My son is a USMC Captain, a battery commander heading out on deployment tonight. I have taken notes from this podcast to send to him to buoy up his resolve to continue being a great leader. This is what I get for putting a picture of Captain Maroni in his room 😂
Please tell your son thank you for his service! My son was a marine for 14 years. Another son is an officer in the Air Force and just returned home from a deployment to the Middle East. And I now have a grandson in the Air Force. I understand! We had the Title of Liberty hanging on our living room wall for many years while they were growing up. I love the war chapters but not because they are war chapters but great leaders. This is my second time through this particular pod cast and I’m loving it. If you haven’t already, you should listen to the dvd put out by the church back in the early 2000s titled ‘Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled’. It’s beautiful. I’ll add your son and his battery to my prayers.
Dr. Boren is an excellent teacher of the scriptures! I love how he draws examples from the lives of people in history, such as Churchill, and helps us apply them to the great Prophets in the Book of Mormon, and how we can then apply these examples in our own lives.
Great podcast! We the Church need leaders as yourself and guest to accept or run for political office both in local and especially Federal office. I'm 70 and what I see happening is people without righteous values making the laws of the land. Also people in and out of the church voting for these people and being decieved by their flattering words. It seems to me we are starting to live in the days of Amalickiah. I agree on a individual basis we are winning but as a people we don't win until the Savior returns. I recently participated in a 5k Freedom of Religion run ( in my wheelchair) on July 4th and was disappointed in the turn out from our ward and stake. Perhaps later when things get worse they will see the importance of action instead of just saying a prayer. It seems the opposition is always active.
Freedom of religion is important for all of us: Christian, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, Shintoists, etc. some people only want Christian and that is unchristian. I am glad nobody is persecuting anybody.
My wife and I are loving this episode. Thanks for helping us see the "war chapters" with new eyes. The insights and perspectives shared are edifying and instructive.
I somehow didn't catch this episode in its regular sequence, but the Lord "coincidentally" put it in my podcast lineup when I was driving for several hours yesterday. I felt the Spirit so powerfully as Brother Boren shared his mother's suggestion that he make his whole life a mission. What a beautiful reminder that as members of Christ's Church, we each have our own individual missions that we can choose to joyously fulfill throughout the entirety of our lives, regardless of our career choices or our circumstances. Right after I listened to this podcast, I learned that my granddaughter needs to cut her 18-month mission call short for medical reasons. I know the next few months are going to be challenging for her, and I am grateful to our merciful Heavenly Father for reserving this podcast in my lineup for a time when it would be fresh on my forgetful, grandmother mind. I know Satan will try to convince my granddaughter that she is a failure. Because of this podcast, I am prepared to offer this precious daughter of God a hopeful way of looking forward and taking the long view on this difficult experience. I love the lift I get from these podcasts. There are always profound gems in each one of them. Thank you, Hank and John, for your wonderful dedication and for making these inspiring podcasts a part of your life's missions.
Wow, wow, wow!! Loved this episode! Thank you, Dr. Boren for your insights. A fun side note … My husband and I and our children lived in Sandpoint Idaho from 2005 to 2010. We loved the area and loved your parents. Your father was our stake president for a time. Such good people and I can see that you are the same!
This lesson had a tremendous amount of values that can give us all values to stretch and reach for, goals to attain as we try to perfect ourselves. Thank you to all 3 of you.
Thanks for the focus on the great leadership skills we can learn from these chapters. Specifically, how we need to control our emotions so that we can be effective leaders.
At about 1:01 - I think alot of us on Sunday are simply tired. I always feel joy while I'm leading the music for the Primary children, but I'm always up and serving someone else at the same time. We're also so conservative - sometimes I think it would be fun if we were more the out loud "Amen" kind of people. It might help wake us up.
David you are awesome! I love how you teach and how tenderhearted you are! Never lose this tenderness. God bless you! I'm from MESA, AZ too!!! I love this town!!!
I am glad the New Testament has no wars,. Just our Lord Jesus teaching us to turn the other cheek, to forgive those that trespass against us, to love our enemies, to lay our lives for others.
All the guest of your podcast are brilliant and great. But never has a guest touched my heart with his insights as Dr.David Boren!!! I’m sooo grateful for what the Spirit has taught me and the team of 3 have spoken with power and clarity regarding our relationship and covenants in Christ and how we can look outward and bless the lives of others!!!!
My son served in Iraq and then signed up with the International Legion of Ukraine. There he fought and died. He had Preach My Gospel and his scriptures on the battle front. On his back pack he wrote out the title of liberty. I have another son in the US Army - OR Nurse - and served in the bishopric
I love the insights on leadership skills that have been taught in this episode, and hope I can apply them in all aspects of my life. Thank you. Watching from the Forest of Dean, UK
We knew Dr. David Boren long before he was a Doctor. Dr. Boren- do you remember the Wolcott family, we lived in Libby, Montana and in the Sandpoint Idaho Stake. Hank and John I seldom comment on your podcast, but we listen every week. We love your insights and your format. Thank you.
Howdy Walcotts. Of course I remember you and the other amazing families from Libby, Montana. We were just up in Northern Idaho and Northern Montana last week. Such a beautiful part of the world with a lot of amazing saints.
I love to think that Mormon, like any guy at any time in history, loved the war chapters. In fact, I think he loved the war chapters so much that he named his son Moroni. I like to think he also had other sons whom he named Helaman and Lehi 😅. I love to think that the impetus that the Lord used to have him include these chapters was his love of them 😊
I really appreciate all your work. I truly love this podcast! This has been increasingly difficult to listen to. The consistent JUDGEMENT of individuals who are not choosing the covenant path. Those are my children. Those are the children of others. I pray the judgements will be left out but that the doctrines and principles will still be the focus. Thank you for your devotion and all you do. Sincerely!
1:04 Brad Wilcox talked about Fast Sunday being the slowest Sunday, when I was investigating the church the Sister Missionaries told me the next Sunday would be a fast Sunday. I thought that meant all the meetings would be shorter to make it a fast Sunday!😅
Your statement, " Jesus didn't have an office..." also implies that He went to the people, the people didn't have to contact a secretary and make an appointment and wait... and wait. Our needs are often immediate and Jesus gave immediate succor. One other thing that struck me as I was reading in Alma 43, is when we kill someone, -- whether by an accident, in an act of self defence, or war, or murder - what happens between our spirits and the spirits of those who died because of us? I think there must be something because good people who kill someone go through PTSD through their lives, murders, sink lower and lower into the pits of a living Hell. I don't think there is any revelation about this, so whatever it is is pure conjecture. But if you have anything you would like to share, I would love to hear it. thanks for all you videos! 1
I think we have to be careful with the idea that there is no need to make appointments. We have to remember our church leaders have jobs, families, and are human. I learned a little while ago that I need to see my time as sacred. I was running myself ragged and realized I needed to color code my calendar. Also, some people need more help than I, or anyone else in the Church, can give. For those individuals, we need to encourage them to seek social services. We also need to not become the default problem-solver for others.
Finding joy in Christ is easy. But sometimes church is barely tolerable. (Think of those meetings where boring speakers ramble on forever). Makes me wish we had paid pastors who are professional speakers. I have visited other religious denominations for their sabbath worship and they are so much more engaging and joyful! Why do our meetings have to be so boring? Having said that I remember another quote by President Kimball saying that he had never had a boring sacrament meeting. I have.
In that Pres. Kimball talk he said that our sacrament meeting worship is our own responsibility. We aren't there to be entertained. We are there to worship God and Christ and renew our covenants. We can do that even with less than stellar speakers. I love that we all have opportunities to speak in church. The speakers learn the most with their preparation.
I’m sorry you are bored with boring speakers. It’s not their responsibility to entertain you. It’s your responsibility to find truth in what they are saying. Every speaker teaches truth to one degree or the other. Truth helps us to perfect ourselves.
Our fairly newly called Bishop, whose chapel is a couple of hours from our little Group as we are too small to be a branch, came with his wife and five children to preside over our Sacrament Meeting and visit us in our homes, miles away as well.
19:42 John your statement I think my wife treats me like she wants me to be. I could not change my husband but I could change me so I that could help him be who he could be..
The intro that you gave is exactly why I don't like the war chapters. I don't like the intrigue, the deception, the decoys and all of that stuff. It doesn't at all speak to my feminine nature. 💐
After getting past all that war stuff, here's what I got out of your presentation. Leadership, seeing the best in others. It reminds me of the conference talk imploring us to look at our children from the five Mile high view where we can really understand the magnificence of their spirits. Secondly making your life your mission. I had several reflections about that. Thank you so much for sharing that perspective and also finally.... The standard of Truth from the Hill Cumorah Pageant. Our family also took part in the book more pageant as cast members and I will never forget how we felt every day as we recited the standard of truth. Thanks for sharing that and helping me remember that most incredible and inspirational experience!
If you read with the prayerful thought of why did Mormon find this so important for me to read, you will be inspired with personal revelation that answers the question, just for you!
The Standard of Truth The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done.

Tell him thank you for his service and for keeping this country safe!😊
Thank you for raising a son that wants to be a positive influence in these the last days!
❤
Incredible reading through the lense of someone who studies leadership and the ultimate leader Jesus Christ, love it!
I will start my comments with I loved Brother Bytheways' impression of L Tom Perry brought a big smile to my soul. Now I'll continue to listen.
I'm a teacher getting ready to start a school year. I needed this more than you can imagine.
I learned this when I was 11 years old and really on it for my constant JOY!

Dr. David Boren was excellent. I hope you have him on again!!

Awesome!!! Great guest with no personal agenda. The spirit of the Holy Ghost was present throughout. Thank you

This is my Sunday School Extension I have learned so many great things here. Thanks a lot Brother Hank and John 🙏❤️
Thanks for a great episode. I enjoyed learning about leadership
Thanks for the focus on the great leadership skills we can learn from these chapters. Specifically, how we need to control our emotions so that we can be effective leaders.
"Today is part of eternity." Good stuff! ❤
He is my neighbor. Great person!! He is in my ward. His family is amazing!
Remarkable guest! So many valuable comments!
Magnificent discussion! So important for now. Loved the leadership discussion. Thanks for deepening my love of these chapters. We are all enlisted.
Hi David!!! Thanks for sharing your wisdom and strength. So good to hear your voice and see your smiling face!!
I'm so glad you were able to tune in Monay. All the best to you and your family.

Make your life a mission !! I love it!!!
That's the same mission my daughter is serving in right now! Yay, Washington DC South Mission. So fun.
I have loved this podcast and have listened to it twice taking copious notes! I enjoyed the new perspective of these chapters! Thank you!❤
You are all making the world a better pllace💙💙💙
This episode was absolutely incredible! 🤩 WOW WOW!!
One of your best podcasts as to analysis!
Great leaders should be action oriented - inspiration should lead to perspiration!
My son served in Iraq and then signed up with the International Legion of Ukraine. There he fought and died. He had Preach My Gospel and his scriptures on the battle front. On his back pack he wrote out the title of liberty.
I have another son in the US Army - OR Nurse - and served in the bishopric
I applaud you all for trying to answer that question.
Excellent! Truly.
SO GOOD!!
I love the story of sheep ♥️♥️
Always great
Thank you
I love the insights on leadership skills that have been taught in this episode, and hope I can apply them in all aspects of my life. Thank you.

Of course it is traumatic . It has to be . That is why people get ptsd . But to defend yourself may have a different feeling . Who really knows .
Jesus doesn’t need an office because he already. Knows everything . But Jesus did want records kept of baptisms.
I think we have to be careful with the idea that there is no need to make appointments. We have to remember our church leaders have jobs, families, and are human. You need a 10 second rewind option. I make so many notes I have to back and forth.
If you happen to watch this on TH-cam, double tapping on the left side of your phone screen will rewind 10 seconds. Hope this helps
Where do I find the Standard of Truth written out??
I’ve copied one down below.
1:09:09 speaking about preaching Christ at a time of war, a world war 2 veteran said to me once, “there are no atheists in the trenches”.
John, could you include a list of the titles you have given to each of the chapters in this week’s lesson? Thanks!
Brother Bytheway mentioned he loved in the movie when they hand weapons back to Zerahemnah. Which movie episode is it?
Finding joy in Christ is easy. But sometimes church is barely tolerable. (Think of those meetings where boring speakers ramble on forever). There's another quote, I think by Pres Eyring....if the talk is boring, tell yourself a talk of the same subject.
I’m sorry you are bored with boring speakers. It’s not their responsibility to entertain you. It’s your responsibility to find truth in what they are saying. Every speaker teaches truth to one degree or the other. Truth helps us to perfect ourselves.
How can I view the transcript for each podcast?
Just head over to followHim.co
The standard of truth- is that from Captain Moroni in the book of mormon? Or is that from Joseph Smith?
I’ve copied one down below.
Joseph Smith

The leadership principles could also be applied as parenting principles. Parents after all are leaders.
Mom is a calling!
JESUS DID NOT HAVE AN OFFICE BECAUSE HE WAS AMONGST THE PEOPLE
BROOOOOO!!!!!!😱😱😱😱😱😳😳😳😳😳😭😭😭😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Podria preguntarle a Dr. Boren si su papa es Hugo Boren. El fue quien me bautizo en Guatemala.
Hugo es mi tio y un gran hombre de Dios.
👍best👍
