    This banjo is by far my favorite banjo. The sound of it just puts a smile on my face every time I play it. I know it's not the most expensive and there are "better" banjos out there, even by deering, but this one just has the best overall sound that makes me want to keep playing it. It also has a blond neck and is sooooo smooth to the touch that others don't have, and I think that adds to my enjoyment and desire to play it. I wish more banjos had blond necks.

    My Dearing Good Time is worn to the nub. I play it more than my expensive banjos by ten fold.

      For the record, I know Tony, a very nice dude, who I didn't realize played banjo.

    Hi, thank you for the informational video. I have never played any instrument before. Would a Goodtime 2 be good to learn with for an absolute beginner?

      Yes, I think it would!

      If this is any help, I recently purchased one and it's been great! I'm a beginner to banjo, and this is probably the best that you'll find for beginners for its price. There were other more expensive options that I considered before settling for the Goodtime 2, assuming that they would be of higher quality, but I'm quite glad that I chose the one that I did. The sound is bright and strong, and the blonde look (something that I wasn't fond of initially) eventually turned into something that I quite like, its very unique! If you're going to be playing with a capo, just make sure to install spikes yourself, though. This type of tuning (guitar tuning) is easier to use than typical planetary tuning, though it will be odd to adjust to other banjoes' tuning if this is your beginner banjo and you plan on buying others in the future. There's a more expensive banjo from Deering, an Artisan version of the Goodtime 2 that comes with spikes pre-installed and planetary tuning, if you want to check it out, but it's very expensive and, honestly, the regular ol' Goodtime 2 is pretty much the same.

      It also doesn't have a tone ring, if that bothers you.

    it's nearly got a nice bell chime is that a sign that it will come in when it ages a bit,
    [ like a nice acoustic guitar. (or is that just the resonator needing a slight tweak)
    so is that a stupid question? i don't know.
    or does it just come down to acquiring a good pick technique
    and a feel for the strings as per the course (years of practice).
    does string gauge effect the tone/voice i do, wonder.
    or is it even "possible" to mod/bump it up through small inexpensive adjustments,
    swapping out bits and bobs to get a hidden gem.
    and turn the pigs ear into a silk purse tra, la, la whoosh abracadabra
    yes! i know, i'm bonkers
    just a query ? i guess, (scratching his chin) ]
    you see there's one on ebay here in the UK and i'm tempted to put a bid on the instrument

    Is it short scale ?

    • @KeizerHedorah
      @KeizerHedorah 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not what is referred to as a long neck banjo, but I don't think it's shorter than a normal banjo

      If you have long arms
      Get a long neck ?
      If you have short arms
      Get a shot neck ?
      So what is the standard measurements to determine which one I need , What I mean is how do measure your arm length to determine which to get ?

    • @KeizerHedorah
      @KeizerHedorah 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@keithclark486 the long neck banjo is able to play in more keys easier than a normal banjo, the lower keys specifically is why it was made. I'd say unless your arms are abnormally short you'd should try it out, though some have said they've gotten those other keys on a regular length banjo using various setups and strings so you might look into both and see what seems simpler for you, apparently alot of longneck owners end up capoing the thing most the time to the point where it may as well be a normal length one. I personally enjoy the low sound of the long necks

      Banjos are more expensive than guitars. You’d have to buy used and even then that’s going to be really difficult.
