Stefan Wul is an amazing french SF writer. He wrote some classical SF book like Niourk, The Orphan of Perdide, Oms by the Dozen (Fantastic Planet), Odyssey Under Control, Noô, The Temple of the Past.
That was a surprise. I thought I recognized the title, but in fact I don't think I've ever seen anything about this movie before in my life. The Moebius-based animation looks great, and the plot is bizarre and complex. Thanks, RNG, for showing me something new in the world of SF movies. 😀

The art and style is amazing.
Fantastic Planet warped my mind when I came across it on cable as a little kid. The animation style came across like a fever dream and the subject matter was too bizarre for me to comprehend when I was around ten years old. I can't even look at the artwork from the movie now, it's like having a memory of a bad LSD hallucination or something.
I came across Time Masters on a rare movie site just a few days ago, I'm going to have to watch it now. It looks extremely French. America has an animation style, Japan has a unique animation style, not that many people talk about France's extremely unique animation style. You can always tell French sci-fi from just a few frames of a movie. Far more so than sci-fi from most other European countries.
Interesting theory on different art styles. I think you are right. Now I want to dive deeper into French animation. :)
