Therefore the number 4 is avoided if possible. Some buildings in Asia omit floor numbers and room numbers containing the number 4. On the other hand, the number 8 (八) baat is considered to be good luck, because it rhymes with the character (發) meaning prosper. Therefore the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing began on August 8, 2008 at 8 minutes and 8 seconds past 8 pm local time.
