I love this idea of using old toys, I used an old gi joe action force boat to look like a crashed sci-fi ship that could be added to a table when i was about 16....I'm now 41 and wish I still had all my old toys 🤣
During the building phase, I honestly thought this piece looked like crap. There were too many different textures, but when you black bombed it... WOW!!! And the industrial green paint was a stroke of genius.
It wasn't just the wild colors (although they were quite garish), it was all the different materials you used to make up the floors and such not. I had to go back and re-watch the first vud to see how it all came together.
The video transports us to a dystopian future where the uncertainty of survival immerses the viewer in an immersive experience accentuated by the chosen soundtrack. Good job.
Just genius!... the strength of your concepts with each of these successive pieces is incredible, there are so many pictures online where you can see someone has used a pipe elbow or a CD container or a coffee cup lid etc but your build and painting techniques really disguise the materials you use and make the finished piece so believable and authentic!... Inspired man.. truly inspired 👍👍👍
Thank you! I really try to hide the pieces. The human eye is great at seeing familiar patterns so i try to stay away from shapes that are too recognizable or find a way to alter and hide them.
That last shot was so dope - would love to see a full 'table' showcase with all your pieces, or even a bat rep :) Keep up the fantastic work mate - it's super inspiring!
If you want to improve the quality of your home made washes, add a drop of Jet Dry, the stuff you put in your dishwasher to keep your dishware from streaking. It's super cheap, can usually be found at the dollar store, and acts as a flow aid. I use it in all of mine and it does make a nice difference.
Beautiful work! It looks very realistic and the splash of green and the graffiti really bring it to life. I am looking forward to more of your tutorials as I think your work is incredible.
I’ve got to be honest, this is amazing, I just watched another channel where the guy (with a much larger channel) struggled to build something unbelievably basic, and basically showed the hardest way possible to build something fairly easy, not really helping the viewers, it was lazy. then I watch this, and the 1st segment, and I’m just blown away by how good this came out, you basically show how with imagination and some random parts you can take all sorts of things and make something frigging epic. Really nice job man, seriously
I’m not sure exactly who you are talking about, but generally speaking I think some of the larger channels commit to posting at regular intervals for algorithmic purposes and channel growth. I admire this consistency immensely, but also sympathize with them because for me, that would likely cause issues with burnout and quality control. I also struggle to do certain things that may seem simple to others at times. Not every video is going to be a home run, this is true of every content creator on TH-cam! I like to judge people by their best work, and the big channels are big for a reason...because they have put out tons of awesome content over the years. I appreciate your comment though and am really glad you have been enjoying my videos!
I don't know why youtube recomened your work to me since I don't know anything about Warhammer but you skill and craftsmanship rivals anything I've seen in the sculpture department at my university. Great work, keep it up man you are truly talented and thanks for sharing it with us.
I think we all have much to learn from you. Gonna give your standard metal approach a try this weekend, love it. Question - exactly what modular toy plates do you use for your catwalks?
Wyloch's Armory its called roominate. I think its kindof a dollhouse building toy aimed at little girls. I found a big box of the pieces at the thrift store
Been watching these videos in this series going back to the start and up to now, and getting better and better. Definitely agree with others about opening up eyes to using everyday household items and reusing things like old toys to make interesting shapes and constructs.
That chipping effect... genius. Will have to steal for my own projects. It honestly does look like legit natural paint chipping off. Got a cement porch that looks like that building
Fantastic centerpiece for your table. Looks great with catwalks going off in all directions to other pieces. Also, you gotta get yourself a can of burnt sienna spray paint. That's a lot to do with a brush! Cheers Mr. Eric!
Shane Flickinger the cheap paint i use is pretty thick with a rubbery sort of medium. This allows me to do some impasto-like texture and fill minor gaps if needed with the paint. The hard part about these builds are choices -each decision uses mental energy. Painting everything one colour is basically done on autopilot while watching tv with my wife or something, so it uses almost zero mental energy. On the flip side, I would need to take a rattlecan outside to spray. Long story short, I’m not likely to switch over in the near future! I appreciate the thought though.
I enjoy your videos. A suggestion if I may. Regarding your wash, it may flow better if you add a surfactant, a chemical which reduces surface tension of water, you can buy these, but a drop or two of dish washing up liquid will do the trick. It improves flow and reduces wash clumping and collecting on flat surfaces Regards.
Adrian S ahh yes, surfactant is one of the cool words this hobby has taught me! i think i did add a drop of dish soap I just forgot to mention it. Anyways, I’m gonna cook up a better batch of wash to have on hand using some acrylic medium and stuff. Thanks Adrian!
Dear Eric. I fell into the miniature painting hobby recently and found your channel. Because of you, I am now awaiting the arrival of Necromunda Underhive( a game I know very little about), a squad of Pallatine Enforce+cards(~$100🤐) and Im now spending about 15% of my awake time looking for junk to turn into terrain. Thanks for the inspiration.
You might want to try using a cheap soft bristle toothbrush to remove the masking fluid. And to bend those thin plastic tubes without flames and hazardous fumes, thread a thin but strong wire through it and bend it with that. Love the build!
I see you upgraded your mic, nice. I love the concept of upcycling with trash. Hopefully one day you'll get a chance to work with larger scale pieces, it would be awesome to see something like this larger scale at an art gallery or museum!
Just discovered this channel and you are quickly becoming my favorite hobby terrain maker! Your eye for shapes and breaking up bland areas is immaculate, and seeing the progress on this build was incredibly inspiring! Have you ever considered doing a video on sourcing all these crazy bits? I'm sure it is partially an acquired skill browsing dollar stores and thrift shops, but a video on looking for certain shapes and items would be awesome I think. Keep up the great work! This was the fastest subscribe in a while and I've already shown my other wargaming friends this channel. Cheers 👍
Glad you liked the extra shots. I will have a video coming soon that is only shots like those with no tutorial element and I am curious to see how it is received by the audience.
This is the type of video I was looking for as I am currently working on a similar build. I was trying to find a good video with the paint scheme of a old rustic metal building.
You nailed it when it came to the end of the Vid. I love to paint Miniatures... but I don't play the games. Now you have given me a good reason to build something similar, and I do not have to worry about "Playability" of the terrain since it is for display only.
So detailed and amazing! I've been really wanting to play with styrene bits and bobs for a while now. Just found your channel and some of the stuff I've seen so far is really interesting and unique. Great job!
This one is another absolute homerun! I have to admit I was most excited for the build video last week, expecting the paint portion to be less exciting, but it was not the case at all! The masking fluid and paint job turned out amazing, and you really kicked it into high gear when you showed the screen glow effect, and the free-hand graffiti was excellent! Some ideas for patron content, set up a gallery or Pinterest of the reference photos you use, maybe a video on how to do the layered graffiti on a miniature scale, or pictures of the specific paints you use, I'd especially like to know that gray-green one! Oh and the new mic sounds great! You are improving so quickly, you'll be at 50k subs in no time.
saucercrabzero those are great ideas! Thank you. Im glad i made the choice to do a two part video for this project, there would have been too many cuts for just one video, or a really long video which I am trying to avoid

You read my mind.
Macgyver of terrain! I like that hahahaha
