    My church used to use eDrums(sounded great, but drummers hated them), but they did not use the in-module sounds, they would run it through addictive drums and could use any samples they wanted.

    I do love a electric drum kit at our church because you can literally change the volume in a split second. I’m our church drummer and I thank you so much for the awesome videos because a lot things you do while playing I have incorporated in my playing style at my church on our drums.

    While they are very effective for sound control. Most drummers will go for a acoustic kit all day long. Our church uses a enclosed drum cage with mics. It gives the sound person tons of control on the volume. Not the most cost efficient way but best quality of sound in my opinion!

    I'm low key mad you cut off her testimony! I love to hear a good miracle haha
    I play a Roland TD30 kit at my church. It does well, I don't like relying on power to play. Other than that it gets the job done. An acoustic kit would be so much better, you can really feel the music. Great content as usual! Thanks!

    Hey Daniel. Would you be willing to do a video on how your FOH techs mixed your e kit and how their approach was different/similar to acoustic kits? It is really hard to find a video on this subject and wondered if you'd be willing to cover it. I appreciate it.

    My church uses a TD50KV and personally own a TD17 and a TD20 with Superior Drummer 3 and GetGoodDrums
    I have been playing on the TD50 since it launched and while the out-of-the-box sounds may not mix well initially before tweaks - I strongly urge church drummers to, instead of quickly dismissing the on board sounds and opting for VSTs, explore stacking different combination of sounds together on the drum module to produce a sound that is uniquely yours.
    You'd be surprise how good they sound in the final mix (broadcast or in-house).

    • @Hardcorepunk87
      @Hardcorepunk87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I stream on twitch, I use a TD-12 (functionally the same as a TD17 I believe) and I have to agree with you. Some EQing and volume mixing/panning makes it sound pretty much just as good as any VSTs, but with no worries of a computer crashing. The main reason why I don't use GGD (even though I own a couple libraries) is because the hi hats just aren't as responsive.

    My church used to use (over 10 years ago) a (?) Roland V-7 drum set or there abouts. Now we have a Yamaha. I like it waaayyyy better except the sound engineer decided to de-tune all the toms so they match the EQ in the room. I came back after being out from arm surgery & when I played them the heads were so loose I nearly put a hole through them! The lesson here is NEVER loosen your drum heads to the point they buckle when played. I recommend using a tuner to set the levels.

    I use a roland electric kit every sunday and it has been awesome! I do recommend uplloading youre own samples but the one i use has a ton of settings such as mic position and pitch. They have it routed as single channels for each tom, kick, snare, cymbals, so I can adjust the level of everything in my ears!

    I'm a drummer here in our church in Macau, China. We've been using an acoustic kit before but they always complain about the noise because the location of our church is an industrial building and had no choice but to change to electric kit. Since then, I'm exploring the kit to its full extent, especially with IEMs.

    I bought my first electric kit this summer....I don't think I'll ever be an e kit guy, but I wanted something a little more realistic than drum pads for home practice and inspiration ( although I don't play it a ton 😂 maybe this winter when I have more time ) ....they're not as bad as I thought ( especially the snare and kick ), but the cymbal pads and hihat pedal can't keep up with me.
    I like thin long nylon tip sticks.....Questloves ( I wish they made nylon tip ), Steve Gadds and the original red Dave Weckl sticks....Pro Mark 727 Japanese oaks....and lately I've been using...Vater 7a nylon tip during church....

    Have used various Roland models over the years as technology evolved - Strictly acoustic these days - At various times I would use an acoustic cymbal set up with them - Never really got what I wanted out of the electronic models but I did use them as well when necessary - When I was behind the Roland's, I would strictly use Ahead Signature Drumsticks - Never used wood sticks - I just preferred the feel, vibration dampening, etc. and they were a solid fit for playing electronic kits... \m/

    Regarding the banding, it probably has something to do with frame rate and shutter speed in relation to lighting. I have a similar issue with lights in our sanctuary. Super annoying to deal with.

    After playing an electric kit at some services in the past, I think one of the hurdles was getting the sound out. It seems as if it would be easy but I think it takes a bit more thought and time as the output is the whole kit not all the separate drums (the mix has to be right at the drum module). Although, the kit I was playing was much older and more basic.

    • @chi-k
      @chi-k 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah newer modules have outputs for each drum. Search up the TD-50!

    • @PropheticSoundProductions
      @PropheticSoundProductions 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the kit. With the Alesis Strike Pro & Special Edition, the module outputs the snare, hi-hat, kick, and puts out L/R crash and L/R Tom signals. More control there.

    • @restymalinao2023
      @restymalinao2023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm using the old TD-11 in my church but I was able to output them separately to our digital mixer (Soundcraft UI24r). It's also possible on any digital mixer that can be connected to DAW via USB cable. It was an easy setup since our mixer is on stage next to my A2E kit. If your mixer is FOH then it might be difficult but still possible (using the powered usb cable extender). The mix sounds so much better, gluer!

    You have that banding due to your shutter speed being too high under those lights.
    Try to change shutter speed to less than 180.
    I’m also a drummer and contemplating switching to electric. Just a big jump lol

    • @DanielBernard
      @DanielBernard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shutter speed 1/50 (double my frame rate of 24fps)

    • @JoshuaCarbaughProductions
      @JoshuaCarbaughProductions 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanielBernard this might sound odd- I’ll try to explain it the easiest. Idk what mode you shoot in, automatic, manual, etc
      I shoot all sorts of Things from weddings to sports, etc.
      Different fps for different feels but my settings are typically 30p 100M. Shooting in 4K 95% of time.
      But anytime I get under a certain type of light, usually fluorescent, I gotta find that happy medium between my ISO, f/stop and shutter. But with me shooting in a higher fps it’s still smooth when it comes to motion, no a lot of motion blur. (Speaking in terms of basketball and baseball)
      Next time you’re noticing that in the church try to bring that shutter down and if it’s getting too “exposed” lower your ISO to get some darker attributes.
      I find it a balancing act but it’s saved my neck a lot with weddings lol.

    • @JoshuaCarbaughProductions
      @JoshuaCarbaughProductions 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanielBernard If we are talking about the same thing I have some examples I’ll DM you on IG.
      I’m referring to the banding lines that appear horizontally across the screen under certain lights when I’m recording.
