Everyone's an ELO guesser until Gotham arrives.
Ya i mean even in the episodes the man is crazzyyy accurate, like he's really good at it
@@fornito530 He has been doing this for months, so no surprise here
I was super happy, I guessed the 725 exactly! But to be fair its easy to see your own mistakes. lol
@@binnieb173 LoL
Tbh both Levy and Hikaru did pretty poorly on this one. How neither of them recognised those 1300s who kept missing basic tactics like forks, pins, and discoveries, and just overall kept shuffling pieces about with no intent whatsoever; or how both failed to pick up on starkingly obvious displays of understanding such as fianchettoing the bishop, finding pins, doubling the rooks on an open file, etc in that 1000 game; or how they were both oblivious to that 1500's overtly (relatively) high-level ideas such as restricting the opponent's most dangerous piece, opening up the position while the opponent's king is still in the centre, as well White's constant awareness of tactics such as pins and discoveries; is, frankly, beyond me. I wouldn't say that Levy ended Hikaru's elo-guessing career. More like Hikaru ended his own elo-guessing career tbh as he had an absolute shocker of a guessing spree (especially those completely inexplicable 1950, 2100, and 900 guesses).
26:00 I'm just below 1400 as well, and this is such a wild rating level. One game you are playing brilliantly, seeing cool tactics and sacrifices, with both players above 90% accuracy. Next game you're like: "whoops, blundered my queen on move 5".
Yeah, I am around the same level. Wild fluctuations in quality.
The amount of times I’ve played a great 10 minute game then blunder a opening trap next game because I was impatient is crazy
Yeah bro, I feel you, I am in similar stage 😁😁
u think u are playing brilliantly at 1400???? LOLLLL
@@nolanthomas4950 I once had a 95% accuracy game at 800, at these levels you're sort of just being lucky with your moves because you don't understand really what you should be doing
Hikaru: Hmm this looks high elo, lets say 2150.
Levy: They trash, 1000 take it or leave it.
I dont think you understand the meme correctly.
@@Curovicky Sorry, are you drunk?
@@Curovicky Sorry are you drunk
so who was drunk that day?
Answer the question.
WHO WAS DRUNK THAT DAY!?
Never knew how much I would enjoy seeing hikaru guess the elo, it really is like a billionaire guessing how much everyday groceries cost. Man is on an entirely different planet than the plebs he's rating.
Wow levy just ended hikaru’s EloGuessing career
levy is pretty accurate even on his episodes, he's always really really close
Hikaru merely adopted Elo guessing. Gotham was born in it and raised by it.
Hikaru sucks at elo guessing lol
@@ljm37 Hikaru merly adopted the Elo guessing. Gotham was born in it, molded by it, he didn't see the high elos until he was a grown man and by then it nothing to him but blinding.
@@currentmood9568 hikaru is so strong that he has trouble imagining what normal people at different levels play at.
Meyer: Plays blitz game on the toilet one day
Hikaru: I am so disappointed in Meyer
XD
Dude you play your best chess on the toilet, wdym.
@@jacobwest6884 nah I definitely play worse on the toilet lol I prefer being on my computer if I can
was he actually on the toilet that game lmao
@@N8teDiggity i prefer playing hyperbullet on my samsung smart fridge
They see too many layers on a move, which make them think it's a hard move. As a 1000, I just tries to improve my pieces without making a 1 move blunder.
Levy said "yeah, but it was an accident!" about 5 times, which was worth about 800 points in that game.
Right, I'm 1300 Lichess (which is what, 130 chess com?), and I see a lot of the moves Hikaru thinks you need to be a GM to see, but then I blunder back rank mate the next move
@@CheddarBro And knight maneuvers, rerouting bishops, pawn breaks, sac-ing pieces for passed pawns, exchange sacrifice, these kind of "advanced" things. I see them but I never know how good they actually are.
@@Starguy256 what’s the different between chess and lichess elo?
@@CheddarBro i dont think mind blank 1min just move move and hopexfor a win c:p.

“Idiots are people too” - Levy Rozman 2021
all idiots are people but not all people are idiots
@@reginaanderson6733 All people are idiots at something, but some people realize this and some people don't.
Meier did that? Really? Really? MEIER? DID THAT? REALLY. (continues for some time)
quite some time haha
Wait really? MEIER PLAYED THAT? Really? That?
Levy starts talki- “REALLY?! HE PLAYED Ne4?? REALLY?”
Really? I am so disappointed in Meier.
I don't mind being wrong but... Really!?
Levy is a chess player of the common man that's why he does well in ELO guessing. Hikaru is a super GM whose skills put him on a level with few others so it's harder for him to recognize the chess playing of the common person lol
I feel like his experience as a chess coach/teacher is a big reason as to why he does better
That and Levy's most iconic youtube series is about guessing Elo
I don't think Meier has disappointed someone so much in his life....
he was pretty disappointed
@@joethomas8342 i think he was surprised Meier really played knight e4
I love to see you guys together like brothers, discussing people's elo.
Hikaru is too strong and used to chess, I think he has a hard time imagining how sub IM people think about chess. And Levy was a chess teacher, so maybe it is more natural to him and the blunders not as surprising.
not to mention his guess the elo series which gave him additional experience
@@Tyler-bp4md Honestly he was already guessing pretty good near the beginning the series
@@JoeARedHawk275 I think Hikaru plays against lower ELO players quite a bunch too though. They probably both have a good understanding what changes with higher rated play. It's not easy to really pinpoint the exact ELO. And Levy _actually_ has pleeeenty of guess the ELOs where he was way way way off.
@@PHeMoX yeah but levy is like "oh he took on e6 to make d6 weak even though its a positional blunder" cause he teaches chess so he knows where the blunders come from and the train of thought, hikaru just says "this is so bad, this is terrible," cause hes been an master level player most of his life
It's def because Levy was a chess teacher. Hikaru got so good so quickly that he could probably life off playing pretty early on so wouldn't have needed to teach as much as Levy did.
Imagine if they REVIEW a old game of levy...and levy didn't recognise...and started yelling....😂😂😂
BOSS
So, the creator of that website actually did that to Levy. He saw Levy was streaming his website and changed it to only his games.
@@user-svqmbiv link?
@@Joe-bb4yi I kinda want it too
@@user-svqmbiv link
When Hikaru is hyperanalyzing a Bishop move by a 1300 player he looks at positional advantage and long term ideas. IRL 1300 players be like *I'm just trying not to blunder man*
I know it's hard to guess right, but in hindsight it's funny to see that the 1362 player was considered better than the 2452
29:30 Honestly queen takes pawn on b5 is literally the worst chess move I've ever seen LOL
I think this move can only be topped by playing something like Qd8 as black when there's a white pawn on c7/e7, the pawn takes and queens with back rank mate. I can't think of anything worse.
These two are the best! So much interesting content to keep us entertained!
What separates Hikaru and Levy from other chess streamers is their opinionated personalities. They are not afraid to honestly engage with chat, their fans and most importantly their haters, which is hilarious!
Lmao they literally called Meier an idiot in the first half lol
hikaru straight up changes his guess last minute to try and grab on to Gotham's genius without making it too obvious at the end to his chat
Thats the game
GuessTheElo series really paid off for levy
I have seen low rated players create the most amazingly complex positions. Some of them I bet would even confuse Tal. btw the position at 3:48 yes you want to play Ke3 or Kg3 but due to the related squares principle Kf3 puts your K on a square from which you can play either Ke3 or Kg3 depending on black's move. Kf3 looks more principled.
Hikaru: literally drops his bishop in a professional game against Magnus a few weeks ago
Also Hikaru: really? A gm played Ne4? Really? Really? I mean really?
He wants to look like he's the best and any other gm lower than his rating is just "meh". That's why he makes it look that other gms are stupid when they blunder but he himself isn't.
That was pretty bad but it wasn't in the opening tbf
Buuuut, that being said, I do feel hikaru was really going on a bit long about the ne4 blunder lol
@@mandycruz Oh so you’re the psychoanalyzing idiot Gotham was talking about when he recapped his game where he panicked into the hippo
Okay okay, stop crying kid. So how much love do you have for hikaru? Lol
Also don't start with "Oh" when you're gonna argue with someone. That makes you sound like a brat arguing with her boyfriend 😂
30:09 Qxb5 I was waiting for Hikaru to say: "Yeah, it shows very good understanding, 1 piece for 2 pieces, nice"
I thought the video title would be a funny diss to Levy's current tournament games and that the video would be a recap of one of Levy's games lol
That's exactly what I thought as well lmaoo
I thought that too
@@yagamilight5026 me too
I mean, he is posting those as well
12:35 just casually bans some people in chat
Levy: We wont show nicknames cuz u guys will write them mean messeges.
Hikaru: Yeah *frowns cuz he wanted to insult someone in their dms in the first ep but mods didnt allow it*
The bit where Levy tells Hikaru a trash talk story and Hikaru just TOTALLY ignores him and Levy is like :( is so good haha.
This is a message to Hikaru's editor: you're a legend bro, keep it up!!😂😂
gotta feel good being that 1300 with hikaru saying u played the game near optimally
This video series is one of my favorite on all of youtube! Keep it up Hikaru!
Chess Player: Plays
Hikaru: Yeah, I have no idea you guys
The disappointment on levy’s face after the first game was GOLD.
I think Hikaru is too good at chess he lost touch with the rest of us lol.
THE START MONTAGE THO
I feel like either the standard for lower rated chess players has gotten better or that grandmasters and international masters are so good at chess that they can't relate to being a beginner or being a intermediate player 🤔
levy the goat in guess the elo
Every single round is just: "I'll try to come up with something... I have no idea for this one guys"
Hikaru after every game: "I have no idea, you guys"
"I enjoyed it" You can see from his body language he HATES to lose at anything
As much as I like Hikaru’s content I hate his attitude sometimes. Such a sore loser
yeah dude :/
I though this video was going to be.a recap of Levy's game. 🤣🤣
He posted those as well
GothamChess has the correct point. POG champs has professional coaches that instruct them to never ever resign, because you just need to practice and you never know when a 800 will hang a queen on a protected pawn.
23:50 "it could be 2350"
Hikaru: I don't think a 500 would resign because he's blundered his rook for the 5th time today (I know it wasn't actually blundered).
Also Hikaru: No way someone below 2000 would be able to count attackers and defenders.
Miss an easy fork.
Hikaru: It's 2150.
@@aman-qj5sx Really? I am not convinced about the Magnus part.
@@aman-qj5sx I do agree it doesn't prove much though. Just kinda funny.
Same energy as "how much could a banana cost, like 5 dollars?". The man is so much better than the regular people that he doesn't understand ratings at all
29:31 what a Rollercoaster of emotions.
"king goes both ways" 😂😂😂
Any game on elo guesser exists...
Hikaru : I've no idea you guys
Levy is the GOAT Elo guesser
A 1300 vs a 1300 makes the game look like it’s 2000 rated. Hikaru and Levy overestimate the amount of blunders lower rated players make against each other.
Hikaru - " I don't know anyone below 2000 can play Nd2"
Me who's 1500 ...."hey I can"
Guys I think Hikaru hasn't seen a 400 resign, not 100% sure tho, might need more confirmation.
Come now. Hikaru. That Meier game ending was too good for it to be anything else other than a GM game. Only people who actually take chess that seriously will get to that level to be able to practice end games often enough, to get to that level.
People makes mistake (plus idk, maybe Meier trying out something?) so yeah
I thought this was going to be Hikaru reviewing round 4 of the las vegas games, that would have been a spicy title :D
You should do follow-ups where you invite the players to discuss their thought processes. Would be especially good to hear from the 1300s that play really well.
Hikaru don't feel bad if you can't beat Levy at this It's a long time running series on his channel and he's pretty damn good at it.
22:28 Imagine being 1300 and first Hikaru's thought about your game - this game is not 2600
I just want to know why Meier doesn’t like Levy
1st guess:
Hikaru "if Levy goes higher I go higher as well" -> proceeds to not go higher and loses first guess
Idk that Hikaru understands how often below 500s ragequit
So in short, if you want to impress Hikaru, find one or two decent moves in the endgame.
he thinks you need 1500 to put a rook behind a pawn 😭😭😭
would be interesting if the admin secretly adds a Magnus's or Stockfish's game. 😂😂😂
3:00 “your king goes both ways” KEKW
Old videos but depending on the order of the guesses Hikaru could have won a couple of rounds just by guessing one point lower/higher. Maybe that defeats the spirit of the game but it would be the same tactics that are used on The Price Is Right.
Why does Hikaru always say he has no idea, then proceed to give a logical explanation for the rating he guesses???
Well it's the same as him saying "I have misplayed this somehow" and winning the game.
It's same as "I don't care"
Maybe, because he had no idea, he tried to work it out logically.
I have no idea, either. Wait, maybe I have an idea after all.
He also routinely says, "I'm just very bad at chess."
If you cut off the guesses with are more than 200 points away (which makes sense, because the opponents are also just 200 points away from each other) levy wins with 5:0 and Hikaru has one guess in range only. =D
29:36 didn't know this noise was something a human could make
26:46 black made white appear to be a above 1362 player, black created white good moves and white is very creative soo xD, guess thats what B Fischer was refering to, that at lower elo you enjoy more chess games and at higher elo is just memory practice.
If Hikaru was a fruit, he would be an apple.
Huh?
He may not be a fruit but he definitely fruitY
Is there a place for apple juicer?
If magnus was a machine ,he would be apple juicer.
25:50 I feel as though lower-rated players have gotten much better at chess recently. I'm legit only elo 996 and I've played a few full games where neither me nor my opponent blunders
Hikaru fr just blasting Meier damn - Great content though :)
These guys remember whole game playing blind folded yet can't recall who guessed first last game 🤣
Nice starting montage
36:37 lmfao my manz wanted to say 0
This is one of the best series of videos i have ever watched, on chess.
32:00 my guess for Qxb5 is that this is a bullet game and White had 0.4s left on the clock
lol at 25:38! this is an older video so Hikaru probably wont see this comment, but yes there are new players that do listen to what you chess pros say & apply it correctly. Hikaru & Judit & Maurice & Finegold & Krush & Kasparov & Carlsen & Levy teach about chess principles, etc. but the new player just may still have a lower rating just due to not playing too frequently or some other reason.
GMhikaru - "Let me talk to my chat for 30 seconds"
continues to talk for 10 minutes
This is easier for Levy because he just has to think who better than him in chess in these videos. Sometimes, a weak player can make some incredible GM moves for a few moves and then fall apart.
I'm 1500 and still miss free pieces and forks :-(
Hikaru literally shitting on Meyer for 10 mins lmao
When an IM and a GM are screaming “NOOO” and hiding there faces and you’re 725 study more
"i thought the rook b1 idea was very good" the entirety of levy's chat all at once: "ROOK B1! ROOK B1! make a move that makes no sense, that move literally is crazy, why on earth would you play that, at least ca--stle your king what the heck is this move? what were you trying to accomplish, i have no idea!"
me, who plays kiddie countergambit to wayward queen every time:
Wow, that 725 now gives me hope haha
"idiots are people too"-Levy Rozman 2021
If it's 'bizzare' it's probably a low rated game. I'm 1300, we're capable of playing good moves on occasion too.
"I really don't mind being wrong, but I am Really disappointed" And just keeps going on about it :) Common Hikaru, I thought you accused Garry of being way to serious about chess :)
I am confused, did you mean Common Hikaru, or Come on Hikaru.
Common Hikaru just makes absolutely no sense, but Common is a word. Did auto correct mess you up?
@@vulblhotdiessfi Yes, I meant "come on" Sorry :) It wasn't auto-correct (this time) but english is not my first language
@@klaasvanstrien989 oh ok 👍
Hikaru spends more time analyzing how bad these players than he does analyzing a game he involved with.
I beat a 1800 as a 1100 2-0 today so I’d say any elo under 2000 is too unpredictable when you are trying to guess
The fact I got very accurate scores in all of these which is really funny to me
Bro, "Smart or idiot?"
2 seconds later
"Oh nvm idiot, who castles in an open diagonal?"
Love your videos man but can you get your editor to slow down the speed the ads transition? Giving me an anxiety attack 😂
This video Kinda ensures me that Hikaru ,,has no idea what real mistake is,, - according to his comments during his own games (having 99,7% accuracy instead of 99,8% = blundered and played terrible). Levy is less in the clouds so he has more accurate guessing and no overthinking. Grats levy on winning :)
My favorite bromance on the Internet
16:19 "The endgame was played in a much higher level than the opening."
Eh, I can identify with that.
Hikaru slashing gms love it
The Sidekick strikes back by defeating his sensei!
I mean i get that its a joke, but levy's yt channel currently has more subs than hikaru actually
