Love using triad pairs and hexatonics... as a guitar player triad pairs gets one around the fingerboard through inversions. Outside the boxes and old position playing. Thanks!!! Best rega4ds from Canada🙏

your playing is the reason I bought a soprano, as I heard it so much on your vids that I wanted to make soprano sounds. Your videos are very informative, well made and entertaining. I see sadness in your eyes and hope it will pass, whatever it is, NIck.

This is a cool approach. I have done similar by adding the 7th. But I like the sound of the triads better. It sounds more versatile key wise and I can use this instead of whole tones and 4ths(Which are elements of this approach but more melodic!!!!). I ordered the book and started working on this. Finally a reason to get back practicing past warmups....Thanks!!!!

What superbly produced and amazingly informative videos. You know, there are so many musical instruction videos on TH-cam these days that it's sometimes hard to separate not just the good from the bad, but those that go a bit further to be extra revealing and rewarding. I think that your material is quite frankly some of the best if not the best out there. The way you go beyond technique to connect the emotional response.. simply amazing. And the tone from that clarinet... wow. Please keep posting. Love it.

  • @jamessidney2851

Very cool lesson. It seems like what you are really suggesting is that we should master the ability to play 3 types of triad pairs: major + major, major + minor, and minor + minor. That covers the gamut! After that it’s all about learning which type of chords these pairs can be used on, and where to place them in relation to the root.
In my own playing I already use the major + major triad pair formula all the time. I use it for a Dorian sound on minor chords (like F maj and G maj triads played over a D minor chord). I also use it sometimes for a mixolydian sound with a sunny 9th feeling (like Bb maj and Ab maj played over a Bb7 chord). So your first example was pretty easy to start playing immediately. But the other two are going to take a while. I can see it’s going to be worth the effort though.
But I do have a question for you. All of these formulas are triads a whole step apart. Are there any triad pair formulas that are outside that mold? Like two major triads a 3rd apart, or a major + minor triad pair a 4th apart? Just curious. Thanks!

Hi Allen, Nick presents Eb Major tonality, right? So the a = #4/#11 right? Your f# in D Major super imposes a minor 3rd over Major. Hé, that is a great sound as it gives ambiguity like in the blues, but it is not what Nick is pointing out, no doubt.

    • @eshortsax
      @eshortsax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Don’t forget it’s in relationship to Eb major. So instead of it being D diminished (DFAb) it’s a Dm (DFA) with the four of Eb being raised (Ab ->A). Hope that helped :)

    Bonjour

Hy. My TH-cam channel is called "TV de Olho nas Gerais"; but, my name is João Viana. I live em BH city; Minas Gerais/ Brazil.
I love studying music with your video lessons; I'm studying Soprano Sax; However, I have additional difficulties, because you record your videos with your beautiful soprano sax in C. My saxophone is in Bb; then, to study the scores and at the same time hear their articulations I need to transpose from Bb to C, increasing a tone; This makes everything much more difficult for those who don't have this skill. I have already purchased some of your studies in PDF; but, I was faced with the need to make the necessary adjustments; an additional hassle... I would love to continue purchasing your video classes and printed notebooks; but recorded in Bb. This can be resolved to help us focus on learning articulations; blue and jazz surrounds and swing; without having to worry about transposing the scores? Thank you very much! João Viana October 22/2023.

This is an exercise, this is not a way to play a jazz solo. Once you have repeated this pattern once or twice, it is time to play something melodic. If you are thinking about triad patterns you are not listening for the melody that the band is asking for.
