Most of the people I play with actually don't want that as it would make the sport less accessible. WFTDA also doesn't seem to eager to head down that path. I get the sentiment and I would also really love to see it viewed around the world by millions, but I don't know if that's the right path. I mean nobody watches football at the olympics and it's still the biggest sport around the world basically.
what's happening: if you have a star on your helmet you have to get through and pass people. passing people gets you points. if you don't have a star you have to help your star get through while stopping the other team's star from getting through. except for a thousand other ridiculous rules it's super simple :)
Roller Derby is the most under-rated sport of all time, most of these athletes in this sport have trained for stamina and skaters muscle memory so intensely that even when they can no longer feel their legs, they are still working perfectly.
LMAO at these comments. This is flat track roller derby and (shocker) it does exist. Bank track roller derby also exists. Surprise, both can exist at the same time! This footage, however, looks like it's from 1995 lol
Maria Miller she exited the track incorrectly. You are supposed to exit the track at a 90 degree angle from where you got the penalty, but Sarah kept skating around the curve before exiting the track
The person with the star goes through the others from the opposite team. they get points for each person from opposite team. Auctioncollecter, not a disaster, you have just literally never seen the sport. any sport would look like disaster if you'd never watched it before. I play derby, and let me tell you, it's ORGANIZED disaster. Danielle mchenry, to answer your question, if you raced ahead trying to get the jammer you would get a no pack and a player from your team would get a penalty. A no pack is when you are more than ten feet away from the other team. educate yourselves before you evaluate the sport. You just got schooled by a thirteen year old.
Just waiting for the day roller derby gets to the Olympics...

@@janakrautgartner5509 but football is alrdy popular without Olympics. With Olympics it will bring more exposure to this sport.

Thank you, I see so many people complaining about “oh this is dumb I don’t understand”

My Australian girls did so well!
Yes, Roller Derby isn’t what it’s like in the movies or t.v. But if you learn about the real sport, it’s actually incredibly fun!
33:53 me and Shelia get a close up.
Does anyone know what Sara Chambers got the misconduct call for in the 3rd jam in the second half?

USA 💙
My year 7 teacher did this sport
Nothing on 70s rollerderby
70s derby was extremely staged so they could afford to be more ridiculous. I’ve still seen a couple fights on banked track derby though haha
This is not Roller Derby! Play old school or don't waste your time.

USA!!!!
WTF is this? It looks like Rugby on roller skates, with no ball, where's the going in circles?
my thought exactly. Why is the pack standing there waiting for the jammer.
Jammers have to go through the pack to get points each blocker is worth a point
I was thinking the same thing. They took a classic sport & turned it into a disaster.
@@Auctioncollector rollerderby is a classic sport itself from the 50s. If you guys do not know shit, do not Judge!

What the hek is this???????? I've never seen this before. This ain't roller derby
It’s still the same as the one on the elevated track
people that have only ever watched roller derby stereotypes on tv cannot say what is and isn't roller derby
this is NOT roller derby. this is a side show.
It is roller derby. It plays by the same “rules” that you see on tv.
