@@thedeparturebrief, the owner of that specific area did not want to spend money on construction leaving the monument unfinished for almost 30 years. However, recently, the Armenian government was able to negotiate and pay a significant amount of money to take over that area. Now, they are discussing potential design ideas with architects from France.
The construction on top of Cascade is the continuation. It was never finished, but now we have an architectural project to build those parts too. Welcome to Armenia, happy to have you here.
Most of Armenians are very hospitable people, even though I live in US Los Angeles California, I was born in Yerevan , when I miss my birthplace just checking through internet, see what foreigners think of Armenia. I'm happy to see you are enjoying your trip to Armenia.
I'm flying into Yerevan next week and I'm so excited to travel to Armenia for the very first time :) but, my flight lands at around 3am. Does anybody know if it's possible to buy a sim card at the airport at that time in the morning? Also, I can only speak English and Dutch, will I have a hard time getting around Yerevan not knowing Armenian (I'll of course make the effort to learn to say hello, thank you, goodbye etc in Armenian). If anybody could help, that'd be amazing as I just can't wait to be there :)
Hey! Not sure about sim card at the airport but you can download the Yandex Go app in the airport on their wifi and use it to get to your accom. It's like their Uber. It's much cheaper than the cheaky taxi drivers that'll rip you off. Enjoy!
4:40 let me tell you the story about the unfinished part of the cascade complex .Basically the man that was paying for the construction unfortunately passed away during the construction ,and the project fell on the hand of his dumbass kids that didn't want to finish it (they have more than enough money to finish the project but who am i to say) so now its an eye soar and a i feel complete embarrassment that tourists like you would have a bad impression of the city ,but there is good news the state recently took the property back from the kids and is planning to build a park in the next 10 years so we just have to wait and see.:)
They have promised to finish it. French architects have proposed a plan to finish it (with this gov we won’t get anywhere tho). Gafesjisn (who btw founded lexisnexis and west law- these are western AI tools for lawyers) financed the project but it remained unfinished after he passed away.
The GUM market is a touristic attraction, it is not a local’s market. Everything is 3 times more expensive there than in the real market where locals go. What you tried was not a dried fruit, it was a candid fruit. And that makes me sad as Armenia really has one of the best and cheapest dried fruit. Come again and ask the locals to show you the best places, you won’t regret it :)
Hey just so you know: Yandex is Russian not Armenian and supports Russia. GG is Armenian and is a free app too. Cascade is fantastic. But it’s an indoor and outdoor art exhibit. Inside the steps (doors at the bottom) takes escalators up to the top. It’s not a Soviet 50 year monument. The towering monument with the flame at the top but behind Cascade- that is the Soviet monument; not Cascade itself. Not trying to pic on you. I swear!! You’re doing a great job. Just pointing out some info.
I can see why some armenians don’t think about coming to America even, despite the problems about living in armenia , people love they’re country still

The Cascade complex is unfortunately incomplete. That’s why it doesn’t reach the top but hopefully some time in the near future we’ll see it complete.
Wow! How long has it been in the works?
@@thedeparturebrief 30 years or so, afaik

The area is already bought by the government, so we can expect reconstruction in near future
Safe travels! Only positive people can see the real beauty.
