    Dude, stumbled across your channel. Love this particular conversation! I collect cds & play through 70s amp/receiver setup at home. Im 52 and grew up on 80s and 90s music. We have a great secondhand shop here in Hamilton, New Zealand called Tron Records. Respect. If ever down this way happy to host.

    100% agree with buying something that you know you will love now and enjoy. If it's important to you then if it's a little expensive then fuck it. You only live once.
    I never buy Records, cds or tapes to sell later and make more money. That's not what it's about to me. Passion over profit always. \m/
    Great video btw. 😀

    Completely agree with the sentiment , it’s worth whatever you are willing to pay.
    Some days , I might overpay a little if a particular album becomes available that I won’t see come in regularly to the stores that I frequent.

    The older original cd’s pre 90’s are the ones you need to go for, because the dynamic range is much better, when you get into the later years they suffer from brick wall over compressed and pushed to the limits just to sound loud, hence “ the loudness war”. Your right look for AAD cd pressings, German target cd’s, early UK, and early Japan are the way to go, you might have to turn up the volume a little more but the sound is ten times better!! The remastered or reissued cd’s can be atrocious, Happy CD Hunting !!

    I love this discussion and show ….. I believe that topic has so many emotional implications that it’s basically an unsolved riddle.😢 bringing it down to such a basic level as this yes, I know you’ve heard it before but as I get older, it always seems to come back to this. One man’s trash is one man’s treasure not that music is ever trash because it’s the opposite to me music it’s everything to me I see it as the ultimate treasure.

    I think when people talked in the comments section about used records for a dollar they meant CDs, rather than vinyl record originals.
    To me its obvious that if you show whats at record stores people will focus on prices because you want to compare the cost of whats in the store to shopping online. Prices and depth of stock is how record stores can compete with online purchasing. Not everyone has a vast amount of money to spend but they have the same bug for buying physical music.

    AC/DC's original UK pressing of Powerage had early mixes (missing guitar overdubs, leads, backing vocals, etc) and didn't even have the lead-off single Rock N Roll Damnation on it, and had an extra song "Cold Hearted Man" in the tracklist. Atlantic rushed it to press with unfinished mixes. It's a very cool listen.

    I was there a couple weeks ago trying to get David Lee Roth vinyl - Eat ‘Em And Smile. The vinyl was beat up a lot scratches and the sleeve on a Good condition. He priced it for $10 and I asked him if the record have any skips I’d be able to exchange it. He answer was no he doesn’t do that. He said even if you buy a brand new record it won’t be 100% sure it won’t skip. My local record stores does it with any record. Second hand or New.

    Made a friend that owner of his own music store, he used the terms Gold and Platinum as sales of albums, when he's selling alot by a band he'd call it gold record then alot of the same album from everywhere just wanting to get rid of them he'd call it came back Platinum, that's why he'd sell them at a cheaper price more came into the store than left.

    Great discussion! I'm always amazed about some the of the ridiculously high priced items people want to charge on Amazon. (I usually find better prices on Discogs.) The discussion about remastering is also noteworthy. There are some new remasters I find terrible, like Black Sabbath's Sabotage box--the remaster in the Black Box is far superior; same thing with the new remaster of Kiss Creatures of the Night, which pales in comparison to the 1997 remaster. The reason being that these remasters lack space and dynamics in them and my ears sometimes literally hurt after listening to them because of the compression/limiting done in the remaster. (Btw, I'm listening to these on a high end stereo system through classic Realistic Mach II speakers.) Other modern remasters, however, can be wonderful, such as those put out by labels like BGO, Iconoclassic, Rhino, and most (but not all) Rock Candy releases. So sometimes original remasters or original releases are preferable (like with the Genesis catalog, which also were remixed in the 2007 versions, which is a whole other story.)

    Big thing I’m looking for with pricing is that the albums are in great shape. I’ll pay more if it’s spotless. Though sometimes I have to give leeway if an album is really old…
    Of all “pricier” CDs I’ve acquired recently, I’ve been collecting the original Siouxsie and the Banshees albums. Some of them were easy to find, but even the remastered versions of Hyaena and A Kiss In the Dreamhouse were unbelievably difficult. Had to order those internationally ($30 a piece for both, 80s discs). Worth every penny!

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. For an older album that is out of print but in “like new” condition I’ll pay up to $30 as well. After that it better still be sealed. But it all comes down to how much you really want it in the end of the day.

  • @DorianPaige00
    @DorianPaige00 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I paid over the odds for something that was defective and misgraded so I guess that's the new price point for the item.
    I see some OJC cds behind you!
    Some mixes are changed on subsequent pressings like MJ's Bad Lp. You mentioned Madonna and her radio singles are only available on a Japanese box set of 3 inch discs that had an original list price of $350 in 1996. Cd singles also sell well for this factor as they were rather limited as labels focused mostly on the album by that point.

    Various factors come into the quality of a CD. Mastering quality, mixing, compressed? But remeber original recording pre 80s were all on tape but that's not a bad thing necessarily. Many AAD sound better than DDD or ADD. If into classical look up Mercury Living Presence recordings which were made on 35mm tape for higher quality. Those on CD sound fantastic.

  • @SONIC-BOOM-TV
    @SONIC-BOOM-TV ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I get tons of near mint CD'S for $1.00 that have much higher prices on Discogs, very rarely are CD'S more than $1.00 or $2.00 around here.

    • @SONIC-BOOM-TV
      @SONIC-BOOM-TV ปีที่แล้ว

      @willd4731 it seems like a cool store to me, I'm just saying that I can and do get CD'S for $1.00 in the New Orleans area just about anytime I go looking. It's not from a music store that will have a lot of the most popular stuff but I get plenty of that too.

  • @Madhatter8547
    @Madhatter8547 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does availability on streaming services affect the price in any way? I would think a physical cd or record would be of greater value if that was the only way(outside of low quality TH-cam rips) to listen to the music legally.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps…but since there is no value to the streaming they don’t compete in that way. But I can see some saying they won’t pay exorbitant amounts if they can still listen via streaming. But the value of an album does go up if it was never pressed on CD or vice versa where there is only one format.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience it depends on the artist and what the misprint is that will determine if it’s valuable or not. It also matters how many copies were printed before they corrected it. I have misprints but it’s the entire run, so there aren’t any that are correct which the one I have not very valuable since it’s the only one that was issued and not limited.

    those bmg pressings without the barcodes on them aint worth jack shit!!!! i disagree with quite a few of these comments and i dont even work in a quality store just years of collecting expierence and knowledge is all you need to know what something is fairly valued and priced!!1 you dont need people like this to tell you why some of these shit original pressings on cds are terribel sounding, but then again most of the remastered stuff is soooo overly compressed its not even worth a single listen-to each his own and just use common sense not someone elses opinion just because they work in a store means nothing to me!!!!
