  • Small Dots Ensemble plays "Eight Lines (Octet)" composed by Steve Reich in 1979/1983.
The vertical position of each dot represents the pitch. That is, dots at the same height have the same pitch.
The horizontal space is for 2 measures. This work is in five, so, two of 10 eighth-notes are displayed.
Drones in the strings are excepted, because they change its length each time.
The split screen version is here...

Only 24 comments?! 253 likes??! Has the world come to an end, or something? Did civilisation collapse? Reich + Small Dots Ensemble + visualisation... the result is beyond words. Let's say it in a blunt way: Every begger can become filthy rich inside, just by hearing and seeing this.. Love every Dot of it.

@@smalldotsensemble2058 This is great work! The visualisation really drags you deeper into the music, without disturbing my listening comfort in any way. It really helps to feel and understand, what Reich ment. It's an art within it self, and done very well. I can even add bass guitar lines now, which forces me to listen even better. This opens a whole new universe for me. I am very happy to cause a smile upon your face.

@@smalldotsensemble2058 I often see just a few views and likes at fantastic music by welknown artists. There will be many explanations for that. But there must be a future for your kind of visualisations. I do hope you get noticed, and get propositions.. Great work, thanks a lot!

And somehow, a bassist in the Netherlands always finds his way home here.. To Heaven, that is.. To my friends, the Eternal Dancing Dots! There we go! The best 5/8 in Town! Grooving along with this, 'ntill Kingdom - or whatever - comes! Just playing ground notes on 1 and 3 - but right on time! - sets the train going.. Lost count? That what friends are for! Te lovely dazzling Dots, keep me in track. 12-123!.. All together we go! Mán, what you can do with 5/8! But always together, never seperated! Groovin' into the future. Leave it all behind! Explore infinity, and just let 5/8 roll, anyway you like it! Get on that 5/8 train!.. Small Dots Ensemble is my Salvation Army here! They never let you go! Just swim along with it! Ten Points Plus! Dix Pointes! But keep your discipline! That is, what Reich demands. That's were 5/8 drives you into infinity! SMD, Thanks! 🙂
