    Booking ahead let's you relax and take worry away from finding bed at your intended destination that day.years ago took the idea best plan was best plan but now reaching 71 yrs young I now prefer knowing I've a bed of my choice for that stage.im of on 26 th May for 3 weeks on Frances from SJPDP to Astorga my 18th Camino probably my last.

      Yes, I agree that booking ahead made me relax into my days more- I didn't have to stress or even think about where I might stay! I hope your upcoming Camino is the best one yet (your 18th Camino, how amazing and wonderful!)

    Thanks for yet another informative video. Im walking my first Camino this year, or rather planning three Camino's from during the year... and have been binge-watching your amazing videos for the past weeks. Valuable insights and highly addictive, thank you🤗

      Thanks for watching, Brian!! Watching, and then creating, TH-cam videos has helped get me through some of this pandemic. Happy planning and here's hoping that your first Camino is an amazing experience! (which, for sure, it will be). Which route will you be walking?

      @@NadineWalks I've been hiking for many years, but never a Camino route, so I'm very excited.
      In April I'll start with Primitivo and extent to Finisterre and Muxia, all booked. June/July i plan to do the whole Frances likely booking from day to day. Beginning of October I'll take a short one, likely either Baztan or San Salvador. Would have loved to do Aragones after seeing your videos, but it seems very complicated to get to the start point, so that will be another time.
      I likely do videos myself, having been so inspired watching others on TH-cam (especially during the pandemic) and find it I good way to prolong the sensation of a trip.

    Last night I almost bought a plane ticket to walk the Camino and then paused as I wasn't sure the situation with being able to access albergues, what was open, etc. Watching your video eases those concerns.

      I'm so happy to hear that Karla, from my experience and everything I'm hearing from pilgrims walking now, most albergues are open and thriving!

    Thanks Nadine for another great video. I have another perspective that doesn’t often get mentioned. On my two previous Caminos, I have brought my iPhone with a local SIM card, BUT, left it turned off and packed away. I took a waterproof Nikon Coolpix camera for photography. It’s very small and takes okay photos and video. Not as good as the iPhone, but, and here’s the thing, I was not tempted to check messages or email etc. when taking a photo or just out of habit. This strategy was a planned technology ‘de-tox’. It worked well for me, helped maintain the silence and stay fixed in the moment. I believe it enhanced the experience. We didn’t book any accommodation but could still call a taxi if caught out or injured. ✌️❤️🙏🇦🇺

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a great perspective Jeremy! And a tempting idea (though I've loved photography for a long time and I like the quality of images that I can get with my iPhone, and it's just so darn convenient!) On my first Camino I was much more disconnected and it was great. Now I'm working on a balance... but it's very true that when the phone is in your hand, there are dozens of things that can distract you. Out of sight and out of mind and it's just you and the path. Which is a beautiful way to experience a very long walk. :)

    Hi Nadine, as always your insight is valuable and balanced. Personally, come late Sept-Oct when i hope to get out, I may be using my bivvy bag and camping equipment a little more than anticipated, I'm too willful I think to be disciplined enough to book ahead. Thanks for another top video.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, this is another good option!! (and one that I didn't touch on at all, whoops!) It IS a different experience to book ahead, and bringing some camping equipment would give a pilgrim some additional options. (as an aside, I've been curious about bivvy bags...)

    • @rhunl
      @rhunl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NadineWalks If I'm honest, it's probably not for the faint hearted if you don't bring any camping equipment along with it. It's the balance of prioritising the flexibility of being able to stop where i really want to if albergues aren't available, vs the convenience and comfort of committing to a daily mileage. I probably lean towards the former, and hope the day without a shower won't be too harsh on my fellow pilgrims :))

      In Castro Urdiales, I slept in a tent in Albergue garden because they were full. They had some old pre-pitched tents set up ready, had a great night's sleep, would gladly do every night if it were an option. May be a way for albergues to go??

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@martinsmith891 I remember seeing those tents when I passed by the albergue! I ended up walking on, but would have slept in one of those tents if I'd decided to stop there... I love that they had that option for pilgrims!

    Hi Nadine, thank you for so valuable information on the booking. I will do my first Camino September this year. I have been planning it for 2019 but it did not work due to work. Then Covid happen. I have seen many videos, but found yours very useful. I'm going to be solo and thought that I might give myself a bit of "will be, what will be". Just trying my luck with finding a bed. Booking app probably would be my favourite way of booking, if needed.

    Hello. Do some people over book, as in they might take two reservations in case one gets dropped? Do they need to pay in advance? If you book on line can you pay with a credit card before leaving for the walk? Have some people given rooms to others, can you do that if they continue to walk on? What happens if your late, do they hold yiur room for you? Oh and if they do 're open beds after a certain time for no shows, does that happen? My sister and I are planning on walking from Le Puy leaving mid August. We 're celebrating our 60s strong.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a walk on the Chemin will be wonderful! Most pilgrims reserve one or two nights ahead when walking in France. Booking the whole trip ahead of time is possible, but it can get complicated if you need to change your plans. Before I left for the Chemin du Puy, I reserved my first three or four nights (I mostly used email to communicate with the gîtes, and then paid when I arrived). From there, I called ahead the day before. If you can’t speak French or are nervous about calling, the hosts in the place you’re staying are happy to call for you and reserve for the next night or nights. If you know that you won’t be arriving at a place where you have a reservation, it is important to let them know!

    Thanks for your videos! I’m starting my Camino in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. I’ll have a hand bag that would like to send to Santiago. Is that possible? How should I do and how much it would cost? Thank you :)

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here's a link to some instructions on how to send/store luggage in Santiago, a service that Ivar (from the Camino forum) provides! www.casaivar.com/luggage-storage-in-santiago-de-compostela/ I did this once and it worked out really great. It IS a lot cheaper to send through the post office once you get to Spain though, sending it from SJPD will cost more, though I'm not sure quite how much (one option could be to use one of the day-to-day shipping services to send your handbag along from SJPD to Roncesvalles, or maybe to Pamplona, and once there you can ship it to Santiago. Here is an option in SJPD: www.expressbourricot.com/luggage-transport/)

    Thank you so much for this informative stuff:) Can i ask what was your experience with booking a Bus? Or can you just like hop on at one place and pay in the Bus? (Camino frances) Gracias!Buen camino😊👏

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t taken the bus too much when walking the Camino Francés, though I think it’s pretty easy! Gronze.com shows the towns/villages with transportation options, and I like using the app Omio to search for buses and trains (and it’s easy to buy a ticket there, too).

    Hi, I did the Frances in 2019 and want to go back this year, is it possible to do the Camino in 2022 without having taken the covid vaccine? Great videos, good info.

    • @NadineWalks

      I think it is possible, though depending where you are traveling from there might be some restrictions or need to show proof of vaccine. Things are changing a lot so keep your eye on travel requirements for when you are planning to go!
