    We had this feature in After Effects CS6 in 2012. So we've been waiting for it to be reintroduced for over 9 years.
    The rendering works, according to your information in the Reder Queue of After Effects.
    If you look at the last After Effects versions up to the 2021 version, only a very limited codec use is possible in this render queue.
    The more important codecs are reached via the media encoder, so the whole thing is a cheat pack. Unfortunately,
    ADOBE has still not managed to interpret the DNxHR 444 codec correctly with the new AE 2021,
    so that gama shifts occur in the workflow.
    That's not great for me yet, I hope for AE 2022.

    • @LearnHowToEditStuff
      @LearnHowToEditStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The original "multi-frame" was running multiple instances of AE, which i think was coincidentally not as efficient... Also, why not use ProRes4444? It's been a minute since I've done side my side codec tests, but I feel like ProRes is a good 2nd option for you...

    • @charleswaldorf9640

      @@LearnHowToEditStuff Large productions that many different artists
      work on are more often made with MXF containers and,
      for example, the DNxHR 444 codec.
      In addition, TV stations like to work with MXF XDcam HD, these things are not supported as well.
      The renderer of CS6 has always been faster on professional workstations than what has come from ADOBE up to now (without beta).
      ADOBE is more specialized in laptops and I-MACs.
      I mean machines with dual processors and 4x graphics cards,
      in which DaVinci renders with multiple real-time.

    • @Terjay
      @Terjay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Large productions have their own workflows and usually use render farms that output image sequences. And usually one would export a master file and do any deliverables with that instead of trying to export them directly.

    "Time is money" is the reason some of us including me have stuck to CC 2014 for so long due to being the last version with built-in multicore rendering. So great they are adding it back finally but it should have never disappeared to begin with. Oh well patience has been rewarded and the newer versions have added so little vs how much they've taken out with multicore processing rendering so it's always been the easiest call to hold off from upgrading especially if rendering videos daily, finally I will be able to upgrade though. :P EDIT: Does seem a bit unoptimized still though judging from those results. Using CC2014 with multicore processing vs CC2015 - CC2020 usually at the very least gives some quadruple improvements, sometimes a bit more but yea around 20 - 25 mins vs ~1 hr or something for music video template I use.

    • @melomaniakjm
      @melomaniakjm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but you can't stay with CC2014. Lots of plugins don't work.

    • @RPGWiZaRD
      @RPGWiZaRD 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melomaniakjm I haven't encountered any plugins I've needed that didn't work with CC2014 and upgrading would be my very very last resort. On the opposite side, I'd say content creators have switched too lightly towards newer CC versions so Adobe have gotten away with it for too miniscule changes. Should have put down the foot harder to force Adobe to do something about it sooner. The new function what I've seen so far cannot compare to the old multicore rendering performance so I'm not personally ready to switch yet.

    2X speed up on a 3950X? Don't get me wrong, cutting your time in half is impressive , but you'd think with that many cores it'd be more.

    • @LearnHowToEditStuff
      @LearnHowToEditStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2X(or more) speed on rather complicated projects I was finding, but for general mograph type stuff i was seeing 4x or higher. I think multi-frame rendering is REALLY gonna be something when it get integrated into previewing in After Effects.

    • @patfish3291
      @patfish3291 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 3960X and with MFR on the Adobe Test- Project rendered around 3 x faster directly in After Effects (CPU at 100%) ...But when I tried Media Encoder I gor even faster results without MFR!!!!🤭 ...and the CPU went in Media Encoder never over 30%🤭 ...I guess there are still some Problems with MFR 🙄

    • @GuyVanBogart
      @GuyVanBogart 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is that all the effects they've been moving to the GPU over the years has made it so it's not as directly related to core count. An indicator of this, is that they're not calling it the old name, "multi-processing," and have instead opted to call it the more generic, "multi-frame rendering," because it likely uses multiple threads to queue up frames on the GPU and CPU resources that usually go unused.

    • @patfish3291
      @patfish3291 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GuyVanBogart Don't think the frames are really queued up between GPU and CPU because my 24 CPU cores worked in the Adobe MFR test project all the time at 100% and the GPU only from time to time (only when a GPU Effects is applied?), was mostly at 0-10% and never went over 40%.

    So groundbreaking and mind blowing to make your software do something it should have been doing for the past decade...and this is only a 2x speedup when there's always at least 75% cpu headroom when rendering. I think I remember that it used to do this until Adobe took it away for some reason. I can't say I'm not a little pissed that I've needed to do workarounds with multiple instances of AE and use unreliable render farm software. If Adobe wants to impress me they can refund thousands of dollars I've spent over the years losing valuable work time waiting for renders when they could have been on this issue years ago. And they can also work on AE chewing through all 128 gb of my ram every few minutes.

    We used to have this in both preview and final render mode back in CS6. I never "upgraded" since CS6 for this exact reason. When you have up to 32x cores available, there is no competition between CS6 and CC. A shot that would take 10 minutes to render in CC, renders in under a minute in CS6. Adobe is idiotic for willfully depriving its customers of this feature for this long.
