IRVIN, REED, GIVINS: ACROSS THE MIDDLE

  • Old-school clip-show from the early 90s. Ernest Givins, Andre Reed and Michael Irvin tell it like it is: Trying to not get jacked-up going across the middle!
    Also, no Big Hits highlight reel would be complete without at least one clip of the human bean-bag himself, Don Beebe, getting KTFOd. Spot the Beebe kayo!
    Hey, and it's nice to see some clips of Mike from back before the pipe scrambled his brain.
    Remember kids: CRACK IS WHACK!

    ernest givins and his last td shown here, the one with the mortal jump, is the reason because i started to be a fan of the houston oilers' run&shoot from here in italy.

    I watched so many of Ernest Givins' college games live and up close and I'm telling you he was freaking maniacal on punt returns ... I watched sometimes where punts would hang long enough that several would-be tacklers would be held up and just weighting on the ball to get in his hands so they could crush him ... most normal folk would call fair catch or let the ball go past them, but somehow he would catch it and angle out of things and manage some yards. Though he only played two years in Louisville, I'd be willing bet his All-Purpose Yards in a single season probably is tops for the university. He was most definitely one of the few bright lights that year (1985) for a team that went 2-9.

    Andre Reed was my favorite catch the ball over the traffic receiver of all time. He had incredible hands. I remember playing John Madden 92 on Sega Genesis and feeding him all the time from Jim Kelly. He'd score like 6 touchdowns in a game sometimes. Not including scores from Thomas, Lofton, Beebe, and Mc Keller. Go Bills! 4 Time AFC Champions in a row!

    Wish I could find more footage of Ernest Givens on here. Ironically when I start to type Ernest one of the first things to come up is "Ernest Scared Stupid"

    Michael Irvin 12 Years 1988 - 1999 Rec: 750 Yds: 11,904 Avg: 15.9 TD: 65 2007
    Andre Reed 16 Years 1985 - 2000 Rec: 951 Yds: 13,198 Avg: 13.9 TD: 87 -- The only reason Reed had "better numbers" is because Michael had to retire due to injury.

    Great receivers, all of them. This shows how dominant and physical Irvin was. Seems like he just shrugs off a lot of those hits.

    i think the irony of this video is that each of these teams they played for are now not looking so hot the bills being the worst off. but back then they were the best.

    It's interesting to see that the NFL as a league ITSELF used to promote this part of the game and glorify it with VHS tapes like "NFL's Greatest Hits", "NFL Rocks", etc. Just like the pregame show segment on ESPN that used to be called "Jacked Up". Everyone knew it was modern day gladiators and took it for what it was. Now all these ambulance chasing lawyers and ex-players want to try and grab money from the league so that's why it will be NFFL (National FLAG Football League) in a couple of years. I'm glad I got to watch the sport in its prime before all this happened.

    • @DLBlckwl
      @DLBlckwl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      5 years after your comment and it still hasn't turned into the "NFFL". There are plenty of exciting text-book tackles that target the midsection, between the chest area and hips. Don't need helmet-to-helmet or helmet-to-knee hits. Defenseless-receiver hits are off the table too. Yet NFL is still thriving. See you in another 5 years.

    Ernest Givings, seemed to be one of if not the skinniest players in the league. But he had to be the most courageous. How many times did you see him get laid out while going over the middle by people much bigger than him....Singletary, Millen etc.Yet he always got up...or at least tried to.The hit, he took from Bud Brown of the Dolpohins( on the back of his head while already down) had to have been one the dirtiest plays ever. I salute Ernest Givings.

    Reed missed time during those 16 years due to injury as well. Otherwise he woulda had even better numbers. He had one season where he played only 3 games cause he tore his hamstring. They were both great.

    Thanks for the hit at 3:08, I have been looking for that on her for a min...that was against the eagles, and the build up had been how will you guys stop the run and shoot offense of the Houston Oilers...the Eagles DBs said we are going to let them catch the ball...and then make them pay...and thats what they did. at 3:08 check it out.
