What a great gift is this poem and testament to Vin's life, to Vin, his family, friends, people who knew and admired Vin, and those who are yet to discover him. Thank you Paddy McEvoy. And as always, thank you Vin.

Nice tribute Paddy. In Vin's memory we must share his music with the world. Celebrate his life and his music.

A warm and erudite tribute from Paddy to his long-term and dear friend of Vin, and his family. Two great souls.

I have never heard a finer tribute than this.
It evokes everything I feel about Vin and beautifully articulates many depths and truths I had never recognised.
Vin was a consummate artist and musician, and a profoundly compassionate man, committed to making people laugh, cry and think. What a life well spent.
In her 70s, my mother-in-law moved from Ayresome Park Road, Middlesbrough to be near her beloved grandchildren here in Bedfordshire around 2002. We took her to see Vin at Hitchin Folk Club around 2009. She was totally delighted but later admitted it was the only time she ever felt homesick. Vin was the embodiment of so much that is good and great about Teeside and its people.
This reminds me of one of Vin's stories. I hope I have remembered it accurately. On tour in the Far East a Brit approached Vin in the interval. She was in floods of tears, clearly moved by a song celebrating Middlesbrough that Vin had just performed. Consoling her, Vin asked, 'Are you from Boro?' The homesick ex-pat replied through choked sobs, 'No, but I went there once.'

Grand words Paddy and I'm delighted to hear you speak them with such heart.
I knew Vin a little bit, but that little bit meant a lot to me.

Many thanks Paddy. A rich and just eulogy. A beautiful man. I'm much enriched from knowing him. (ex-Ab Dabs from 1973. So you're the reason I found & love him!)
