  • Wanted one of these since I saw it in a book when I was 10 years old way back in 1978.....better late than never. I also had a strange connection to the owner of Charter Arms in my teens...............

    My Henry never failed me and shoots great groups with that peep sight!

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, peep sights confuse the hell out of me because there is nothing to really line the front site blade up on. It’s just kind of floating out there but somehow they wind up very accurate.

    My mom just found this rifle in one of her closets and gave it to me. It was my step father's. The magazine is missing, it might be in the house somewhere. Your video was very informative. Going find a magazine for it and clean it.

    Just one correction. There is such a thing as an assault rifle. The FN SCAR literally stands for special operations forces combat assault rifle.
    Also the French FAMAS stands for Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne, lit.
    'Assault rifle from the Saint-Étienne Weapon Factory’

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. If the only feature that makes it an assault rifle is it’s name, that’s not a feature at all.
      I would love to have a scar 17 in .308…..so much money!

    • @theconcernedcitizenusa
      @theconcernedcitizenusa 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the feature that makes them assault rifles is the selector from semi to 3 round burst or full auto. @@MilsurpGarage

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I disagree. I don’t think that a selector switch is in the definition either. I think to define an assault rifle is an action, not a physical feature. The action is when politicians want to ban a rifle, they call it an assault rifle, then put whatever they want into that category, be it semi automatic, scopes, hand grips,muzzle end devices, whatever fits the narrative that demonizes.

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If politicians only wanted to ban the Scar and the Famas I would say you were correct but what the current administration is considering an assault rifle has already changed drastically in the six months since your comment and will continue to broaden until you are defending yourself with a slingshot.

    Just bought one of the charter arms AR-7 not to long ago. I'm happy with been very reliable. Shot out to 100 yards with it accurate enough.

    They made a side plate as well that you remove the screw on the side plate it goes on replace the screw and then you have a scope mount. You will not be able to fit it back in the stock with the attachment.
    This is hands down one of my favorite 22s of all time probably because it was my first 22.
    Christmas morning 1984 I opened the box and there’s just a gunstock, my dad said next year you’ll get the rest of the gun. Lol. Unknown to me at the time it was a survival rifle and was all contained in the stock.
    Did a lot of camping and backpacking as a family so it was a perfect first firearm. I am hoping to find an original charter arms copy and add it back into my collection.
    Thanks for sharing this video brings back some great memories. And you have a new subscriber so win win👍🏻

    Ok I can’t help but add another comment, mine always worked better with Remington ammo or any round nose ammunition/ Winchester ammunition due to the squared point constantly had failures to feed and stove pipe jams, about every other shot but a simple ammo change solved that problem

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s so wacky that one day I find likes one ammo, the next day at likes different ammo, the next day, a different ammo.

    I love that gun qs i believe its one of less than 5 in Zimbabwe. Inherited from orh dad who passed away 2022 and he was 72. Unusually for an African he had quite a knowledge for firearms unlike many jis generation

      There are certain ones purported to be interchangeable and some not depending on manufacturer. I tried to research it once and it gave me a headache. Bottom line, your rolling the dice if your purchase isn’t returnable.

    • @MilsurpGarage
      @MilsurpGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, the receiver IS the firearm, everything else is just a “part”. Your better off buying a whole rifle and keep your parts as spares.

  • @thomasholohan4090

    Note 1: I watch all your videos to the end. I have no doubt that you would do very well on any podcast.
    Note 2: I owned a Charter AR 7 at one time. The appeal was portability/"stowability". But I didn't find it to be as useful a rifle as I had hoped. I did not like the fact that the "bolt" holding the receiver to the stock was plastic; my first one cracked and had to be replaced, and I lost confidence in its sturdiness. I was bothered a bit by the asymmetry of the grip, a personal issue I know, but annoying notwithstanding. Reliability was adequate, but nowhere near that of a 10-22. For a takedown rifle, I replaced it with a stainless barreled Marlin Papoose, not as condensed a package but much stronger.
