    Thank the Gods for your video. I just moved into a new home and the trees have been abused! I know enough not to create big problems for myself but was lost. I am glad there is hope for restoring some of the plants here.

    We bought a house with Weigela that had obviously been sheared for years to keep a round form under windows.. They have water sprouts out the top like crazy, only green on the very outside all around, and dead looking interior. Can I thin them and prune selectively to get them back to a more open form? There are 8 all across the length of the house or I would just pull them out and start over. Thoughts?

    Very informative!!!! Wish I had found this BEFORE I completely incorrectly pruned my privet bushes. Now the bottom of the canes are bare and nice and full at the top with hydras. :( so- now that it's May..... is there anything I can do now? Or do I "sit on my hands and wait"? When am I able to cut some canes to the ground and thin some of the hydras?

    From 15:12- 16:04 has helped me out. It's what I'm dealing with on 5 autumn blaze maples ;(
