Making a SIMPLE Hand Saw MITRE GUIDE | Woodworking Jig

- In this video I make a mitre cutting guide for my Japanese pull saw. I needed some sort of jig/guide to aid in cutting small mitres for smaller projects as cutting material this small on a mitre saw would be unsafe, so I decided to spend a little time making a simple jig from some scrap wood I had laying around in my lumber cart. I will look to improve this jig/guide in the future so keep an eye out for a mark 2 edition. But for now this quick and dirty style mark 1 version will definitely help me cut accurately by hand!

after i bought my first draw-saw,ive never looked back! they are so good to use! and accurate,and takes very little material. i need this thing youre making and it looks good. i will probably reinforce mine with 90 degrees aluminium bars,tho.

Same! I had a plastic one a long time ago and I just did not like it. Glad I decided to make this one, although simple it's much better than my plastic one. I will be looking to improve the jig and make a mark 2... a fancy one sort of speak with more features :D. ps. Thanks for watching! :D

Whoa!!! Get rid of the loud music while you are talking. You information is VERY GOOD. Seriously. I have done woodworking for probably twice the time you have been alive and I STILL LEARN A LOT FROM YOU. So my only suggestion is to turn the music off after you get started talking so NOTHING competes with what you are saying. There was even an electric “buzz” going on with the added music while you were speaking. And, I asked myself, “Doesn’t this girl know that she is more than interesting enough?” Be encouraged. Turn the music off.

Does this wooden jig last longer than the plastic ones from DIY stores?
I guess it’s hard to say as it depends how well it’s made and what wood is used. But I find this jig works much better that for sure. There is less movement within the saw blade gap. Which in turn gave me better results, I’ve not need to replace it to date 06/2020. I plan to make an upgraded version in the near future with more features and replaceable parts for long time use. Definitely keep an eye out for that video too. 🙌🏻

08:30 i thought you were going to use mitre saw for jig cuts, you get extra Bragging Rights for cutting perfect mitre guides by hand that didn't drift other side.

it's a bit useless to make this jig for hand saws WHEN YOU HAVE TO USE A POWER SAW TO MAKE IT
Thanks for the feedback. In this instance the jig was made to allow me to safely and quickly cut very small pieces when I wouldn’t feel comfortable cutting them on a powered saw. But the jig can easily be made with just hand tools if you don’t have access to power tools or wish to do so with hand tools only 👍🏻 rip cut saw for the plywood panel, cross cut saw for the stop block and the fence. Hand plane to square up any pieces that aren’t flat and 90 degrees.👍🏻 thanks for watching and checking out the video! ✌🏻
There is absolutely no point to these “how to” videos the moment you pull out the large, expensive, electric table saws and routers etc…
