BTS rarely, if not never, do anything randomly. These amazing music artists are wicked smart and creative. This MV and many other MVs are all connected and tell story or stories. There are some explanation vids about BST that are made by BTSARMY with different theories. Some BTSARMY still try to solve it. Welcome to real BTS rabbit hole.

You trying to get them down the BU? (BTS Universe), which is part of bts and army that I haven't delved into, because there is alot. And there's alot of music videos. Plus there are songs of theirs that aren't in an MV form. But only available to watch in a live performance.

This song is essentially about falling into temptation and the loss of innocence. But despite the multiple explanation videos I've seen or the articles I've read, I'm still not fully satisfied with it all, lol. I still have some questions like: why did they choose the La Pieta to depict Jesus and Mary? Why is Jesus' face not fully formed unlike all other statues that's in the MV? But have fun researching this one. To me this is their masterpiece work. I wouldn't consider it the most cinematic because I think the official ON MV is the one. Since you guys have already reacted to ON Kinetic Manifesto, I think you should now watch the official MV also.

BTS has stated many times that their Wings concept is based on youth/boys falling into temptation and losing their innocence. This is a good continuation of their overarching concept of youth; their previous era, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, is centered around the idea of a reckless and carefree youth that leads to growing up and falling into temptation (you can see this in the I Need U and Run videos). So in TMBML we saw the boys at the prime of their free-spirited youth and hints of their downfall. Now, in Wings/Blood Sweat & Tears, we will witness their fall & one interpretation of the different ways adulthood tempts the freshly matured.

RELATIONSHIP ESTABLISHMENTS & JIN WITH THE PAINTING
This may seem like a really minor detail and super irrelevant (“Ahh!! You’re reading too much into it!!”) but after watching the video several times you will see that this makes a connection later on. The video opens with everyone walking into the museum together, but everyone is paired up: J-Hope with V, Suga with Jimin, Rapmon with Jungkook. This is even exemplified in the Wings concept photoshoots:There are 7 members in BTS so the odd one out is Jin, who is seen walking away from everyone and towards a painting.Jin looks at the painting, titled The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel. We know that the angels of heaven fell because of direct rebellion against God by siding with Lucifer, who corrupted the angels by sinful temptations.
This is a foreshadowing of the future events to come. Jin is the center focus of the music video and is the key symbol of tempted youth.
JUNGKOOK & RAP MONSTER: STORY OF ICARUS AND DAEDALUS
The next painting is seen behind Jungkook, who is dangling from a swing. It is The Lament of Icarus by Herbert James Draper.
Rap Monster is the one who melts the candle from which Jungkook licks the melted wax from. In the myth, although it is Icarus’ own ignorance that leads to his death, it is his father Daedalus who gives him the option of flying in the first place. So Rapmon would represent Daedaelus and Jungkook can be interpreted as Icarus. Remember, at the beginning Rapmon is shown reading something to Jungkook, which would play into the Daedalus/Icarus relationship where the former educates and guides the latter. Rapmon is also the leader and Jungkook the maknae, which makes the relationship work.
The way Jungkook is positioned on the swing-set looks like he is falling (both physically and symbolically). The melting candle and him licking the wax can be tied to the myth of Icarus, who falls because of the melted wax on his wings. When he is licking the wax he is actually off the swing, which could symbolize his fall. Jungkook “falls” because he has consumed the melted candle wax, which represents temptation.
    J-HOPE & MICHELANGELO’S PIETA
Next, we see J-Hope in front of Michelangelo’s Pieta, which shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Jesus Christ following his crucifixion and removal from the cross. If you’ve listened to the Wings album you know that J-Hope’s solo song is titled “Mama” and is about his mom (there are also ties here to Demian with correlations to the character of Frau Eva, Demian’s mother in the novel. But like I said before I didn’t read Demian so you’ll have to refer to the previous replies for clarifications there). This is yet another Biblical reference in the music video.
BTS, THE APPLE, AND JIN HEARING SOMETHING
Later on, all of the members are seen gathering at a table in what reminds me of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci (The Last Supper tells the story of Jesus Christ and the distress amongst his Twelve Disciples after it was announced one of them would betray him). Anyways, they’re seen all with a single apple on their plate. The apple is a famous symbol of sin in the biblical story of Adam and Eve where Eve eats the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. And the scenery of the set does look like some sort of garden. In the last of the three photos above, you can see that the boys are all raising their cups to pledge something, but what are they pledging to? Given that the apple is on their plate and they’re ready to eat, it is hinted that they’re all ready to commit to the sins of adulthood together by eating the apple together.
Just as Jin is about to raise his cup/pledge it seems as if he heard something, like a voice calling to him. At this point we are not really sure what it means but it adds on to the idea of Jin falling to temptation because whatever it is that called to him has captured his attention.
    J-HOPE & V: THE ARROW
So after some research, I came across this verse from Psalm 21:12 of the Bible:
“For You will make them turn their back; You will aim with Your bowstrings at their faces.”
I thought this was pretty interesting in relations to the video. I don’t know if BTS/production team went as far as basing this entire scene from this verse, but the connection is pretty clear. J-Hope shoots an arrow at V, which lands at his face and splatters the colored liquid everywhere (“You will aim with Your bowstrings at their faces”)
    .
JIMIN & SUGA: BLINDFOLD AND THE APPLE
Here we see more of the relationship between Jimin and Suga. Again, the apple is used as a symbol of sin and I have some photos from the Wings photoshoot to illustrate this further (bonus: Jimin’s solo track “Lie” is also heavily influenced by the Adam and Eve story).
Suga has a blindfold, seemingly for Jimin.
V FALLING & LANDSCAPE WITH THE FALL OF ICARUS
Here is where things start to get really interesting. We have V sitting on the ledge of a balcony (where he was seen in the beginning sitting at and looking up and down) and he looks back at you, cracks a mischievous grin, and jumps willingly. And in front of him is a big painting: Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, also by Bruegel. The painting shows a spectacular scenery of the sea, but when you look closely, you can see that there are a pair of legs struggling in the sea on the bottom righthand corner. That’s supposed to be Icarus after he falls. So we have this reoccurring motif of Icarus. We saw his death earlier and now we are witnessing his fall. Since I already interpreted Jungkook as Icarus, I won’t also analyze V as Icarus. Just keep in mind that V willfully falling, even enjoying it, is a very important factor in the story of BST.
BLINDFOLDED JIMIN & JUNGKOOK WITH FEATHERS
So now we see Suga blindfolding Jimin and he stumbles around the room. Since the apple is nowhere in sight we can assume that Jimin has eaten it, and after he ate it, he’s “lost his way” (wink wink reference) and has fallen into temptation. And I also have another photo of Jungkook floating without the swing (the swing = youth; his youth is also gone) now, and he’s got falling feathers all around him, adding to the idea that he represents Icarus.
JIN & THE BALLOON - GIVES INTO THE TEMPTATIONS
Throughout this video Jin has looked pretty conflicted; if you recall the beginning when he’s looking at the painting, he’s got a focused look that’s like “wow this is kind of cool??!” as well as confused. Like he doesn’t really know why he’s drawn to it but he is. And remember when he was at the dinner table with everyone but he gets distracted by something? My interpretation is that Jin is conflicted between wanting to stay blissful to the sweetness of youth, but he keeps getting distracted and enticed by “sinful callings.” This struggle is resolved with this scene of Jin and his balloon. The balloon represents his innocent youth; he’s quite literally holding on to it. He’s not sure if he wants to let go. Then, later on, during the cut with Rap Monster’s narration, we see that Jin has finally let go of the balloon. The balloon is already out of frame when he reaches up towards it, possibly regretting his choice. Remember, everyone else has already given in to the different forms of enticement (Jimin with the apple, V with falling, Jungkook with the wax, etc.) Jin is the last one to fall.
FINALE: JIN & V - V AS THE FALLEN ANGEL WHO SEDUCES JIN, THE KISS
Suga plays the organ and it is seen that all the boys in their respective pairs exit the museum, except Jin has stayed behind and V has noticed. Jin seems to be looking at/for something, and V shows up with yet another playful look and covers his eyes.
When V removes his hands and Jin opens his eyes, a mysterious statue with large, black wings has appeared and looks like it’s ready to take off.
So in the end, V, who’s been kind of elusive in the story, is revealed to have scars where wings are supposed to be. I believe this statue is V. The way the scenes cut support this theory, because as the cloth covering V is revealed Jin is approaching the statue, and as he kisses the statue the figure under the cloth with the scars on his back is revealed to be V. A kiss often means the sealing of a contract; this means that Jin has officially fallen and “signed a contract” with V the fallen angel and has lost his innocence. The correlation is pretty strong here. Given all of the biblical references and the way V jumps off the ledge earlier supports the idea that V is, indeed, the fallen angel that tempts Jin. And this is where the verse from Psalm 21:12 comes into play: “For You (referring to J-Hope with his bow&arrow) will make them turn their back; You will aim with Your bowstrings at their faces.” V has turned his back quite literally and has also figuratively turned his back on Jin, who did not suspect V to be a tempter.
Hope you enjoyed the detailed analysis;)

Yes, this is by far the deepest, psycho-philosopical music video they have, full of biblical, mythological, literary and artistic allusions and references. It is based on Demian, yes, but it also includes other motifs related to temptation. Actually, it is the song that turned me and many other bookworms and mythology and literature lovers into ARMY, and this song was the main trigger for many fans, including teens, to read about philosophy and psychology. Many AMRYs out there have read Demian and the Map of the Soul because of BTS.

I agree this music video is inspired from the book Damien by Hermann Hess, BTS videos are cinematic, however the best one by far is the "On" music video, not to be confused with "On - kinetic manifesto" same song but different video clips. But it is best by far for storytelling. that and the original version of 'I need u" that is 5 minutes long, the shortened version does not have all the important content in it, as it was made it suitable for younger audiences.....

Blood Sweat and Tears video and song were built and written based on Demian, a novel by Hermann Hesse which won a nobel prize in literature back in 1946. I read this book (because of this Mv) and I'll try my best to interpret and summarize the story here.
The story follows a young boy named Sinclair who had a friend named Demian. Demian acted as Sinclair's mentor during his childhood and transition to adulthood. Sinclair as a young adult experienced series of existential crisis, believing he lived in between the world of light (the world of illusion, full of goodness) and "the dark world" (the real world which was full of lust, temptation, anger and evil world).
Demian, and later on Sinclair's another mentor Pistorius, believed that in order to become a full person a human needs to embrace both of their light and dark sides. This will then lead Sinclair to find out about Abraxas, the god of light and darkness.
There are sooo many imageries and jawdropping details on the MV that represent details in the book. But the point is this song is about the loss of innocence and temptation, about being a human and embracing both of your good and dark sides.
The scene where Jin kissed the statue (which I believe the representation of Abraxas) means he seals the deal with the devil himself in order to fully embrace himself as a person who isn't perfect, full of flaws.
The white and black doors represent the world of light and the real world. Suga playing piano represents Pistorius who was a pianist in the story. The phrase that RM read in English here was also taken from the book, page 26 (on the version that I read). It says "He too was a tempter, he too was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer have anything to do."
"He" here refers to Demian, that Sinclair once thought as a bad influence for him, maybe it's because Sinclair tried to deny his dark sides.
The book is heavily influenced by a swiss philosopher and psychiatrist Carl Jung. One of his pupils was Hermann Hesse's doctor back then. This MV and song are also influenced by a german philosopher Nietzche. There's a quote by him on the wall above the painting that Jin is staring at. It is in German but it means "You must have chaos within you in order to give a birth to a dancing star". Again, the same theme occurs here, about embracing both of your light and dark sides. Only by accepting your flaws and mistakes you can reach your true potentials.
Hesse learned a lot about Jung's psychoanalysis and experienced it himself so that was why Demian was heavily influenced by it. What makes it even more interesting, BTS album MOTS 7 is also based on Carl Jung's theory (hence the songs Persona, Shadow, and Ego were born-- these 3 elements are important in Jung's theory Maps of the Soul).
BTS are deep. They talk about real things like the pain of growing up and youth's experience. They literally make a lot of armys become smarter and read on classic literature like this because of them. lol. Welcome to the fandom!
(Please note once again that this is all my own interpretation after reading the book, take it with a grain of salt.)

This MV is basically all about temptation and the loss of innocence. You see the color green throughout the video, the absinthe, the smoke, the candle wax... you see all members slowly succumb to temptation and accept the darker side of themselves (you always see the white doorway on the right and the black doorway on the left); you even see the single apple on each of their plates at the dinner table (original sin - temptation). Jin holds out for most of the MV then by kissing the statue (the god Abraxis), he is accepting the darker side of himself. There is a TON more and there are some great explanation videos that go into all the links to Demian and explain all of the art pieces and statue choices, none of them are random.

BST is on the Wings album - my second favorite album. The album tells the story of loss of innocence. Transitioning from boy to man. It’s based off of the Herman Hesse novel Damien. RM is quoting it when he’s speaking. This whole album is part of the Bangtan Universe. The BU is a story line that runs through many of their albums. I’d say BST is about half way, so it’s hard to explain without spoiling everything. If you want to react to the BU, google it and watch the videos etc in order. WARNING you have to know each member by sight or you’ll get completely confused.

this was the song when JHope became one of my bias wreckers i mean just look at the way he dances letting the emotion take him over and also his legs omg they are long.
also there are lots of small hidden messages in this MV (which after a million times of me watching I still find more), and to me it's about being tempted by something evil or bad (just like eve and the snake) also it's about a fallen angel who was once a good angel but ended up being tempted by something and ended up having its wings cut off (Vs bit with the scars on his back).
Also on a side note this is the MV with Jimins "shoulder accident" which us armys know it's a lie and he did it on purpose.
also this choreo is my fav off all the choreos as it's so sensual and complicated as I love the use of different levels they do

I love your reaction - I do think you guys are funny - the vid does have a lot of symbolism-- i watched the explanation vid, the 1st painting i believe depicts the war of the angels, there's mythology used, Icarus, Abraxis etc. - in a nutshell what I took from it is that there are different facets to a person-- in the beginning scene, on both sides of the painting are 2 doors- dark and light which exist in all of us, and Jin's character is torn between the 2 -- to be true to oneself, we need to embrace all facets of our.being, at least that is what i understand the symbolism to be.

This video references the balance between good and evil. In the beginning you see jin looking at a painting. The battle of fallen angels on the side you notice the black and one doors representing the good and evil. Jungkook floating like Icarus floating to close to the sun/temptation. It's the consistent battle to not fall into temptation, throughout the video you see each one being tempted by something. In the end jin kisses the statue choosing the evil path icarus(v) wings were severed which leads to chaos causing jin to crack from his destruction.

Yes this MV is deep lol. Theme is fall into temptation/ loss of innocence. The painting at the start is the Fall of Rebel Angel, thus the dark angel at the end that lost its wings. JK also hangs with no harness, like the Fall of Icarus, which is the 2nd painting on the wall. They say this is based on Demian, by Herman Hesse Brilliant, right 😊 Maybe you'd like to check the Springday MV, that one is based on the Ones Who Walk Away fron Omelas. Springday is the 'Queen' of all BTS songs. Thanks for reacting to BTS!

Hi guys, thanks for your reaction... this track is for me in its entirety a masterpiece of coherence between the MV, the lyrics, the choreography, the costumes and the message... It is a philosophical reflection as we rarely see in music. And without wanting to offend other groups, BTS is a category apart with a unique and very strong artistic identity. Their albums are built in such an intelligent way, almost like a philosophical essay, that I think they are modern day thinkers.
Concerning the MV and all the artistic, literary, philosophical and biblical references that can be found in it, I recommend you this video th-cam.com/video/5tlgAUE6yjg/w-d-xo.html ... you will be blown away by the amount of work and reflexion instilled in this MV.
As for the message, here is what you need to know:
On the single “Blood Sweat & Tears” from the group’s 2016 album, Wings, tropical house blends with moombahton production as members Jimin, Jungkook, Suga, RM, J-Hope, V, and Jin declare their willingness to throw everything on the line for love, success or whatever their aim might be. Thematically, the guys blend sentiments of temptation with an often carnal willingness to sacrifice everything.
What have the artists said about the song?
“The harder a temptation is to resist, the more you think about it and vacillate. That uncertainty is part of the process of growing. [“Blood Sweat & Tears”] is a song that shows how one thinks, chooses, and grows.”
    -RM via Soompi
“The song relays an optimistic determination to use our wings to go far, even if we are met with temptations in life.”
    -SUGA via Soompi
What was the process behind making the song?
“I got this track in the beginning. Normally when we work, if there is a good track, we find good wording or theme for the album and production. Sometimes we would start from that. Sometimes we start with a specific theme first. For “피 땀 눈물 (Blood Sweat & Tears),” we had a good track to begin with. But we couldn’t find a good wording or melody, so I thought about it a lot. I re-wrote the melody and rap part over 20 times. There is a part of the lyrics that I took at the beginning. ‘나를 부드럽게 죽여줘’ (‘Kill me softly’). I tried taking this to the second part of the song. Bang PD liked that a lot. ‘Killing me softly’ it’s a well known idiom, so I began from that. Then the wording, ‘피 땀 눈물’ (‘Blood Sweat & Tears’)-the producer took that. That’s how it started, one by one. I re-wrote it 20 times, but everyone gets together to think about and work on the track. We work to make good parts even better. That’s the process.”
    -RM via V Live
    About the song’s name ?
In the BTS Wings Concept Book, RM said:
“It’s not a colloquial expression in Korean. We normally say ‘shed blood and sweat,’ ‘shed blood and tears,’ we don’t use ‘blood, sweat and tears.’ It sounds unfamiliar. I like a rapper called Ace Hood and he has an album titled Blood, Sweat & Tears. This is a commonly used expression in English and I thought if we take and change this to Korean, we could make it into one of our expressions. Also, I kept thinking about the phrase ‘blood, sweat and tears’ and the words' feel is kind of uncomfortable. Feels like something is emitted. I thought about it for a day but other people would think it’s either sexy or dirty when hearing the title. It ended up not sounding dirty so that’s a success.”
