All camera reviews should just be this simple question 'how well can i see the moon?'

How did you zoom in so close? I have the same camera (digital zoom turned off) and I can only fill the frame. Were you using a lens doubler? I have one, but it makes the picture so soft that I might as well just double it digitally.
Use a tripod, set him on video mode with digital zoom on, zoom slowly in and let do the soft in the camera his work.

Change your settings and you will have it. Google this and you will see "60x optical zoom(up to 120x* with Dynamic Fine Zoom)".
