  • Beethoven Wrote his violin concerto in D, op 61 for his colleague Franz clement in 1806. It is believed that Beethoven finished the solo part so late, that Clement had to sight read part of his performance and to express his annoyance, interrupted the concerto to play a composition of his own without success. That's why this concerto was little performed in the following decades, and was revived by Felix Mendelssohn conducting the orchestra while then 12 years old violinist: Joseph Joachim performed. Ever since, it has been one of the most important works of the violin concerto repertoire and is frequently performed and recorded today.
