As far as I know, Subtext is basically the hidden meaning behind a scene or a dialogue. Subtext can also be included with the help of a motif, an object that keeps appearing in the narrative to signify a particular meaning. In 3 idiots, the most frequently appearing subtext is don't run behind numbers and awards. Run behind gaining knowledge. Only then you can achieve true excellence.
