Even though i dislike the Republican Party and many of it's members, i would gladly have voted for him in 1988. 1989-1992 was a pretty awesome time to be around, and he made it a bit more awesome. Bush Senior, in my books, was basically Reagan's finisher, accomplishing whatever was left to be done. The main reason he lost to Clinton was because he outlived his leadership and could no longer drive a new vision.

It is incredibly hard for a single party to control the white house for more than 8 years, let alone 12. I think Bush Sr. deserves some respect for closing out the Cold War in the best manner he could have possibly closed it - and the first Gulf War was perhaps the smoothest conflict the middle east has EVER seen. His son, on the other hand - was incredibly terrible. From my point of view, both Bush H.W and Clinton were pretty good presidents. Even though i dislike the Republican Party and many of it's members, i would gladly have voted for him in 1988. 1989-1992 was a pretty awesome time to be around, and he made it a bit more awesome. FYI, 1982 WASN'T Reagan's last year in office. When Reagan left in 1989, unemployment was at 5.5%. Reagan had a simple and great philosophy: reducing tax rates restored the incentive to produce and create jobs, and getting the government out of the way allowed people to become entrepreneurs. From there, the free marketplace operated as it should. Yes, Reagan DID submit a balanced budget, but it was never PASSED because of the Democrat majority in the House of Representatives, who were ignorant.
