one of my favorite bits in Cup Of Roasted Coffee is how _visibly_ Emma displays her apathy. you can see it in the dance and hear it in the singing, such as the enthusiatic "Oi oi oi.."
The fact that she still does all of the choreography technically perfectly while being so obviously unhappy about it is hilarious.

All these "okays"... you know Ashley, I think that since you're a vocal coach, you're getting the opposite of the apotheosis. You're getting Paul-ified.

In regard to Paul's being uncomfortable/character development, one cute subtle detail I have seen people point out is that he's generally less afraid when he's not alone, and whenever a musical number starts with other people around he focuses more on protecting them. You see it a little bit here with Emma here, but it's more noticeable going forward. It's very sweet. Or maybe he's just less afraid of being killed by zombies than he is of a regular musical number and a mildly uncomfortable social situation, which is fair enough really

i'm pretty sure lauren lopez, who plays emma, has said in an interview that acting absolutely done about the coffee song is harder than doing it enthusiastically. it's really the kind of song that puts a smile on your face despite the dark implications.
also, this is one of my favorite songs from this musical! i'm so weak to harmonies, it just does things to my ears. and you really should buckle up for the plot to pick up lmao from the three hatchetfield musicals guy who didn't like musicals have really good twists.

I think Jeff was playing with the two- and three-part harmonies here, shifting back and forth between them. Because there are three singers, you can have three parts to the harmony, but two of them are being controlled and seem to share a voice, with Emma being the odd one out, so you can do two-part harmonies instead. Then, in the second half where Emma isn’t participating, they go with two-part harmony until the poisoned men start singing, which brings them back to three-part harmonies.
It’s quite well done!👍

in the behind the scenes someone said that this scene with Lauren was her best acting because "she just loves dancing" XD
She choreographed the entire show. (Also I believe the subsequent 2.)

Yay, more TGWDLM! Thanks. As a Jon Matteson stan, one of the big things I love about this musical is the slow unveiling of his true power level as a performer... dude was such a meme here ~ and we still got a ways to go. 😁 I'm glad your having fun with this show.

Personally, I’m a Mariah Rose Faith fan, but they performed well together here.
The "how do ya how do ya how do ya do" section gives me goosebumps everytime, such a cool way to show the apotheosis, the chorus coming in and making the verse literally more powerful to signify it. Amazing drama!
But the way! In the next musical, there’s a song called literal monster, it’s the second song, it’s split in two with a talking part in the middle but it’s not separate songs so don’t separate the video

I love the way that this sequence hits that things are getting scary and serious. Up until now it's been a bunch of people randomly bursting into song, but now they've started poisoning people and those people have also started singing. Things are ramping up!

I've seen this musical too much, lol. With your Black Friday series, I was constantly looking up which song was next. With this one, I know which songs are next and I'm SUPER EXCITED about it. I love this musical!
Absolutely love this song and the part between "what do you want Paul" and "cup of roasted coffee" has a few of my favourite scenes in it.

You just know this song must have been difficult to perform for Lauren, as obviously she's going to be enjoying it, but she had to act super unenthusiastic about it, and she did so well!

As a barista, I vibe with Emma/Lauren's char so much lol. Also has anyone sent u a link to the version of this song where a cast member got sick so the director Nick Lang had to step in for one of the girls (maybe for lauren?) Its a very funny and classic starkid meme.
