The tears stream down my face because of what this lady sings, how she sings, her testimony and her faith in the Messiah pouring forth from her pure heart. He is the Son of Mary and our Lord, our Savior, our Redeemer, our God to whom we owe everything Because of Him and His Eternal and Everlasting Sacrifice on the Cross for us, we can go home back to our Father in Heaven at the conclusion of this life. We can repent and be forgiven and have those sins washed away because He shed His Precious Blood. He is the Focus of my life and that Focus brings me a deep sense of quiet joy which I seek to share everytime I get the opporunity. When people embrace Yeshua Isnazaret as their personal Savior, there is a bright light of hope that shines from their countenances and you can see it. And that makes you and them happy. The Savior taught us this: "I have come unto into the world that men might have JOY and have that more abundantly". And that is one of the fruits of embracing the Gospel of Jesus Christ..

Thank you for sharing! I went through about 20 versions of this song on U tube. This is the BEST. Beautiful voice and backgroud choir, excellent instumentation, good tempo, and ALL 3 verses! So many leave out the 2nd verse which reflects the difficult life Jesus will lead, and his suffering and death. I think people don't want to think about that, but the story of Jesus is certainly incomplete without it.

Thank you SO much for uploading this! I found this while searching for songs to sing in a Christmas concert. This is not a very commonly known Christmas song here in Finland, but will be more so after I sing it. :P I mean, 'cause after hearing this amazing rendition by always amazing Sissel, I have no choice but to choose this song. Thank you for singing the FULL lyrics (of all three verses). Every other youtube video of this I see either skips v.2 ("Why lies he in such mean estate...") OR ends every verse with the same "chorus" as the first ("This, this is Christ the King..."). Thus all of them miss the powerful ending of v.2: "Nails, spear, shall pierce him through; the cross be born for me, for you: hail, hail, the Word made flesh, the babe, the son of Mary."

I know, I also have The Irish Rovers version. Nice version, but v.2 they start with the first 2 lines, but then not the Nails, spear, instead the same chorus from v.1,
If people acknowledge that nails and cross is borne for them they will have to acknowledge Jesus is the Christ, Saviour of the world and they are in sin needing salvation. No one can say Jesus is the Christ unless by the Spirit of Christ who can only come when sinners repent and accept the salvation offered by Jesus.
A Google search for videos using "What child is this" "nails spear" finds quite a few that include those four uncomfortable lines. There may be others that it doesn't find because they don't have the lyrics written down.
