How to Play Cyborg in Dungeons & Dragons (DC Comics Build for D&D 5e)

- Today we breakout our Eberron book and figure out what we can do with the new Artificer and Warforged with a build for Cyborg in D&D 5e! As much as I love starting with an artificer unfortunately if you multi-class with fighter it does not give you heavy armor proficiency the easiest way to fix that is just start as a fighter you still get con save proficiency and then just second level artificer and plus you can easily make a reason for being you are a fighter before you became a cyborg and the artificer is representation of your new cyborgness

Nice. Another way would be to grab a level in Cleric with a domain that gives you the proficiency too.

Weird as it may sound, Air Genasi might fit better with the fact she can survive in the airless vacuum of space. But that's just me.
@@josephperez2004 excellent point. Other question would be what class? I could see her being either a sorcerer or maybe a warlock built completely around the eldritch blast since her main method of fighting is green energy blasts.
@@iselreads2908 Sorcerer or Warlock does sound about right. I'd maybe go more with Sorcerer since her powers seem to be inborn rather than from a deal she made, and Sorcerers do seem to be maybe slightly tanker than Warlocks. Star is no slouch in physical combat after all. Figuring the origin seems tricky though. From the two base ones the Draconic origin seems better, but chances are there are better options.
I'd say maybe crossclass with Sunsoul Monk nut hard to find a good mix.
@@josephperez2004 when you bring that into context, sorcerer does make more sense. Far as origin goes, Star isn't really much of a dragon. Wild Magic would make a bit more sense if that's the case. But then there's the possibility of a wild magic surge which isn't completely in character, but it could maybe just be a weird tweak for the world. As far as the more martial prowess Starfire possesses, I agree 100% on the Sun Soul monk. Martial Arts, unarmored movement and unarmored defense are all perfect fits for the more generalized abilities she has. Adding throwing lasers on top of that and it works fantastically.
Joseph Perez Sorcerers are not more tanky than warlocks. Sorcerers have a d6 hit die and no armor proficiency. Warlocks have a d8 and atleast light armor proficiency

Also, the next Titan has GOT to be Starfire. I desire to perform the roleplaying.
Sun soul monk for all the attacks and either find something that gives you flying or put enough points in wizard to get yourself fly is probably the most straightforward route. Doing sun soul monk over something like a flavored eldritch blast makes sense because Starfire is highly mobile (evasion, high dex, etc) and if I recall she eats some nasty things that make other people sick (purity of body) and she's pretty good at picking up new languages, albeit not instantly (tongue of sun and moon). Plus, having slow fall if your fly spell wears off midflight is always a good thing to have. The limited range and pretty weak damage of the Radiant Sun Bolt is a big draw but if you take spellsniper it'd have the pretty normal range of 60 ft. All in all, a flying monk is practically never going to get hit but she'd also be pretty weak in an actual fight because, unlike melee monks, she wouldn't be actively using her bonus action to punch opponents. In my opinion, anyway.
The New Teen Titans was the very first comic series that I read as a kid, and Cyborg is my favorite character from the team. Loved it!

I got the new Eberron book for Christmas. Reading it got me really excited, especially the new Artificer class and the new races. Even without the character attachment, this is a really nice build for an Eberron campaign.

The most unrealistic part about the Justice League movie was the idea that a teenager wasn't totally stoked about being a robot.
To be fair, 2003 Cyborg doesn’t like being a one low key cause of his limits.

I’d swap dexterity with either charisma or wisdom. It’d be good to take dexterity out of the negatives, give your frequent use of ranged attacks.

"Boo-hoo-ooya", wow, I think that is one of the better criticisms I've read of the Justice League movie. It is certainly the more laconic.
As for the build itself, it sounds a lot like Cyborg: very tough, skilled with tools and just as likely to punch a villain's face in as blast them with a sonic cannon.

Man I didn't remember how many Cyborg episodes there where of Teen Titans until I watched this footage. I guess Robin and Raven episodes just stick out in my memory more.

I really wanna see what you could do with the characters from Yu Yu Hakusho. Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama are all a given, but there are some really interesting characters in there too like Jin, Chu, and even the Toguro brothers.

Great video! I was actually trying to figure out how to do the Iron Man build now that Eberron was officially released. Was talking with a friend and we thought Dante from Dante's Inferno might be a cool idea using polearm master. Keep up the amazing work!

Dont know if it was out at the time of this build being made but infiltrator armored seems perfect for cyborg. You can have a limbless character who moves around because of the armor he's attached to. Plus you can shoot lightning from your fist
Hey Tulok, Nice Work as always man, let me ask you something: which of your builds would you recommend for an adventure that doesn't go all the way to level 20?
All of them go to 20, just in case your campaign goes there. As for builds that start off strong early, Vader is pretty great
All of the Star Wars builds are great! Palpatine, for example, gets everything you need at level 5.

Recommendation: He uses the "Mea Culpa" Sword ("My guilt") a sword that has thorns in it's handle that grows like a tree using the blood of the penitent one as water; as the penitent one fights he is hurt by it (he loses hp as he fights) so he gains "fervor" (like mana but in Blasphemous there is no magic, only the favor of "The miracle" to perform miracles) as he loses HP he gains power. A high risk player phase character, holy affinity. Zealot level 5, Martyr level 10, Saint level 15, The last son of the miracle level 20. Skills: Attrition (if The penitent one

Tulok the Barbrarian Yeah, that’d make sense. Cool as it was to try and get every single aspect of her into one build, I can definitely see wanting to do her in her armor and Zero Suit as two separate builds
Awesome work as always! I always like the superhero builds. But would you ever do some more of the OG heroes like you did with Zorro (another great build)? Maybe Conan the Barbarian or Red Sonya or Kull the Conqueror? I know they're kinda cliché for D&D, but would still be cool to see your take on them.
Champions improved critical only works on weapon attacks so it doesn't wok with scorching ray. Nitpicking aside; love the video.
I honestly think this is one of the better builds that he's made in this series.
Episode 118 of the Fire Emblem stats: Victor Stone.
Cyborg is great with heavy armor (since he's mostly heavy armor), brawling (metal punches hurt), both types of magic (which the cannon arm counts as), and riding (he's the Titan car driver).
He's bulky with a lot of magic and strength at his disposal but he's pretty slow and unlucky.

I am most familiar with Cyborg from the Teen Titans cartoon and I think the aspect I liked best was him being the big brother of the team.
Improved Critical only lets you crit with weapon attacks
Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
I know this could be a long shot, but I'd love to see Optimus Prime as a Warforged Druid/Paladin.
Maybe try to Make Diamondhead from ben10. My personal build is earth genasi stone sorc (or shardmind if the gm allows homebrew) but I'd be curious to see it done

@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 I specifically mentioned diamondhead as, unlike beastboy, a lot of the aliens have a crap ton of abilities by themselves, and of the classic ones diamondhead has more versatility that a lot of spells could replicate (ice knife, earth tremor, etc)

Love the build, but quick question, does 5th still have the half golem from 3ed? I had a character that ended up one after I lost my left arm, leg, and eye in the same blast.
No half golems in 5e. Reskin something or Homebrew your own

I was a Torbjorn main from the beginning. Havent played enough to adjust to his "new" kit

Any tips for playing against type like a barbarian with high intelligence as well as strength and con or a rogue who is very strong?
A smart Barbarian could just be an intelligent person with anger issues, or it could be a Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde set up. Or if you want to be a more traditional, tribal Barbarian you could have also been your tribe’s historian or teacher. Or maybe you used to be typical brute until you ventured out into the world and a new friend opened your eyes to science.
As for a strong rogue, aside from the classic “you no see Grog!” meme, maybe you were the muscle for a local gang or maybe you used to be an athlete before being blackmailed or otherwise pressured into a life of crime.
This also reminds me of a Goliath Backguard I used to play in 4E. She was trained in Stealth and Bluff, but I seem to always fail those rolls. So she would always attempt a more subtle approach first, but she would always fail and immediately fall back on brute force and intimidation without a second of hesitation. Her usual order of operations was: try to sneak -> get caught -> murder everybody.

I think it'd be cool if you did a cuphead/mugman build, I know it'd be a halfling with sorcerer levels and maybe some monk ones for jumping and flipping.

Gambit is a paladin who's DM lets him smite with improvised thrown weapons
Don't forget, you don't get heavy armor from multiclassing into fighter, so you would have to start with fighter or take a feat to get it.

Rayla, especially like the gloom stalker, but i think a fighter shadow monk could also work.
Soren- not a paladin, doesnt really have any magical abilities, and hes not religious. Id go fighter, perhaps a champion, as i dont think he has the charisma/leadership skills to pull off the latter

Since you just said you don't want to revisit characters may I suggest some to try out slight variations... Steel (dc comics) Booster Gold (Dc comics) and war machine (mcu) don't do them all at once but slowly redo power armor s

Honestly, i liked the idea of a somewhat fresh and newly made Cyborg being mopey and sad, so we can see him coming to grips with his situation. And itd make the followup appearances of him being more light and jokey more potent

How are you getting Heavy Armour? Multi-classing into Fighter only gives you Light and Medium. The only ways to get heavy if multi-classing into a heavy armour class is to go Cleric and choose one of the Domains that gives heavy armour (ie War Cleric). Or you could take the feat, giving you proficiency.
My bad. Switch the first level for fighter, build works then
I've become curious as to how one could play Ultimecia (or any sorceress) from FF8. I'm thinking something along the lines of just Sorcerer, or Sorlock. She needs to be able to manipulate time (stopping/slowing/hastening), summon a familiar (Greiver), basic elemental control, and mind control. I'm sure there may be something I'm missing, but you know how to do your research lol.
When there's trouble you know who to call, call Tulok, he can shoot a rocket from his shoe, because he's Tulok.... (Hope not too obscure)

Multi clasding into fighter only gives u. Light and meduim only way to get heavy armor after 1st is some clerics and the feat
Can you make a build for an assassin from assassins creed like ezio or the one from the third assassins creed
Would've loved 14 levels in artificer to get rocket punch (i.e. Arcane Propulsion Arm) but I do feel Victor needs the Remarkable Athlete feature.
