Snow in Christchurch NZ 25th July 2011

Got taken for a scenec drive today and took the camera to see the snow and a little bit of the damage outside the cordons in Christchurch, New Zealand.
It is winter here but we haven't had snow that settled like this for almost 18 years.

@TheBedfordboyz We considered that to apply to people in inappropriate vehicles and/or with no experience. My driver had both plenty of experience and the vehicle (4x4 with chains in the back just in case) for the conditions.

Wow! That looks amazing.
I slept through most of that big snow. Still had to de-ice my driveway today to get the car out though.
What's the bet that's the first time most of the 4x4s in the video have ever actually been used as a 4x4, or even got dirty for that matter :D

@peeteey - Its me driving. We weren't in 4wd and the Prado does get regular use off road. Your right in that many shiny 4wd drivers out there being oh so proud of themselves. We decided to do something useful and take my mother to work at the hospital rather than head to the hills for a play. Very gallant of us ;-)

I think you made the right choice too in taking your mum to work rather than going up the hills. I spent a few hours digging my driveway out so I could get the car down it without killing myself or others. Ice galore!

It was 5 years ago, google says it was 30cm to near sea level. We don't normally see anything much settle here. The old met service blog said this.... Monday 25th July: 2011's coldest day so far
In New Zealand, the coldest days of the year are usually in late July or early August.
The most significant cold snap since 1995 gripped the nation from late Friday 22 July until late on Monday 25 July. Significant amounts of snow fell in the south and east of both islands, with over 30 cm to near sea level reported in the Christchurch area..... We all got the day off work, yay.

I don't think so, it does happen there occasionally though that was a good one.
