George wrote such uplifting music!! How can you not feel something spiritual listening to this (no matter what your beliefs might be). He didn't care who/what you followed, just that you aspired to be a good person and loved your fellow humans, and the world as a whole. RIP George.

Well, yes and no. We will never know what John might have done. We had a taster on 9 October 1980, his 40th birthday. I bought it and was on cloud 9. He was back; I was ecstatic. Exactly 2 months later (4 days after my birthday) he was murdered. So up to a point yes, but we will never truly know. Breaks my heart. Oh and never, ever mention the murdering bastard's name. That's what he wanted, to have his name linked to John's forever. He's the assassin, the murdering bastard or the killer. Ok, so have a great weekend, wherever you are. x love, peace and music from East Coast of England.

Love George Harrison but John Lennon Double Fantasy is pretty untouchable in the post-Beatles catalogs. Paul McCartney and Wings had quite a nice career. Linda was a big boost to Paul. But John Lennon's Imagine is the most important song post-Beatles.

George's All Things Must Pass is arguably the best of the all the Beatles solo albums. Ringo plays great drums on this song. George's slide guitar playing is instantly recognizable. Such a signature sound. He came up with this song after jamming with Billy Preston during a 1969 tour with Delaney and Bonnie when they were talking about great gospel music. George and Billy were very spiritual. Clapton played with them on that tour also.

Some of the songs on All Things Must Pass were ones he had written as a Beatle, but they had not made it to a Beatles album. (EDIT: Think For Yourself; If I Needed Someone; Taxman; I Want To Tell You; Within You, Without You; Blue Jay Way; The Inner Light; Only A Northern Song; Old Brown Shoe; While My Guitar Gently Weeps; Piggies; Long, Long, Long; I Me Mine; For You Blue; Something; Here Comes The Sun...Beatles songs written and sung by George...probably some more.)

Harrison began writing “My Sweet Lord” in December 1969, when he, along with Billy Preston and Eric Clapton were in Copenhagen, Denmark playing with Delaney & Bonnie’s band. It was in the middle of a productive and spiritual period that saw George producing Preston’s “That’s the Way God Planned It” and the “Hare Krishna” mantra of London’s Radha Krishna Temple, as well as writing songs with a spiritual theme for his own planned solo record.

George was involved in Eastern Mysticism, and Hinduism from his days as a Beatle. He was raised in a Christian family, but was always searching, as you hear in the lyrics of this song, where he say's (to Christ) "I really want to know you Lord, but it takes so long." Race car driver Emerson Fittipaldi, and longtime best friend Eric Clapton, are both Christians, and Clapton had been counseling George and telling him that Christ said there is only one way. "No man comes to the father except through me." When George was dying in the hospital with lung cancer, I guess everything got clear for him, and he and Eric Clapton prayed the sinner's prayer on his death bed. George admitted, that deep in his heart all of these years, he knew Christ was the truth.
What a wonderful story. I saw Eric Clapton on a video telling this story and it made him cry.
    Thanks guys

All were members of some-sort with Delaney an Bonnie Bramlett including George. When traveling for a European tour, Clapton and Harrison played guitar for them. The song My Sweet Lord, has only two singers on it. Harrison on vocals, and Whitlock as backup harmony. No one better. It is during the recording of this album not only did Clapton become obsessed with George's wife Patty Boyd, the band Derick and the Dominos was formed consisting of Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, and Jim Gordon

Simply put, man. Listen to "Isn't It A Pity?". George wrote it back in 1966 during the Revolver album period.

George remade this tune in 2000. It's called My Sweet Lord 2000. It was released on the 30th anniversary of All Things Must Pass. Georgia's first solo album. ✌️

What a beautiful human being, to be a devout Christian, and to take everything Eastern religion has to offer, and to just fold it in, to what is already known, with no dispute, or need to debate. It's love. There isn't any other thing any religion, doctrine, or belief has to offer, but love. Everything would be better, with more love, and less hate, regardless of who deserves which or the other.

George had quite a number of songs that he wrote as a bandmate in The Beatles, that he submitted for a single or album. This track brought a lawsuit against him by The writer of The Shirrells song: He's So Fine. He later did a track about that lawsuit called THIS SONG. might check it out sometime. It's a satire of the lawsuit brought against him for MY SWEET LORD.

Those guitar strums between the lead that Harrison plays are brilliant. Harrison had a guitar style that would be Very noticeable to anyone. Thank you both.

Director Martin Scorsese made a documentary about George, titled Living in the Material World.
You should check it out. It gives great insight into George.

George went to India along with the other Beatles and studied TM with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He also learned to play the sitar with Ravi Shankar in India and later in London he met Swami Prabhupada the founder of the global Hare Krishna Movement. Thus, he was exposed to eastern religions including Hindi in his search for a spiritual life. What you heard was the Hindi language and a mantra evoking different names or avatars of some of the Hindi gods. Some of these names in the Sanskrit language, are Hare, Krishna and Rama. The lyrics mention the following: ”Guru Brahma” - the Lord of Creation, “Guru Vishnu” - the Lord who is called organizer, “Guru Devo Maheshwarah” refers to Lord the destroyer; “Tasmai Shree Guruve Namah” means we bow to the Guru; “Guru Sakshat Parabrahma” is the supreme god or almighty. These meaning and translations are what I’ve read but I’m not an expert so translations could have other meanings. George's song reflects his deep spiritual journey and his openness to enlightenment from other philosophies.

As producers and musicians you HAVE to watch the Get Back documentary by Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame. He delved into 60 hours of rushes filmed in the studio back in 1969 when the Beatles composed and recorded songs for the Let It Be, movie which came out after they broke up. The movie left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth, but the more complete sessions show a much more complex situation where friends who've been playing together for fifteen years have matured and grown as musicians and individuals. First half shows tensions and Paul directing pushing and second portion more collective and together with Billy Preston joining the four. Amazing six part documentary on Disney or down loadable. George's feeling left out is part of it and he brings in Billy which dissolves the tension to a great degree. It is a must see for music lovers and musicians and all the more so if you appreciate the Beatles.

The Beatles were only together from 1956 to 1970. George was only 14 or 15! Paul was a bit older. They were all teens when they started. They were only HUGELY POPULAR from very late 1963 to 1970. Then they broke up. In the beginning, John and Paul were the only songwriters. They often helped George write his songs, till George could write completely on his own. He was finally able to write on his own after 1967. But by this time John and Paul’s songs were becoming more sophisticated. But they recognized that he was getting very good. After Abbey Road album, John and Paul decided if they were to do another album together, they would give George 4 songs and John and Paul would each get 4 songs, too. And Ringo would get 2 songs. You see, Ringo was songwriting by then, too! During the Get Back sessions (which crested the Let it Be album, George and John discussed George creating a solo album because he had so many songs in his inventory, with nowhere album to put them on. John suggested they should both do that, too. Paul didn’t hear that conversation. They should have done it. The bigger problem was the contract they had all signed with their new manager, Alan Klein, which Paul didn’t trust…and he wanted the Beatles to get out of that contract. The other 3 disagreed. So Paul left the Beatles, primarily, so the contract would be null and void! They were all pissed off at Paul. They all sued him. But Paul was right, in the end…and they all eventually realized it. Klein was ripping them off! Paul sued Klein. Snd literally saved the Beatles fortunes snd legacy!
In the 6-7 years at the Beatles peak, they charted 21 number #1 songs… unheard of, even today. 34 more songs charted in the Top 10. And 71 more songs charted in the Top 40, in radio rotation! Every album hit #1. That’s an insane record. Paul’s solo song, Yesterday, is in the Guinness book of records as having the most covers of all time. 2200+ artists have covered that song! They have all gone Diamond. They still outsell every band to this day.

It wasn't until this album that I heard his unusual slide guitar style, which used more major notes than the usual blues based slide guitar style of most rock players. He wrote most of his lyrics, and here shows his ongoing interest in forms of Hinduism, introduced to him by his sitar teacher Ravi Shankar. He went from being into Transcendental Meditation to being involved in the Hare Krishna movement as reflected in the chant like background vocals.

Yeah man, George had it! He was such a unique talent, all of the Beatles were unique talents. The way they grew up together was a true miracle. Yes, they had their differences but I truly believe that they loved each other. John got fed up with the business of it all, Paul was a "pop" king and really into the business of it, Ringo was the serious beat man, ask a drummer to play some of his stuff, and George was the spiritual soul. 45 years since I started listening to music and they are still my all time faves! You guys rock, I've really enjoyed following you!

Oh yeah, he wrote ALL of THIS. He was so special. This song always resonated with me. It's a mantra in many respects. But in terms of BEATLES, where they ended was a natural progression for 4 talented world famous YOUNG guys that were mainly pop stars in their day. But of course they were each evolving musically & personally which always makes for contention. Honestly, I think that added to their individual creativity. They certainly never bored me as Beatles or solo artists.

George did a lot of great songs or interesting songs with the Beatles too: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Something, Here Comes the Sun, Taxman, Love You Too, Within You Without You etc. But he was very limited by the others, so All Things Must Pass was just an explosion of things held back, the breakout of a major talent. I always liked Beware of Darkness, and I particularly like this version where Sheryl Crow sings it solo while only playing piano at her home/studio(?). It's very stripped down nice version: th-cam.com/video/nSTxONSiZDU/w-d-xo.html
