I have so many memories of Ghost Town in the Sky from my childhood. Thanks for the update Jacob! I still think it should just be a chairlift to an area like Broadway at the Beach or even something like Ober Gatlinburg.
When the supposed buyer refused to speak at the town hall meeting I knew something wasn’t right. She looked shocked that town hall meetings were live streamed something that should have been common knowledge. Sad that the deal fell through.
Yeah, I was wondering why she stated that you couldn't stream the town meeting. I was under the assumption that town meetings could be streamed legally.
Thanks for the history man. It most definitely seems cursed, and I’m imagining all the money that has been sunk into this property accumulated over all the years. Wow. I would love to see this place up and running, I feel like it would take a huge gigantic chunk of money just to get it going. I hope it happens. I hope there’s much ahead for it
As someone who made quite a few trips there in my childhood, the whole thing saddens me. It's sad that the park fell into such a state of disrepair that there was not enough money to bring it back. It's sad that the shooting incident occurred. It's sad that these so-called execs (who proved themselves to be the sheisters that most of us assumed they were) gave people hope of return for the park. , and most of all it's sad that other folks, and specifically kids, will never be able to see the park in it's glory days the way that I did through a child's eyes. I've got memories of being on the chair lift and the chair swing with my family that will never fade. Thanks for keeping us all updated Jacob. I've no doubt that the Vagabond has his nefarious hands in this!
Those new owners might want to check to make sure that property isn't sitting on top of a Native American burial ground. Maybe hire a few local Shamans to bless the land just in case.
I find this place so interesting just because of the lore and hype around it that the carpetbagger has created. As a a functional theme park this destination has no future, but as a dysfunctional theme park? Open guided walking tours to the public that allow them to safely view the ruins of this cursed park. In depth tales of the rumors and dark side of the park. Candle lit tours at night? Do you dare to spend the night at this cursed park? That’s where it’s at at this point.

Thank you for this update video. I hate it for the people of Maggie Valley. I'm sure they were hoping to see Ghost Town with some life back in it, creating jobs and bringing tourists into the town.
I heard about the accidental shooting at Ghost Town in the Sky. If the handgun isn’t checked regularly after the continuous of blanks. The firearm can create a buildup of sorts in the barrel and at that time can become lethal!! If a large enough blockage is created the material can become a projectile of sorts and injure someone or worse. Exactly what happened to Brandon Lee in the Crow and what just happened with the Baldwin incident in Hollywood just a few months back.
I'm guessing they tried to make their own blanks ala The Crow.. I remember the last day I was there and rode the red devil. The seat belt didn't work and just fell off. The chair lifts descended into a lightning Storm and Michael Landon died that day.. it has to be built on an Indian burial ground lol!? There really wasn't much in Maggie Valley but, this place just was never worth all this trouble. Love this vid though, bud.. sweet fancy moses lol!
You mentioned Tweetsie Railroad - if you buy a copy of Unusual Films' 1963 film Red Runs the River, you will see the Tweetsie used in all of the Civil War railroad shots, with the small exception of the train crash/bridge demolition, which was done with a model.
I still find it odd that a single chair lift malfunction caused them to close down the whole park and call it quits. What if they did that for disneyland? "well, the disnelyland railroad isn't running today, i guess we better shut down the park forever."
Ghost Town in the Sky's chair lift was it's feature attraction, awa it's main mode of transport to the park entrance, making it essential. W/o the chair lift, didn't they, at one point, plan on shuttling customers up the mountain by the van/bus/truck-load? That seems a much less interesting option, imo. Being born fairly close to Maggie Valley, there is not much about the area that I do not love. Ghost Town, while I loved the idea, is one place that always seem to envoke a PTSD response. In 1977 I was 4 years old. In a freak accident at Ghost town, the back of my head was smashed wide open. My father ran all the way down the side of the mountain with me in his arms. At that time the nearest hospital was 40 miles away. It took 22 stitches to close my head. I have wondered if the place was cursed ever since I was old enough to understand what a curse is.
Hate to hear the inevitable has happened. It was extremely obvious Ghost Town was going nowhere when they shut down the video and live feed down at the town hall meeting. Thanks a ton for all the info and video you’ve supplied about Ghost Town....who knows, maybe someday the right folks will get ahold of it 👍🏻
I totally agree about the livestream. That was not the way to share the good news and anybody honestly buying and investing in a theme park would want any kind of publicity.

For now it appears it will just sit there and continue to decay away. But eventually the property will likely be purchased by a developer who will probably demolish Ghost Town and build something else there. Possibly a ski resort, or subdivide it and build houses.
I live about 50 miles from Ghost Town. In the beginning I was hoping it would be opened again, but it's been so long since it's been closed, now I really don't care if it ever gets reopened again.
Yeah... my thought through all this was "if I had cash, I would buy the place, take everything down, and let the poor mountain have a rest." The place is beautiful. Alas... then I was increasingly disturbed by what sounds like some kind of weird manipulative relationship. I hope that someone (that isn't a couch surfing ex Popeyes exec) has power of attorney for Ms Presley if she isn't able to speak for herself. And if she is, I hope someone talks to her because that sure looks shady and worrisome. Excuse the expression... if she were my mom, I would be losing my shit if I found her in this situation. (Also, if anyone is crashing on her couch it is gonna be me, or at least family, right? That's the way it is supposed to be.) Can you imagine what getting a clean title on that property will be like by the end of this all? Yikes. Thanks, Jacob.

I used to work at a hospital where we had contracts with a great number of companies that contracted with us to do drug testing after ANY accidents. It's a liability issue. The workplace pays two hundred fifty bucks, and if there is ANY sort of drug or alcohol in the "victim's" system, they can then deny all responsibility and fire the employee. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than a lawsuit or worker's comp, even if the alcohol or drugs had zero to do with the accident. Somewhat crooked, but it made a good deal of money for the hospital lab and saved money in fines for companies that weren't always on the up and up with their safety. The bad thing about the Apache Kid was he was most likely in the right. However, he released a string of tirade-ridden videos that started to sound a bit creepy, a little too conspiracy theory. So he kind of bashed his reputation all on his own with Dale Gribble diatribes.
Most people think he shot himself, otherwise Maggie Valley PD would have looked into it deeper. Anytime you are injured on the job a drug test is required.
Hi. I am from NE TN & I have been to Ghost town a few times. But, there was an accident in 1982-83. We were the next people to get on chairlift and I reminded my Parents they forgot get me a shirt. While we were in shop, Lightning struck the chairlift and it started slamming people into the bottom of chairlift. We had to come down the mountain on the trolley with 2 Firefighters on each end handbreaking it.. My Dad wouldn't let me look. But, I cannot find anything about it. Please help me. Thank you.
Things have to have deteriorated past the point of renovation by now. I remember Jacob’s video where that man took him up and took him on a tour, things looked bad then. That former Popeye’s exec was trying scam people, and that “former Disney exec” didn’t want to be recorded telling a bunch of lies. Well, it’s an entertaining soap opera, anyway!
First, enjoyed all the videos about Ghost Town in the Sky. I remember seeing the commercials in the late 80s growing up in East Tn. I still laugh at the dancing little girl who waves her arms in the commercials. My wife, who grew up in the Smoky Mountains, actually went there in 92 or 93. She stated even then the incline railroad looked so janky that they were not going to risk going up a mountain in it so never made it up there. I was supposed to go with some friends in about 96 or 97 but one went the year before and told us it was not worth the money since the park was in such disrepair. So we never went. I am surprised people are still trying to get this off the ground with how much of a money pit this has become.
Sounds like its history for Ghost Town. The longer its left to rot, the more it will cost to fix up. I feel sorry for the cowboy who got shot. Fancy not having running water, I mean, how can they run the toilets?
We live just north of atlanta but frequent Bryson city / Cherokee.there are 2 places in bryson i would like to see someone explore! Aren't you close to that area?thnx

Young kids are not interested in the gunfights anymore. We would come down the street to rob the bank and they would have their their noses buried in their cell phones.
Wow, such a saga!!!! It's a darn shame that a place that is obviously special and dear to a bunch of people, has so much drama attached to it's self. Jacob, I think the best thing that could happen to this place would be a natural disaster, such as a fire or a catastrophic mud slides, completely obliterate this place beyond repair. This way it could be remembered fondly for the nearly half century of "good times." Now understand, I am not advocating arson, so nobody get any ideas and then try to day I put them up to it!!!! That's not what I'm getting at, at all!!! Just understand that death can be dignified, especially in this case. Good intentions of trying to resurrect Ghost Town seem to not be working. It's okay, let it die. How about tours of the former, now abandoned theme park. I think people would pay a fair price for that. No investment needed, the town could just run tours. Or even a Halloween event? Minimal investment needed!!!! I ran and created many haunted attractions, that could work and return a ton of money!!!! Oh well, just me spewing some thoughts... Great job Jacob on chronicling the events of G.T.I.T.S.!!!!!
They would have gotten away with it too - if it weren't for those meddling kids

Thank you.
Loving the Pronto Pups shirt! They have them at the MN State Fair, and they are the BEST!
They are hard to find
Thanks for the update .
Your bunker is so deep, do you use stairs or an elevator?
Funicular railroad
It's really sad that this park has had so much bad stuff happen. I went there many times as a kid and have good memories of it. Smh. 😞
I remember that video of the town meeting. Weird!
Odd how people with corporate experience like that can be so bad at PR
Sounds like its history for Ghost Town. The longer its left to rot, the more it will cost to fix up. I feel sorry for the cowboy who got shot. Fancy not having running water, I mean, how can they run the toilets?
You should buy it Jacob!!!
Bad storm headed your way Jacob! Stay safe!
They should just bulldoze it and put it out of its misery it's not going to open anytime soon if at all its just sad to see :(
No , I am sticking with you that sounds like a curse !
We live just north of atlanta but frequent Bryson city / Cherokee.there are 2 places in bryson i would like to see someone explore! Aren't you close to that area?thnx
WOW!! I went there as a kid!!! 😟
I gtew up going to ghoast town. Ss a little girl. I went back i think in. 99. It was awsome i rode the ted drvil like 5 times only because it got stuck. I lived the indian shows.
Cool video. It would be nice to see Ghost Town open again but it won't be the same as in the 60s.
Is there any updates On Ghost Town. I can remember going there several times when I was a kid.
Very informative! Thanks!
sound like they the so called disney excutive may not be excutive for disney
Definatly a soap opera! You did a lot of research! Thanks for sharing.
I would love to get in there to record it ik one big TH-camr did and another guy has is it fenced off or not
I been wanting to purchase this place for two years now
Before anyone ask yes I'm a secret lottery winner from south Carolina. They won't sell it
Any update for 2020 on the park
Is Guntown Mountain open again? I drove past it the week of Thanksgiving and I couldn't tell.
I don't how you managed to keep all this straight. Remembering all this info . I'm thoroughly confused.
She probably came across your videos while doing research. But man, this whole damn thing is so weird!
Red Devil was C.B handle in Chicago back in the late 70's and early 80's!
It is a lot like Jason in Friday the 13th. Might be time to let it go for good.
That's a shame,I was looking forward to them reopening Ghost Town
Enjoyed and interesting video
still think you should buy it, lift that curse and bring it back to life, Ghost Town needs to be RESURRECTED
Young kids are not interested in the gunfights anymore. We would come down the street to rob the bank and they would have their their noses buried in their cell phones.
Very interesting history.
Damn, those chops are looking more burl than usual.
I don't think I'd ride any of the rides with the bad luck that place has had!
Would you ever go up there yourself if its still abandoned?
Dolly Parton tried to buy ghost town and the town of Maggie valley wouldn’t let her do anything was in the local paper
I was thinking I had heard Dolly Parton had considered a purchase at one time.
She was supposed to when it reopened for a short while because she wanted to get rid of any compitition
Yeah that place has been cursed since the early seventies.
Someone needs to write a book on the sordid history of this park (hint, hint).
Sad. I remember going there as a kid. Better off letting it die.
Super sad i hoped it would reopen someday
Just an observation but you use the discourse marker "um" quite often in this.
And?
@@TheCarpetbagger As I said, just an observation.
Crooks and more crooks everywhere
Man, it really does sound cursed.
This way it could be remembered fondly for the nearly half century of "good times."
Now understand, I am not advocating arson, so nobody get any ideas and then try to day I put them up to it!!!!
Great job Jacob on chronicling the events of G.T.I.T.S.!!!!!
i wanna go
Here's the deal! It's called Ghost Town for a reason??? Think about it?
