    My son (Keegen who will be a freshman bowler at Newman next year) did his first regional a couple weeks ago in Wichita. He wanted to see where he kind of stood with other college bowlers in the area as well as some of the top bowlers in the region. He just missed cut by 26 as well just missed breaking even for the day (-36)...which were the goals for the day. So even though it was a loss it was a win. It showed him he is able to compete at a level higher than high-school, hold his own against older bowlers, etc.
    So for us it was a win.
    Congratulations on the dub and we'll see you when we see you in ITC....

    Great video and congrats on the win. Use to bowl regionals in the south region back in 2005 to 2010. I never did them for the money because I had a full time job to support me bowling them. Use to love bowling them because of the competition and the pretty hard oil pattern. Some people did get a little aggravated when the national tour guys showed up. They acted like the automatically took a check from all the other bowlers. I didn't bother me when the national tour guys showed up. I didn't make alot of money bowling regionals but it was a fun little get away every weekend we bowled and I enjoyed meeting the locals. Regionals in my opinion are for guys like me. Don't have the talent to bowl for a living full time and want to bowl some good competition. I do like the 1 out of 3 payout. Love regionals because it is a lot of fun and I don't really have to take time off of work to bowl them.

    I love seeing these types of videos. My only feedback would be the following: 1.) Remove the cost of things you'd have to do at home, even if you didn't bowl a regional. Example, you have to eat at home also. While you may not eat fast food at home, you still have some sort of food expense. I think the cost should be limited to entries, gas, and hotel, probably. Those are the "added" expenses beyond just living your life. 2.) I loved AJ's response that regionals are good tools to sharpen your skills. As someone who is not on the national tour but does bowl regionals, I look at it this way. Even if I don't cash, I am paying for entertainment and experience. On the experience side, you may pay coaches to help with your game, and pay to open bowl, but it's also really good to gain experience in this type of setting. Bowl on these patterns, against tough competition, in this type of environment. On the entertainment side, I also enjoy bowling tournaments, more than going to a concert, or a play, or whatever other "fun" activity you might otherwise pay to do (even if you would pay a lot less). If you don't cash a lot, it may be hard to sustain bowling a bunch of them, but get out and bowl some. It's totally worth it to me! Keep up the awesome content!

    I would say that lodging is probably the biggest expense when traveling aside from the entry fee. If you can find someone to stay with for free that really helps out. Congrats on another great win. You're really making a name for yourself Pakky! I'm cheering for you.

      @tackywacky99 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rickst3r it's the second PBA regional I've bowled. The only way you're going to learn to bowl on pba events is by bowling them. I'm not just saying the oil patterns. They put out more volume to compensate for rev rate. The way bowlers break the lane down is far different based on experience. You're running into plenty more urethane. I mean just what the guys said in the video. But exaggerated way more than you would think. The gap between an amateur competition bowler and a PBA bowler is huge because and it's because of knowledge and experience. Unless you have a serious sponsor or a bunch of money laying around, I would go into the PBA with low expectations and an open mind to learn. Even the best hall of famers spend years barely winning or cashing anything. Like parker bohn

    • @PIEDUDE17
      @PIEDUDE17 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rickst3r Wild to think that if you're cashing, it's not enough to break even if you have a lodging fee much less the time I'd have to take off work. Unless you can drive there in a day or have someone that will let you stay with them in the area I'd say bowling regionals isn't worth it at all. Much rather look for non-PBA tournaments with a bigger prize fund and the same entry fee... 2500 vs. 10-15k first place is a big difference.

    Your car expenses aren’t limited to just gasoline. There is tire and brake wear, and regular mileage based maintenance (oil/filter changes etc.). To be more accurate something alone the lines of .65/mile is a better estimate. Food is not really associated with the tournament either, you’ll eat even if you’re not in a tournament. What’s missing is lodging expenses. Since you won, of course you’re gonna end up way ahead, but I’d be interested in a more accurate estimate of your expenses.

    I think for regionals it comes down to what other organizations offer too. For example, in the New England region, regionals only happen 1-2 times a year. Lot of bowlers rely on NEBA as the highest competition.
    One exception I will make, this past weekend there was NEBA and the 8k event. The 8k is Charlie Mitchell’s annual event where the winner gets $8,000 and top 8 guaranteed $1,000. There were a couple of pros there (Arturo, Martell, Joey Pants) but the competition there was really good and next year’s event is going to be big. But NEBA to pay $1k or Bayside 8k you see a difference. Even with a regional the difference is only $5 between a PBA regional ($245) and the 8k entry ($250). Prize Fund Money and experience are the two biggest things for me

    Packy, your balance at the line and ability to repeat shots appear to be getting better and better. In my opinion it is not financially worth it to bowl regionals, except for the top regional bowlers, or people who are well off financially. However, it may be worth it to bowl some regionals for practice, experience, and competition, if you can afford the entry fees, travel costs, and time. If my memory is correct, I believe that you had two regional wins and a third place finish in 2022 in a short period of time. I think that you have a chance to be top lefty in points and or average next year on the tour. In the 1980s and early 90s I frequently bought good sandwiches from home to tournaments in my area. It would cost three times as much to feed me, as you on the road, if I bowled tournaments today. Who can eat one sandwich for a meal. I would need two, with a side, and sometimes three if the sandwiches are small.

    • @notonyourlife7939
      @notonyourlife7939 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a rather myopic assessment. It depends entirely on other variables...if you happen to live across town from the tournament, then yes... you can eat at home for no more than you'd normally spend on a day's sustenance. But if you're traveling any significant distance and staying in a hotel as many regional bowlers have to do, then cooking your own meals isn't really an option. And brown-bagging several day's worth of sandwiches, while possible, both those sandwiches and their appeal will get old real quick. You'll end up eating out at some point. And if you're not gonna count that as an expense, then you're just deluding yourself.

    • @heftygainz
      @heftygainz ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but you eat differently on the road, or at least most people do. You have to count that expense. Most people are saving way more money at home grocery shopping vs eating out / fast food. If you live on fast food at home well then I dont know what to tell you lol.

Plus even if you dont eat out a decent steak on the BBQ and other meal ingredients could well offset 3 of those fast food items that Packy ate. I guess what I am saying I dont think eating at home is any cheaper than eating on the road and unless Packy seldom eats at home then I agree with some others about not counting the food.

      5) Enter every local or semi- local tournament you can find, and keep doing it until you start winning.
      6) Be realistic about your skills, or lack thereof.
      7) Acknowledge the fact that of all the guys on the national tour, there are 6 or 8 who actually make enough money from bowling that they don't have to do anthing else if they don't want to. But unless you really are the next Belmo or EJ Tackett, be prepared to have a day job the rest of the year if you want to eat. There's an earnings list available online, and you can see what these guys actually make... I'd post the link, but youtube doesn't allow that. At the cost of travel (airline tickets and or fuel) and hotel it isn't worth it these days unless you have a lot of disposable money.

    Congrats on the W.
    If you are lucky enough to know someone, like you did for this one, lodging for the tournament can eat a lot of your profit or really put you negative.
    Still I agree that you can learn more at regional.

    Packy that Little packy man is NOT any type of put down it refers to Little Joe from KOKOMO! since your the PBA national champion its now little Packy man from KOKOMO. that was a GREAT achievement you SuperPackyMan did, WOW!

    Hey Packy, could you please make a video/tutorial of how to control your hook? like, how to hook less or more, I play 2 handed with purple hammer (speed about 22 kph) and it over hooks each time

    Yes because you will win it all. Your sponsors don’t pay entry fees?

    • @TheHouseBowling
      @TheHouseBowling  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No they don’t, some of the best bowlers in the world get paid salaries instead and that would be factored in as to paying them more than they would ever spend in entry fees

      @@TheHouseBowling I don’t understand the PBA they seem to do nothing to promote it’s players. When I watch bowling on tv you almost never see the players personalities then when I watch bowlers on TH-cam the tour is filled with great personalities fun guys. Why is the PBA not promoting this better? TH-cam shows how popular bowling is and the PBA needs to invest better in you guys it’s not fair for them to rely on self advertising. I hope they realize quickly they are squandering a chance to grow this game. Everyone I’ve got watching your videos agree as well. Bowling is on verge of blowing up PBA needs to push this forward. I know tons of nba and nfl players are huge fans the pba needs to market its stars current and ones on their way up. Keep up the amazing work. In the 8 months I’ve followed your channel you’ve changed your confidence is deservedly thru the roof. I want to see you guys as household names again. Keep up the good work.

    The pba west region is heading to Hawaii next. Not drivable from the mainland so not sure that stop would be worth bowling (at least). The trip alone without the bowling already puts you deep in the hole financially (if you're coming from the mainland). But i guess if the bowling doesnt go well then you're in Hawaii at least, lol.

    I would say to halve your food costs when doing your calculations. You have to eat whether you're bowling/traveling or not. You just would not be paying as much for food...maybe...as you are on the road.
