchor around their necks.
It is a tragedy, but sadly, that is the nature of the business.

What good can come of that is the 98 year old woman gets to make an informed choice about who she has contact with based on her own medical conditions. It's beyond entitled, and maybe narcissistic, to decide to potentially expose an elderly vulnerable person to a virus when they've made it clear they are isolating themselves by lying about your vax status. You don't have to get vaccinated. It's your right. It's not your right to decide for someone else on what risks they take.

For the first pet situation-even if those pets were human children, you don’t let your kids invade your guests’ personal space, jumping all over them, kissing them, scratching at them.. that would be uncouth. You can still either teach your dogs manners and teach your kids personal boundaries.

Guys, the cost of a facility is astronomical and would have completely drained her financially. She wouldn’t have been able to even buy groceries. It’s obvious from the story that she did not simply ditch him. I worked at a nursing home in the billing department for years. He would have had government assistance as a single man. This is sad but for two seconds put yourself in her shoes. She did the right thing to protect her son.

@Beth that makes absolutely no sense. The man was in an accident, disability/medicaid/medicare would have kicked in to cover him. And from the story it's clear that the mother never visited him nor took the child to visit him. Idk why you're trying to absolve someone of a really evil decision to leave a spouse at their most vulnerable.

I am 21 years old and the vaccinated story is relatable to me. My great aunt and that side of the family are always asking if I am vaccinated but I always tell them no and they say I should do it because it saves lives. I dont want to die or have health risks because of the jab. I already have asthma and high blood sugar and pressure. Even if nothing happens I still do not want to take that risk.

If you have out of control pets that's on you as a damn owner, but you shouldn't have to lock them in another damn room because of visitors. At this point in life I don't give a shit if anyone comes to my house though, so there's that. 🤣
