    When it comes to Turntable reviews on YT, the only person I trust 100% is Mojaxx tbh. Dude has like 100 years of experience, owns a dozen TTs and is the only person who really examines his test units in-depth. It's amazing how superficial some of the DJ turntable reviews are on YT and other platforms. Mojaxx' experience really pays off!

    Killer platter. Of all the models that have tried to match a 1200 or beat it I think denon nailed that part. Tone arm is light and feels cheaper then the rest of the deck. The pitch slider has dead points on the top bottom and at zero thats why the 10 segment is still technically 8% pitch adjustment. I just got one 2 months ago and Im enjoying it very much. I have a Str8-150, 2 TTX, and have owned 1200 mk3 & m5g and vestax pdx 2000 & pdx3000. They all have strong and weak points. Denon is on the level and the price has dropped 200+/- since it discontinued so now its more reasonable.

    Wow Mojaxx that's one hell of an honest review. I'm with you in the thought that Denon would have made something incredible or an improvement on the Super OEM. Nice to hear they started from scratch but have clearly missed the mark on a few minor details. Having Stanton STR8-150's I like the less weight but I don't see me buying a new set any time soon still. The only possible relief I see from the rattle on the tone arm is when Pulse is released.

  • @sj1604

    Thanks for the review I was torn between the new Stanton's STR8 150 and this video was the decider for me and I went out and bought a pair of the Denon VL12 Primes and they are a cracking Turntable. Just what I had been looking for these turntable don't disappoint, these are the most exciting new turntable since the Technics Mk'2

    I wish they'd revisit the DJ151 concept, and come out with a modern, by-passable digital version that can speed adjust while accurately maintaining pitch while playing real vinyl. But a pair of these plus 2 SC5000's and an X1800 seems like almost a dream setup.

    A beautiful turntable. If radio ever returns to live D.J.'s this would be great for broadcast use as well. As would the Technics 1200 mk II.

    Reloop RP 7000 mk2 are the best Turntable for your buck at the present time. I love the 1210/1200's don't get me wrong but between a used Technics and a box fresh Reloop it would be the 7000mk2 all day. Also like to point out the Gemini PT 2000 was and still is a great turntable (I noticed the couple of remarks in the review) and can be had for a bargain price too. :-)

    Just got a pair.. From turntablist to turntablist: They are not that great if you are technical. The feel of the platter isn't right to me after growing up with Techs and Vex. The platter has so much torque and weight it will stall out in the middle of a complicated cut or juggle. This makes certain tricks and unique accents more challenging. I guess turning and off the platter will be a trick of the passed with this table. Not easy to turn on/off and takes a few seconds to turn on.
    That's the only bad thing I have to say about them. They are pretty well built and function great for traditional mixing.

    I don't understand why manufacturers *INSIST* on having no click and 0-pitch. It made sense in "ye olden days" when the sliders were analog and there actually were a bit of play around the 0-pitch region but pitch controllers today are *DIGITAL* which means that if the slider is at 0 *YOU'RE ON 0-PITCH!*

    • @vapon
      @vapon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      because the click sense it's annoying for djs to play around zero position. Most of TT have an extra button for zero pitch anyway.

    Best cd recording. For those dj set demos. Denon. Best club cdjs. Pioneer. Best radio station cdjs. Denon. Best mixer ever made. Djm 500. Followed by the djm600. Best scratch deck that isnt technics. Vestax. Best old school mixers, Numark. I wish they'd have ditched reinventing the wheel and took the invention and engineering and put it into making these sync up with the PRIME SERIES set up - ethernet port for the 1800X... I'm sure they could've done some sort of melding with the turntable since it's a Digi pitch. Same company owns Rane and DenonDJ yea? What if these had the midi feature that the RANE 12s have AND a similarly powerful Dir Drive motor and Tone Arm?
    I'm swooning now...

  • @subwax
    @subwax 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Mojaxx - first off, i have to say that I love your reviews - always come here to see what you think of a product before I buy it. In saying that though, I am slightly disappointed in this review though - there is no mention of the ridiculous dead zones in the pitch, at the top, middle and bottom - what a complete waste of time doing that - it limited the pitch range by 25%. I cat see how anyone would be happy with these at all. How did you manage to overcome this, as you must have done to state you'd be happy with them?
    Not a Denon hater at all - I have 3 SC5000's and an X1800 - i'd love to get a pair of VL12'a to play all my records on, but I just cant see how you can use these with those dead zones. Maybe I am missing something here.

    • @upstarter
      @upstarter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not arguing at all, you've obv. experienced something that didn't come up to snuff. 25 year dj vet... I fought tech abandonment for years... going with Traktor first, then Scratch Live which IMO was BETTER than Serato DJ (although isotope fx, PnT, it's "Pioneering".....hehe.... in technology that fixes waiver etc is obv. better than back then. I just valued what it was. CockRock stable and was designed specifically to insert a PC as a source of media in my exact and existing a the time current workflow with out a hitch. There was just a purity to that. I still don't know why I sold my techs, I miss that hoe every other Sunday including Holidays ;)
      But to be a sane person and follow up to your question or comment the 3 I played on for two months constantly at a friends crib in Wales were surprisingly perfect to what I was expecting them to be. I walked in clowning her about them. I ended up looking the clown. Now I run Prime Players selling my Nexus 2 set and pocketed 3G USD and got DenonDJ kit with features that make Pioneer look like f*)& boys.

    Very interested in a new set of decks, had Technics my whole life but my last set was Stanton 150’s which were EPIC apart from play in the tonearm which did my head in!
    It’s a choice between these, PLX 1000 or Audio Technica 140’s to save some cash....
    Any ideas? I play D&N from late 90’s plus garage of the same period.
    Suggestions?

    RGB is kinda of a gimmick, but it's a nice add-on.
    What would be dope would be having a link between turntables and cdj's. Imagine DVS between the SC5000 and the turntables via some link, and having the VL12 RGB's showing info such as where you are in the tracks, and if you're in a loop or not. That would be dope!
    Any ways as cool as they are I prefer the PLX1000, RGB isn't something I look for, exept if it shows me information somehow...

    Mojaxx, I’ve been in the industry many years, used Numark mixers in the 90’s, then I got a pair of Technics 1210’s replacing my cheap numark belt drives. @Mojaxx, thanks for the review. I am an early adopter of the vl12 and i got 1 last year in october at my local guitar center. I don't play gigs and i am a bedroom DJ. But the very first thing I noticed was the skipping of the cartridge. At that time there weren't any reviews out on this deck so I chopped it up to be an issue with my cheap ikea desk. I still to this day cannot get the weight/height adjustment right and my Shure M447 skips so much. Only time i can get the cartridge to not skip so much is when I'm using control vinyl. What is your weight/height settings on it for scratching?

    Hey Chris, great review as always!! They do look like a solid deck. Would a video on the state of Turntables in 2018 be an idea? Do I spend money giving my 1210's much needed tlc, would you go after a pair of MK5G's and pay the price these decks command? Or is there a hidden Handpin OEM worth buying? After 20 odd years as a dj I find myself in 2018 needing a second pair of decks and this is the hardest buying decision I've ever had to make!

    Very Nice review - the maths mess at 4:30 made me chuckle. That really is stupid how did a mess like that pitch range selection and scale marking make it into production on what otherwise looks a very well thought out design? Like you I eyeball the dots on the platter rim occasionally... So I want two sets of markers at least. I do really like the styling. I intensely like the styling! That brushed aluminium top with countersunk allen bolts looks really functional and industrial - and therefore very stylish. Still it's not the OG ;-) BTW I asked a genuine Japanese person about Technics vs Techniques pronunciation and this is what they said. Either, or neither. It's in the middle. Japanese people say Tech-a-niks, or sometimes Teck-a-neeks. I say Technics personally. Unless it said Techniques, it is clearly from the Latin 'Technic' which is pronounced as written, so my theory is the US flavour stems from an accent mispronunciation by someone from Matsushita or some rep once up on a time!

    How do the VL12's perform for ripping vinyl, is the isolation/audio quality anywhere close to 1200's? My only gripe with my Super OEMs is that they're trash for archiving purposes, even though I prefer them over Tecnics for DJing. A modern platform with some modest audiophile credentials would be dope.

      yeah it seems sound quality wise you cant do nothing wrong buying them. i had a chance to compare a reloop 7000 and a old vestax a2 with real vinyl and the vestax sounded significantly better.(although the vestax had a strange hum when the record was not playing) maybe it or the vestax pdt 5000 would be a cheap alternative for you.

      No, the unit has an annoying echo and also a standard 1200, which havent been upgraded, won't be able to perform on high enough grade. My mk-5 which is less old old and is upgraded(powersource feeet, arm+wires replacement etc. will do the job, but another hobby of me is hifi,so if i was you i would buy a descent vintage record player, after checking pages like vinyl-engine and buy a descent needle for 100euroand buy or built(chinese sets) for phono amp with a descent a/d converter to usb inside. Just ask the question on hifi sites

    What is differents between digital and analog pitch fader ?

    • @manukkee
      @manukkee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the brand, but it is a difference of feel mostly. The most desired are the Technics older models that used analog pitch like the : m3d, mk3d, mk5 and the mk2 or mk3 with the center click at 0. Analog pitch = preferred by DJs, mostly because they all compared it with the digital pitch used in the M5G model, which was fine but not perfect for some DJs. Now days digital pitch controls improved and it's more a matter of feel than precision.

    Befor buying this Turntable take a look on the Pitchfader behavior. Mojexx is not reviewing it!
    The pitch has 3 deadzones where it is not working. The biggest is around the Zero, around 1,5cm pitch is not working. In total there is 25% Pitch not working.
    This makes it very difficult to beatmatch. For example if you play a track a little bit slower than 0% and the next track you try to beatmatch is a little bit faster than the other track you need to move the Pitch 1.5 cm.
    This cant be pland by production, i thing they put a product with bugs on the marked and try to cover it with dum reasons why it is like this (Denon says it helps the dj to ajust the track faster on original speed)

    This deck has disappeared off the market. It looks like it was a great design, but I don't think it sold well. That's a shame too, because it's a lot better than the Technics MK7 and they really added a lot of great features to the deck. People are still suckers for brand names though and would have rather spent $300 - $400 more on a new (or used!) Technics than to give this great deck from Denon a try. Hopefully the fate of this deck doesn't dissuade other turntable manufactures from trying to throw their hat into the ring and come up with something new and great like Denon did.

    I have been gigging with them for about 8 months now and on 3 different gigs they have randomly gone hyper speed and spins so fast it shakes the whole table. it can't go that fast even if i set everything to max. Even then you press the start stop it won't stop. have to unplug it to get it back to normal. Also having huge problems with the pitch and it cannot hold a consistent bpm anymore. it can be seen with the markings on the side and also in whatever software i use. i have a pair of them and both have these issues. i think i need to bring them back and get a new pair. Has anyone else had these issues?

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Nishihata That definitely sounds like you got a faulty pair (early production maybe?) - I know a couple of longer term users who’ve had no issues like that. I’d definitely look at getting those sorted under warranty.

    • @dtwistrewind7361
      @dtwistrewind7361 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Nishihata bottom line is that a digital pitch is never going to be as accurate as a analogue pitch it's increments of speed change are way to large compared to an analogue pitch all the digital turntables have that very same issue in fact the plx1000 from pioneer is even worse than the denon.

    • @bias69
      @bias69 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a complete nonsense, analog accuracy is limited by fader's length - there is always a minimum move you can make with it (let's say half a millimetre). I'm sure the sampling rate is way higher, so the only limit comes from analog part.

    • @dtwistrewind7361
      @dtwistrewind7361 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      bias69 bless you and your lack of knowledge,my ears are analogue my limbs are also, digital is on or off 0 or 1 how much more control do you have with an analogue control stick compared to a dpad,do your own research and get back to me I've only owned turntables for 30 years what do I know lol.

    • @bias69

      Can you change tempo of a record by 0.001% with your analog pitch? Would that even be audible or matter while mixing?

    Pioneer Stanton Denon... its interesting to see that no new dj TT, no matter how much they try to copy or do something better, can compare with the 1200...I only like the Vestax pdx cause they invent some cool org. features like straight tonearm, ultrapitch and midi for Turntablists...
    One for sure - this is the last deck i would buy...useless led lights and ugly in general...i mean they looking more cheap than they are =D... But hey you a very good dj stuff promoter...

      Yes, what an ugly toy this Denon is, the design is HORRIBLE....then the others like Reloop, Stanton, Pioneer, Numark, they all lack the design and the smooth perfect feel of the Japanese made Technics. Kids think it's only about performance and the amount of functions....LOL, it's about quality, design, perfection, smoothness , tactile feel and orgasm when looking at the Technics .

      I tried out the Reloop 7000 mk2 and the VL12 theres not a lot between them. If you need to adjust the brake and motor then go for the reloop. they cost the same for a pair as one VL12. I like the recessed plater on the Denon its like a 1210. The build quality and feel of the denon is just a little bit better. The reloop also has a line output switch but I have always used phono outputs so it has never been something I need.

    Bought one , but they had to make the table 200euro more expensive and remove stuff like the rgb ring or make it as as .ption. Then they could have made a reliable drive-part unit and the tone-arm better, which looks cheap and simply is built low grade. And the built is very shitty for placing cables and changing the color. I bought one,but when i stop the platter it wobbles a moment front to back....WRONG and start stop knobs . Normally i use for scratching a pdx 2000 pdx 3000mix(vestax 3000 is well built with descent gear on the inside when it comes to capacitor quality and printquality(which is shitty on the technics mk5....so carefull with soldering,but few peoples take the oppurtunity to upgrade their 1200,simply by replacing the 15 year old caps resistors/cables tonearm wire); Rebuild mk5, and a denon sc3900, with mostly a denon x1600 mixer, with trplaced connectors cause those are a cheap factor they've used,but a great mixer also when it comes to inside parts.
    I send the denon dj vl 12 back, so i can't open it, bit it would be nice if someone would take a look inside--->then we'll see if it's real crappy or just build on a budget. Looking at the kind of motor they've used, it would't wonder me that it's real chinese. I mean looking at their own built mediaplayer motors and accuracy it's strange they have a lot of probleblems with a simpler turntablemotor.
    But it's too bad very few vestax pdx 3000mk2 are for sale... or the mix , parts enough for sale ,only not cheap, just like with technics.

      hellaflushhonda why would you need more then standard pitch ? Audio techincas have a digital pitch that's even worse then most others out there , technics is solid pitch , most DJs prefer analog original pitch as it was more accurate , some DJs today prefer digital as it don't have a click

      Turntablists have a lot of use for a higher torque and wider pitch range, I use +-50 regularly. Broken tracklights, need for soldering rcas, power cables, constant pitch adjusting etc. made me ditch my 1200's a decade ago for a pair of Hanpins and haven't looked back. Sure, 1200's are great, but if I was starting DJing now, there would be little reason to pay ludicrous prices for 2nd hand Technics...
