- 30 years ago there were over 500 pure, unpolluted freshwater sites in Ireland, now there are only 21 left. Ecologist Anja Murray explores the decline of Ireland's high status water sites, home to the endangered Freshwater Pearl Mussel.
On her journey she learns what can be done to bring them back to better health.
Glencar is looking very well!
Great but I am wondering why you only mention agriculture and forestry as being contributors to the ecocide of our waterways and not the pharmaceutical giants. Ireland acts as a pollution haven for these companies, who left the US after the Clean Water Act in the 70s in search of somewhere with little or no legislation that they could freely pollute. This deterioration of waterways in only the last 30 years aligns with this; I would imagine they are major contributors to this dire situation.
